Great tutorial. Repetition is the key to retention. Every time I thought you repeated yourself too many times I realized I caught something I had missed the first 10 times you said it 😂 Neil Armitage’s videos are the goat on saddle stitching, but this is probably the best video I’ve seen on it since. Thanks for your hard work and attention to detail.
It wasn't good? Absolutely fantastic explanation plus the holeses added a fun element to it as well. A million thanks for sharing your knowledge sir!!! 🤩
Dude, I've gotta say I'm impressed with your tutorials, Good job man. Nigel is a badass, and I love the way his "dogs" wet his edges to burnish. You've gotta hear it. He says he's going to get the dogs to lick the edge and you can totally tell he licks it himself and says "I'll let you work that out" funny as heck!!
This is great info. I have to tell myself which stitch goes where and what direction for the first two stitches and test it out for the first few stitches every time I start stitching just to make sure I do it right. It feels like your logic is more consistent and easier to understand. However, is there a way for the stitch on both sides to look flat? or should I say stitch two bad sides?
Hey Jonathan. Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you can understand my logic. 👊🏼. As far as the flat look, I think you have to use a different type of punch. Like holes or flat and not the angled. I don’t have any experience with that though. Hope this helps.
Just purchased your patterns and I’m going to dive right into this. Absolute newb here but want to make myself a nice radio strap/holster for work. Working out my list of tools to buy over here. Now when I go to set these holes for hand stitching… when you get to the curved ends do you use a different stitching iron??
That was easy to understand - Thank you. How long would you make the thread on an average length belt. It can be some quiet long threads, if I do it in one go.
Thanks. It’s 3-4 times the length plus another 2-3 feet. So a 36 inch belt would be around 50 inches total length. Take that * 3=150 inches. Then *2 for the other run. So 300 inches plus another 2-3 feet. So approximately 350 inches. 👌🏼
Thank you so much for this great video, however, it doesn't seem to work on smaller spacings. I use 2.7mm irons and 0.45mm linen thread (M40 Meisi Superfine) on a 3mm thick buttero leather. After doing a few stitches I could obverse that the thread just won't go from the very bottom to the very top of the next hole. Sometimes it just sticks halfway. Is there maybe something I need to consider if I stitch on smaller spacings - in this case 2.7mm? I've watched many great videos by great instructors but I still could not find a solution for my problem. You're my last hope!
🧐🤔. I don’t have much experience with smaller sizes like that. I do know that there’s a direct relationship between 3 aspects that alter the “look”. Thickness of the thread-thickness of the leather-spacing of the holes. I think you have to find the right fit. Hope this helps.👌🏼
Do you ever use diamond chisels? I love them, but I have no idea if I am technically stitching correctly with them. I do get lots of compliments on my stitching, though.
Is there a Mallot that you recommend for using with the KS Blade Stitching Iron? I am new to leather and am trying to go through 10oz. of veg tan for making sandals. I looked at the KS Blade Stitching Irons after watching your video; is there a KS Blade Stitching Iron that you would recommend to me? They have some many options, which is amazing, for a newbie like me, I am absolutely clueless as to what I need. I will be handstitching :) Thank you!
No problem. I use that cheaper poly mallet just fine. I’m also using the KS blade 5.4 mm which yields 5 stitched per inch. That pairs nice with .8 mm thread. Hope this helps
@@SofieldLeather Thank you! I went on KS Blade website to purchase the Stitching Iron that you had suggested. It doesn't look like KS Blade is currently shipping to the U.S. is there another brand that you could recommend? Thank you
Oh snap. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Can’t believe I forgot this. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I’ll have to make another video. But that armitage leather video should cover this part. Just do 1 or 2 back stitches and a half stitch. The half stitch allows you to pick the side you want clean. Then snip off and burn.
dude. NO to the gloves bro. that is just so unecessary and really wasteful as well! if you are going to use any sort of gloves, they should be stitching gloves or at the very least some sort of lightweight leather gloves.
