Hi Drake. Just Strted Watching your Videos. Love how you take Pride in your work. I Own a Yacht Restoration Company in FL.. What might save you time and Paper. Is, in the Begging of the Job. We Prep the Teak decks by using a New 1.5 inch Chisel with a 45 angle on one end,, to actually shave the Caulking down first. It usually cuts it like butter. Then when you start Sanding Process, you are already sanding Flush and don't have to worry about sanding through Caulking First. Love your Channel

Sup drake hey I use a razor blade to level the caulk before sanding. Curl the corners so they don't snag, keep it at a low level and the excess caulk comes off quick and easy. Knocks down on your sanding. I second the forced rotation da - I like festool for this. Nice vid bro.

Another solid video learned a lot once again. I was wondering after watching your non skid buff video if that’s something you include in a wash and wax package or an up charge. Good cheaper alternative to the Mirka system is a Bosch GET65-5n or -6n with a shop vac and sanding mesh. Great dust collection and having the forced rotation with dust collection is hard to find. I own 3 of them in my boat repair shop. You did a good job explaining this though. I love watching your videos bro. I remove the caulk and recaulk if the customer is going to pay for it, otherwise it's best imo to use a 2 part teak cleaner as it really does a good job. Totalboat has a decent 2 part cleaner. Never fall for 1 part teak cleaner.

@@martybernal8977 I work at a marina and sand/oil teak often. I always double tape around the edges of the teak to prevent nicking the gelcoat. Those tighter areas that you can’t get with a sander will require hand sanding as best as you can. I just finished a job, I am not too proud of. All the exterior teak on a 35 ft sailboat. I was to sand and coat all surfaces with six coats of Sikens Cetol. But the boat is on the water in a river. The wind blew 18 to 22 mph almost every day, and every night birds pooped all over the newly coated surfaces. Most of the deck hardware had to be taped off rather than removed (stanchions, cleats, winches etc...) and the teak was heavily grooved. So, I didn't sand enough as it would have made for 1/4" raised areas under each piece of metal. Now I wish I had sanded the he'll out of it anyway.

1)always wear a respirator when doing teak sanding not a dust mask that shit will ruin your lungs.2)always wear knee pads unless you want to end up half crippled like I am in your old age.3)take a single edge razor blade put your finger in the middle and bend upward a little bit and tape off your index finger and you will knock down your raised caulk like butter.I have done an 85 ft boat -dive platform -and bow deck in 4hours.always finish with 100 grit it will remove all scratches and be slick.anything above that grit could result in liability because it will become real slick.and when I am done I use Teak plus / Teak minus teak cleaner it will not damage your deck at all do use Snappy Teak part 1 or 2 it is the worse product on the market because it eats all of soft wood out and then your sanding again.use Seal Once for a sealer works great is about $70 dollars a gallon compared to Dy-tec at $200 a gallon .And Semco teak sealer does not last that long in the sunlight and you have got to use acid to remove again damage if your wood.you can buy the products on Amazon .after 45 years in the private yacht world you get it right.Tight Lines Capt Larry

Sanding the teak scares the heck out of me. I still don’t feel comfortable doing it.

Let me explain the difference between a boat and a yacht. On a boat, you sand and finish the teak, on a yacht your write the check for the guy who does that. In either case they don't have 'floors', they are called 'decks'.
