Hey Sage. Your videos helped me get from running 10 minute miles down to averaging just over 7 minutes over the past couple years. I just started your BQ Training Plan to push myself to the next level! I've never really tracked my progress using fitness trackers before, though. Can you make a video of utilizing fitness trackers for maximizing training progress? Thanks for all the amazing video and grats on the UTMB finish!

Daniel Rafuls Sage uploads all his training to the Strava training app. It's definitely the best way to go for tracking both your training and your progress!

+Daniel That is a good request for a training talk. There are websites such as Strava and Garmin Connect that help you to use fitness trackers or GPS watches with HRM to analyze your running. They often charge you a fee for this extra website features. With Garmin, I had a problem actually getting the data from the watch because I was not able to connect it to my computer since they didn't support the OS which is very disappointing that they try to force you to spend hundreds of dollars on a new OS from the ripoff Microsoft.

Just ran my 2nd marathon. Hired a coach this time and ran 2:59. Would love to get a plan from you to better that time for Boston 2018! Saw the Training Peaks article where they analyzed your pacing for Boston. They gave you an almost perfect score!

Great summary sage. I qualified for the first time this year and would love a video on training for Boston.

This is almost as intricate as when football teams do game prep; not quite, but still incredibly detailed. I love it!

Disclaimer: I've never run the full course at Boston, but ran the first 15.5 of the course in ~1992. Anyone who says Boston is an "easy" course because it's downhill from start to finish knows nothing about the Boston course. It is **the way the course is set up** that will mess you up........the first 15.5 miles are downhill.....they will kills your quads with the pounding, and your quads are shot right before you need them---to run the series of hills from 17 miles to 21.7 miles. When I did that first 15.5 miles in the early 90's, my quads were at least as badly beat up as when I ran the full course at any of my NYC Marathons or my single Philadelphia Marathon.....and I was in decent shape. Then after the Newton Hills, you've got ~5 miles or so to do whatever you can. Look at the winning times of the last 12-15 years--other than the couple of (seriously) wind-assisted years, the times that Bill Rodgers/Greg Meyer/Alberto Salazar ran all those years ago are still win-quality times.....now compare that to London or Berlin. Is Boston a downhill course, sure---but it is a TOUGH course where for 90% of the field, the downhill nature does not help.

This is one of the best Marathon analyses I have seen so far. Thank you for these pro insights, Sage.

Sage, Love the videos and the inspiration you provide, thank you a ton. You've turned me from a die hard fan of Asics, to a proud Hoka runner. I hope to one day revisit this talk as I plan out my Boston Marathon race day. However, of course I need to qualify first, which I finally feel I'm in the position to attempt following my half next week which I have trained for to be sub 90 minutes. I would love it if you could do a training talk on how to select a Boston qualifier course, perhaps discussing which courses may be faster/slower based on terrain, weather, individual capability, and even time of year.

The marathon is not easy. 1st full was out and back in November then at turnaround, massive headwind from cold front made it unbearably cold. Frostbitten knee caps etc.. but worth then finishers medal. 2nd Full, good old Pittsburgh 2016 started out flat with some hills then after crossing one bridge heading east was the HILLS they call it. 7miles going up hill to mile 20. Switch back, turns and undulating pavement. Mile 20 to 22 was all downhill where quads were on fire🔥🔥. Last 4 mile was pretty flat as I passed many whom hit the wall were on fumes. Last 1/4 mi was flat straight away BUT being a tough course I came out with PR of 10min from 1st full.🏁🏃🏻🌬😎. But more importantly, I ran Pittsburgh in memory of 2 teammates in my running clan I was close too passes away in 2015. 💗🏃🏻💗🏃🏻. A "Runner Of Steel" is their motto to all whom finished the half or full marathons. Of the 21yrs running, I can say I love Every Mile so far and have met so many people along the way. Plus, I been running for a Team I joined back in 2011 after leaving high school in 2003. Like the old saying "The person that finishes a Marathon, is NEVER the same person at the start." It's with you the rest of your life. As long as I listen to my body and still enjoy running, then it can be 40-50+yrs career.

Good question. If he wants to qualify for the Olympics like Tim Tollefson did twice according to Sage, then he needs to focus on Olympic marathon qualifying training. He expected to do as well as him in UTMB, but Sage, qualify 2 times for the Olympic marathon first...then compare your UTMB to Tim Tollefson... I'm just saying that if you want to qualify, you should start training now...

Sage, I have a question. Do cross training miles (cycling) count as your mileage for the week? If I run 30 miles and ride 10 miles, can I assume that I put in 40 miles that week? Thanks

How to complete 1600 m race in minimum time?
@tuesdaysrunner4038
@tuesdaysrunner4038 7 лет назад
+Nitesh That is a good question. If you are asking Sage to make a training talk on that then you should. But note that he has said previously that he wasn't that fast at that distance though he may know how to train for it...

6000+ views in one day? That is impressive. Read a comment on one of his video's about how he sucks...as a guitar player. No, don't agree with that. Sage's guitar playing is why Sandi has stayed with him... Look at 0:24 there are 3 of him! Was he one of triplets??? At 2:14 Sage said he "laid an egg" at Boston Marathon. Did Sandi get it on video? That I'd like to see. Did he get chicken gene injections to be able to lay an egg??? Boston sounds like a coordination nightmare to go to and try to race...plus the extreme number of runners that go to Boston...

can we talk about the MICRO-LESIONS that are formed on the heart valves from running so hard that they CALCIFY and eventually KILL runners who dont know when to MODERATE their training? Thanks... wink :)
