We don't do it full time but, do like to travel as much as possible with our trailer. Even if it is 3 or 4 hrs away. One thing we have found is asking the locals for suggestions on good places to eat, we always ask for "mom and pop" type places. This is especially good in touristy areas. The locals know where the good, reasonably priced food is and it is usually off the beaten path. We love to camp in the fall or spring before the summer season and high rates kick in. We like the cool weather but cheaper rates make it even better. When it comes to gas prices, a lot of times it is worth driving a mile or so off the exit, gas is usually cheaper if you get right off the highway.

Since you mentioned Costco...... they have a pretty good deal right now on Lion Energy lithium batteries. The UT 1300s are available in a two pack for $1399. So that is $700/battery and on Lion Energy's website they are $999/battery. So that is a pretty good deal.

I purchased the lifetime National Park pass for seniors at a cost of $10 a couple of years ago. I plan to also use my retired military discount wherever we go and whatever we do. Stayed at the Hale Koa (a military hotel), right on Waikiki, for $150/nt for our anniversary.

Meal planning lets you do some of the work ahead. When we hit the road for a week or two we'll have some things (like chili or lasagna) pre-made and frozen in a cooler. For other recipes we'll have dry ingredients pre-measured in zipper bags, and we can buy fresh produce and meat or fish along the way. On travel days we'll have lunch in the RV at a rest stop; you don't even have to leave the highway.

Genius! YES! Meal Planning can save sooo much money when road tripping because you can tactfully avoid gas station junk food ($$) and fast food or restaurants of any kind!

Good advice to the newbies out there! We basically use them all as well. Not big on Groupons or GoCard! Love our TSD card and with a diesel pusher, yes, we save money! We try not to eat out at all, but take in as much of the local scenery as possible and historical sites. National Park pass is a must have as well. Have fun, we are in Helper, Utah right now, work-camping at Castle Gate RV park. Come by and see us!

Great suggestions! We just Google... Top 10 "things to do in..." and "places to eat..." in whatever city or town we're near. There's usually a link to the local newspaper or magazine article with a curated list. Watch for the date of the article though.

Most National Parks and many State Parks have size limits, so we always check before we go. At any campground, we always tell them our size to be sure they can accomodate us. Haven't had too many issues 😊

Slowing down saves gas. Eat at Dollar Tree Drive on by campgrounds Put a timer on your hot water heater. Mooch off friends and relatives. Get a national parks pass

Great saving ideas!! I think the National Park Card can get you 50% off Army Corp of Engineer RV campgrounds. I know it does if you are a senior. I’m enjoying your course for RV Discounts. So far the only one we haven’t invested in is Boondockers Welcome, which we plan to do. Stay safe - hope to see you on the road again ~Janice~ 😊💞

lol stuffed to brim! No but seriously, we do have a pretty full pantry and fridge when we get back from Costco. We also use a small area of our under storage for the non perishables.

Hi Michell! Yes you do have to use the truck lanes because it's a corporate card only accepted there, not at the regular diesel pumps.

Do you pay at the pump at the trucker lanes or do you have to go inside? Do truckers act hostile ever if you are filling up in their lanes?

You can do either. We’ve never encountered hostility from truckers. Just be respectful of time and don’t block the pump if your not filling up.

The TSD enrollment site FAQ listing says "YES". And your vehicle's filler tube must also except the larger diameter filler nozzle as the volume and dispensing speed are significantly increased. It is great for those of us that can use it as the fill time is greatly reduced. Hope that helps. Maybe Jason or Rae will confirm.

Once you pay your fee for Thousand Trails, do you still pay a nightly fee on their grounds?

Depends on the membership but 95% of them are an annual fee with no additional nightly rate.

I just have one comment on your fuel savings just because you are buying it at the cheapest price doesn't necessarily mean that you're getting the best deal you should always buy high-quality gas to get more miles per gallon cheap gas bull run through quicker very good quality gas I personally prefer shell I get the most miles for the money

Question from. Just got an RV and it came with a free TT one year membership. In looking at what it would cost one zone is 400 the add on is 300 = 700 to add all zones 240 more = 940. You mentioned you pay 800 maintenance fee with im guessing a lifetime membership. Im told they cost thousands. What do you get i would not for just the 940 a year. Confused Please help..

The main benefits are the ability to go park to park, a longer booking window, and the ability to stay 21 days. There are others as well but those are the ones we use.
