You rock. I’m dealing with the same thing. You don’t need the background music. No one, ever, says, man I wish that how-to video had music in it. Never happened. As a creator, you want it to be more attractive in every aspect. As a sound engineer, who is literally addicted to music, I’ll be the first to tell you how golden silence can be. Not so much silence itself, just less distraction from your words and even the content when you aren’t speaking
Great! If that one helped this one might as well updated version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PnJrd5eadD4.html. Thanks for the comment!
@@kylet3390 i mean i did not apllied clear coat yet, cause i used spray gun first time ever and did a mistake by over spraying, but it does looks decent, so i think i can use this method that's in this video?
lol! This happened to me yesterday! First time to paint a car and boy it was looking great and I screwed up! It was so hot here in Dallas a river of sweat poured out of my paint suit all over my fresh coat of clear coat. I was 😡😡😡😡
Hello . What happens if the base has orange peel texture and clear has put on it? Someone painted my car and it has orange peel. I dont know if the base also has orange peel.
I painted the drivers door on my Mercedes SLK yesterday and the result was disappointing. However, it's mainly just because the clear coat I used was so underwhelming and lacking in shine. Having seen what you achieved with the two stage wet sand and then good polish, I am 100% confident I can get a much better result, when I re-address the job tomorrow. Thanks so much!
If I paint my car outside where there's plenty of debris, should I wet sand the base coats as well or just apply all the coats and 2 clear coats and sand that?
I wouldn't just wet sand the basecoat. I would inspect the base coat between coats if you see a spec of dust let it dry and then dry sand the dust out with 600 and apply another coat of base then clear when it's covered and clean. Hope this helps appreciate the comment and support!
@@GarageNoise thank you so much for the reply, I was thinking that if I respray the base after sanding, I'll just get the same result with dust specs and who knows what else. Can I just do two layers of base and sand it with 1500 to 3000 to get rid of the contaminants and just spray clear coat over a sanded 3000 base? I'll have to be very creative since I am looking to paint it white and I'm thinking of fixing the defects by polishing alot. Thank you so much for the reply, awesome video.
You want you base as sooth as possible but you can overcome that when you apply clear ,you might have to cut and buff the clear but you can smooth it out. Appreciate the comment and support!
How many coats of clear coat did you apply before the sanding & polishing? Superb job & instructions…thanks for letting me know how to save a paint job that I thought may have needed repainting…you saved me lots of money my & hours!! Thank you!
Gd man just did a bumper and the wind appeared from no where as soon as I mixed clear lol.. resulting in this same finish was pretty imbarrased. Will be doing exactly this to hopefully save it :) it's all about learning and improving.. thanks dude just earnt a new sub.
Thanks for the info and taking the time to put it here. I'm 85 yr. old and haven't painted a car in 35 years. Got a truck that needs some cosmetic work, so been watching u-tube to learn the changes that have been developed---- and WOW!!! 3000 grit paper!!! I once used 600 and thought it cut about as good as a piece of "waxed paper"
You did a real good job on now that what you after I watched your video I ain't nobody working 25-30 years how long by work working in the backyard plus out of the drywall hanger and finisher for 35 years anybody can do that can you paint it
Wow great job thanks for sharing. Cause most f us have these problems but no one posts it. Will this same technique work with ingle stage paint as well with same instructions? thanks
Brilliant video once again, thank you! And you are so correct, no other painting RU-vidr would be as honest about mistakes like you are. That makes you so much better in my eyes.
Great video. I'm surprised you started with 1500 grit over 1200 or a 1000. Is that because it was still soft? I'm doing my first paint job with POR15 2k Urethane... I got the temp too hot on the first coat and it was drying too fast without leveling out. It's bit worse than yours but I'm feeling confident about fixing it with an aggressive cut and buff.
Thanks a lot . This helps! Planning to do the same this weekend. Just a question... My car door paint is a bit dark from the stock paint (30 percentage darker) . Can I make it dull by using sand paper (1500 grid)? Will this work ? Appreciate your expertise feedback. Thanks.
Unfortunately no , color sanding or wet sanding will not change the color of the paint. The way to fix this would be to blend into the adjacent panels with color and clear those panels. Thanks for comment!
@@GarageNoise thank you. I have an 8 gallon compressor i think that thing is not able to deliver enough pressure to the gun . I just used the Euro pro HE from Astro 1.3 nozzle tip.
I need your help! I painted my car matt black and the left side is perfect but on the right the door looks brighter that the rear panel but matches perfect with the front
Ok, some matte paint has different levels of sheen depending on how you mix it. Meaning the more catalyst you add the glossier the sheen. What brand paint did you use? The nice thing with matte black its verry easy to re shoot an side or panel.is there anything you did differently from side to side?
I just had some panels come out like that. I was using high solid clear and a new gun I was trying instead of my trusty W400(which I know how to set up for clear and it doesn't let me down). Bur the dust specs...always. no matter how much I clean, tack, wet floor.... But bad orange peel, texture, bleah! That does not make me happy! I ended up sanding the panels and flow coating with the W400. Still gotta denib. Still gonna buff. But what a difference going back to my normal gun. I need to stick with what works. This is a good video, putting a problem filled job out there. Things happen and this shows it can happen to anyone and its not the end of the world👍
So if I shot a rough base coat, is it better to go ahead & shoot clear over that & then use your method. Or can I use your method on a base coat as well? God Bless you even if you don't answer, I have a ton of appreciation for You & all the GN Educational Videos. Thank You!
@@GarageNoise Your generosity & kindness will not go unpaid Chris. Thank's for being so cool & of course, thanks for your willingness to share the secrets of your very difficult craft. Even after studying for weeks it's so easy to totally blow it. I've been spraying houses my whole life & I still got a damn orange peel on my truck base coat....frustrating but fixable, thanks to you.
I wish my paint job did look that good. I had tape marks, the paint was too dark and you still see little putty marks. I gave myself a D-. I will not give up. I will try again today.
Yeah don't give up! Preperation is the key. I have some other videos that might help you on your next attempt. Feel free to message me if have questions.
Did your paint have a metal flake to it? You're right the reflection did make it kind of hard to see the paint it came out so shiny and smooth. And if you mentioned the type of paint job you did in the video, I apologize, I missed it. Thanks for sharing your way of cleaning up the paint.
hello i tried spray painting my quarter panel on my corolla the outside temperature was cold and the spray paint was horrible i may try rhis ty ..philip.
Single stage you will be removing color not clear so it will effect the appearance of metallics and make it look blotchy. A solid color you can sometimes get away with it.
My paint job has a loott of orange peel: like your red truck. So you sanded all the way to 5000, then used the black pad with Wizard's compound? Just trying to get that sequence right. I think Ill try that. Thanks again!
🤣 I just re watched part of that video, oh my I was new to RU-vid And that was hard to watch I had to shut it off. Good info but so bad lol. Thanks for watching I appreciate the support.

@@GarageNoise Thanks for the welcome, forgot to hit the like button and notification bell, just clicked and rung that bell. Hope that helps your YT algorithms.
This is good to see now that is orange Peele, your right about anyone not showing to much orange peel my ? Is with that amount of orange peel do you think you could of used a 1000 grit depending on how much clear you put on the other thing was that was a big jump from 1500 to 3000 didnt know thank you for this video
Does the clear die back, because you buffed it too soon? How many coats did you give it?? Three good coats to sand the clear coat, to give it a moderate sand and buff it a second time??
No buffing has no effect on die back. Die back has application or the clear coat. Two good coats is sufficient to wet sand and buff. This had two. You should oly have to sand it once in this process. Hope this helps, appreciate the support!
Getting glass like clear comes down to air pressure in relation to paint volume. So if your getting orange peel , you have too little air pressure for the amout of paint that's coming out of the gun. Other factors can effect this like what temperature your painting in or is your compressor producing enough air. Check out this video hope it help! Thanks for supporting the channel!
Older paint i would start with 2000 then 3000. If you start with 3000 it won't do much to help with scratch removal. You could try 1500 on a small area be careful tho it will be easier to sand thru a paint thats older.
Dude, that’s amazing! I hava a question tho. My car was repainted like 2 years ago and now I think it’s time to make it shine since it has a looot of orange peel. I’d do the sanding proccess and then use a compound with a cutting disc? Or a polishing compound with a polishing disc would be enough? Thanks in advance
@@GarageNoise thanks! would you recommend skipping the 5000 sanding stage and going with a cutting disc with compound instead? Or that final sanding step is completely neccesary to achieve that glossy finish?
I use a soft foam pad. The soft is typically the black. 3m pad but if you buffing 5000 the brand doesn't really matter. I've switched over to wizards finish cut. I like it, doesn't leave so much filler behind . Good question, thanks for watching brother! amzn.to/3b9rSzO
I have bought a motorcross bike I ride to work and the graphics were spray painted and have loads of stains I have no time off work so I can't paint it and wait do you have any recommendations as the bike has a black color underneath the white Terrible job they did the white looks like it's got mud on the bike even after cleaning Because it was not done properly I need help to solve this as I want a job that is quick and will do till I can completely remove old paint
Ok, if i understand correctly. You say the graphics were spray painted? If its only the graphics that were painted you may be able to remove the paint with some rubbing alcohol, mineral spirts or paint thinner. Be careful with paint thinner a little goes a long way . If its the whole bike thats is spray painted then you may just want to temporarily respay it with a rattle can till you can properly take care of it.
Garage Noise thanks for reply and sorry for being confusing, basically the bike was stolen and recovered spray painted white and because it was spray paint and not cleaned it has left dark mud like stains all over it and black metallic can be seen in scratches and I thought that it would be the best decision to speak to an experienced person than start respray one or two coats or start rubbing it off. I work as a mechanic and I never have time off to leave paint to dry and I'm starting to hate looking at my bike Because it looks like I never clean it I will try using alcohol first and see what it can do for the paint thanks so much for the quick response and advice
Ok , so try the alcohol in a small are first see how well it works. If the paint original paint was in good shape then these options won't hurt the original paint. Good luck let me know if you have any other questions.
@@GarageNoise will do thanks for being helpful and l cannot comment on the old paint I'll be taking a gamble but I want it resprayed Yamaha blue and have a livery but I'd like to have it the black first so I dont have to ride with an eyesaw all the time but I'm hoping it will be okay as I dont know what paint the white is so I dont want to paint over incase I trash it completely 😂😅
Garage Noise hi boss I just got my car back from the body shop and the paint job is bad just like in the video and how much to fix the orange peel. I would pay someone to fix the bad paint job
If you have clearcoat over your paint, color sanding will not effect the color. If your car is painted with single stage paint, meaning there is no clearcoat over the color then color sanding could effect the color. Even then if it's a solid color with no metallics then it should not change the color unless you wet sand thru the paint. If its a heavy metallic color single stage paint I would not wet sand it. A good way to tell if its single stage paint or not would be to buff a little. If color comes off on to the pad it has no clearcoat. Hope this helps thanks for watching and for the comment
Awsome! I just painted my car mattblack and got some rough parts and orange peel, i asume i should wetsand down before putting of the clearcoat (mattcoat), is there anything that seperates sanding down matt and the finish you just did here? Also, is there cleatcoat on the side you fixed or is it just the paint? Thanks again for a video that gave me faith in what i just did!
If you want your paint a matte finish meaning you don't want the finished product to have gloss . If that's the case you cannot wet sand and or buff it. It needs to be sanded smooth and re-sprayed . I hope this helps if you have any other questions let me know thanks for the comment don't forget to subscribe!
@@GarageNoise Hi and thank you so much for a quick response. I see, so since i want the matte finish, i can not sand or buff, i need to sand it down and repaint it, I guess i don't put a matte coat over it after that aswell? Subscribed!
My paint exactly looks like this, even base coat was dry and looked like this but i did put clear coat on top of it and now it exactly looks like this problem. Will your solution work even if the base coat looked like orange peel? Question ??
Yes, if you clear over rough or orange peel base coat you can wet sand the clear out like glass. You should however apply an extra coat of clear ,so at least 3 coats of clear . This will give you more clear to work with when color sanding.
Another side note, make sure your using the proper reducer for the temp your spaying in. This should eliminate dry spay. Also the clear catalyst needs to be for right temp your sprayin in. this is very important .
@@GarageNoise Unfortunately I am using spray paint cans from local store called Biltema here in Sweden. Temperature in my balcony is around 20 degrees Centigrade with normal humidity and no disturbance from wind
@@adnansgarage ok, you have already applied the paint? Is that correct? If you have, go ahead and clear it use a 2k clear in a can if you are able. Then let it dry for 15 min and apply another coat repeat for a third coat. Then i would let it dry at least 24 hours. Then you can color sand. I have a video how to pant your fender watching this may help.
