Do not throw away any shampoos or wash gels. These things are designed to dissolve oils. They are amazing toilet cleaners, carpet cleaners and can be used to hand wash clothes. Hair shampoo does wonders for clothes washing. So if someone is sensitive to these items, don't throw them out, the toilet bowl doesn't care what it's cleaned with. Or your garden containers, or coats and small area rugs. All can be washed with shampoo. Certainly, test sensitive garments on a hidden spot first.

For my family, the key was buying in bulk. We are only a family of 3 so we don't usually buy in bulk, especially food. But for toiletries, this saved us so much money. In January, I spent $120 at Target. Here's what I bought: 32 oz Mrs Meyers multi surface cleaner concentrate ($9), 75oz Dawn dish detergent ($9), a 3 pack of Colgate ($5), 50 oz store brand mouth wash that I decant into a smaller glass ($3), 2x 56 oz softsoap refill ($8), twin pack of deodorant for my husband and me ($7), 16 bars of Ivory soap ($6), 2 large bags of dental flossers ($6), large store brand lotion ($4), 6 ct chaptsick ($6), tresemme 2 shampoos and 1 conditioners of the large size ($11), and 3 184 oz All Free and Clear detergent ($45). It is now almost April and judging by our stash, I can tell that this stuff is going to last us the entire year. $120 for a year of basic toiletries isn't bad at all!

Are you sure you don’t have to pick up things throughout the year? I am seeing a lot of toiletries missing from this list. Trash bags, Clorox bleach, toothbrushes, etc.. I spend way more and I am couponer so I’m interested to know how you survive only on $120 for the year lol

I LOVED what you said about God honoring our willingness to steward what he's given us, and him performing the miracles to provide. What a beautiful and precious lesson of faith!!! A few more tips on saving: buy toiletries on clearance! Just recently my local target had ALL of their shampoos on clearance. I have no idea why, but everything was marked down at least 50%, if not more. If you look for clearance items, you can usually find great stuff for a fraction of the price. Also, instead of throwing out a bottle because it's down to the last few drops- add a little water. You can get several more uses and can be sure you use everything instead of wasting! Thank you for these videos ladies! You are voices of reason in a consumer driven world!

The "repeat" on the shampoo bottle scored the person who worked for the company and came up with the "idea" a huge bonus. That is all it was. A contest among employees to sell more.

I use a little coconut oil rubbed on my pulse points and let that sink in my skin. Then I apply my perfume on top of that. The oil holds the scent to my skin a lot longer. Great savings tips ladies. Necessity really is the mother of invention.

for hand soap, I have a foaming soap dispenser that I refill with Dr. Bronner's soap. You can put in even as little as one part soap and 9 parts water and it lasts FOREVER. I also don't buy face cleanser because I use microfiber cloth and water only which works way more awesome than any fancy facial cleanser.

I never understood the shaving cream. Never! Soap your legs with a bar of soap and water....lather up, so nice, then shave...I also use a bar of soap for shower instead of shower gels because the skin feels a lot cleaner and you can remove the soap quicker than the gel when showering :-)

I reccomend using a very small amount of oil as a replacement for conditioner. just smooth it into the ends of your hair while it's damp and it works wonders. I like walnut oil best as it's quite light, but any old oil works well.

I follow a lot of this, but... -When my eczema flares, I use coconut & caster oils. If I can't/won't eat it, I won't put it on my skin because what goes on the skin ends up in the body, and I have a lot of allergies & medical conditions like Tawra. I can't tolerate petroleum products, soy or canola, so no shortening, Vaseline or baby oil! (BTW, Eww! for all 3.) Olive oil is cheaper, but doesn't work as well, and is harder to transport (I keep a tiny bottle with me.) -I use coconut oil to wash my face, and for body scrub bases. -I use coconut oil as a lotion, too. -I rarely use perfume since my husband doesn't care for it & I'm allergic to most anyway (instant debilitating migraines!) -I use little soap (except on my hands), and I'm always careful about scents, ingredients & quality. -I'm trying to get to the point where I don't use any shampoo (aka nopoo). I'm currently at 1 wash/week, and condition the ends with 1t coconut oil as needed. *Money Saving Tip* Quit using deodorant! That stuff is expensive! And toxic! Use magnesium oil (not an actual oil). Topical magnesium is way more effective than oral supplements (really helpful for fibro, too 😉), with the bonus of helping controlling foul odor. A $20 jar of magnesium flakes will last for years! ... depending on how many people are using it...

To stretch shampoo I have found it helps if, when I get a new bottle of shampoo, I pour half into the old bottle and fill both up with clean water. Most shampoos have quite harsh cleansers in and not only does it save money but its probably better for your hair and scalp. It certainly doesnt seem to leave my hair any less clean. Some of the more natural types of shampoo, which I have to use due to allergies, can occasionally go off if diluted and left a long time, so you may choose not to dilute a bottle till you are ready to start using it. Or if you have essential oils (such as a Lavender, which I use as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory) you can put a couple of drops of a suitable one in as a preservative. It depends on what type of soap you buy, some soaps will crumble if you try to cut them, but I quite often buy a type of soap which is relatively inexpensive, has glycerin in and is relatively soft and will cut easily. It looks nice because it is translucent but even if you keep it in a soap dish which lets it drain, it goes soft and messy quite quickly. So now to prevent that, when I buy a bar, I have the pleasant task of slicing the new soap into whatever style of chunks or wedges I fancy. Then I either put them back in the box and put them somewhere dry, or put them in a decorative bowl on the window sill. Then you dont have to spend so much time with a messy splodge of soap sitting there waiting to be used up and you have the pleasure of starting a neat new bar more more often. I use the soft little ends of bars to prewash oily spots on clothing.

One of your ideas was about shaving cream. I have sensitive skin and can not use shaving cream. I read a book many years ago as a teenager that said to use baby powder for shaving. I have done that for years! It's great for my under arms, legs, although I haven't had to shave my legs for a long time. And even when I did I shaved to my knees. I buy everything for $1. My toothpaste, a pack of thoothbrushes, I buy Suave shampoo and Conditioner for $2. They last a long time because I don't use a lot. Family Dollar has really good TP. They sell a 4 pack for $1. I buy 3 packs for a month, and I never buy tissues anymore, just use TP or cloth hankies. I found them at CVS for $1, 3 in a pack. I bought the mens and keep them in my coat pockets. I use cloth dish towels to dry my hands, so I can cut down on buying paper towels. One 3 pack will last a month. I also found videos on RU-vid about buying makeup for $1. E. L. F. can be found at Walmart or Target, MAC is $1. I rarely use makeup, I switched to tinted moisturizer instead of thick Cover Girl makeup. I save as much as possible every month on household needs.

Add water to things like shampoo, conditioner, hand soap. We've done that for years. We only had one child who noticed. So then I just watered it down to the point I knew she would start complaining and all was well. Now they are grown, so we are back to watering down until it is like a soap rinse and a conditioner rinse again. Still works just as well and stretches the pennies. Every bit helps. I also cut open the lotion bottles when they run low and use a Ziploc to keep it from drying out until used. I use a toothpaste tube flattener and once that it at the tip, I'll cut the toothpaste tube open as well and store it in a Ziploc. You can several days to another week out of it just by cutting it open and using that last little bit.

This is a tip on how my daughter and I save when it comes to shower gels and shampoo. We go to the Dollar Tree and purchase one of the large bottles [ 32 oz or 946 ml ] of shampoo and we use it as both a shampoo and a body wash combined. And boy does it save us a lot of money. Right now we are using Silkience Pro Formula Hydrating Shampoo and one bottle usually last about a month. We are both disabled so money is tight.

Shampoo, I saved an empty bottle and I mix half water half shampoo. I also do that with conditioner. I have very thick hair and one really important tip for me that you gave is making sure your hair is wet all the way thru, and I always shampoo just once. Another thing I do is use a foaming bottle and mix my own hand soap. I splurge and get a shower gel (on sale) in my favorite scent and mix about 3 Tbsp of the gel with water and refill the foaming bottle. One squirt is plenty for hand washing. One thing that surprised me was that using shower gel with a scrubby in the shower saves alot of soap as well. The scrubby foams up with one squirt of gel about the size of a dime - plus it is an exfoliant. Love your tips, Thanks!

Men's shaving cream is GREAT for removing the urine smell from your bathroom! Just spray the foam along the base of your toilet on the floor and let it sit overnight. It will seep under the toilet and push out any urine that has accumulated underneath it. In the morning, just clean it up then wash area with a little soap and hot water. Wring cloth before wiping the area clean. Then rinse with a damp clean cloth. Comes in handy when your male loved ones have poor aim.

one thing I have started is using fabric squares instead of toilet paper. I only use them for urine and use regular toilet paper for the other. I bought a used, soft flannel sheet at Goodwill and doubled it and cut and sewed into squares. I wash them once a week and it has saved me a ton of money. Women use so much more toilet paper than men! I have also made incontinence pads out of flannel also. Those I save in cases of emergency. I have used them as a trial and they work great. I just use large baby safety pins to hold them on. My only worry was smell in the bathroom. I didn't want it to smell like the old days diaper pail...but there is no odor, surprisingly. I just bought a small trash bin with a lid and throw them in there after use.

The more commercial shampoo/more often the dryer your hair and the more you need conditioner. I haven't used commercial shampoo in years. You can switch to bars or read up on no/low poo. Vinegar removes product. Be careful w/ baking soda, it can ruin some hair. Always look up pros/cons but even hair salons now often say to wash every few days, rinse in between. Homeless shelters always need those items, glad you donated it.

Mix it up a bit by adding a bit of baking soda, hydro proxide , Charcoal or even a few drops of oral jell for chronic pain. Add a tube of all white when almost empty to your tool box for quick fix for nail holes or such.

Due to my chemical sensitivities I've learned a ton about what I don't need to use anymore & how bad a lot of ingredients are for our bodies! I've stopped wearing make-up, so don't need make-up remover either & discovered that shampoo strips my hair of natural oils, so I barely use any shampoo & no conditioner now either. My skin & hair are thanking me for not using products on them! It's now over 11 years & my skin is looking amazing compared to others who smother their skin in "beauty" products & I've saved a heap of money!🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

I agree about medicines as far as generic being as good as name brand. The only issue lies if someone has an allergy to the preservative or inactive ingredients. For instance my aunt has to ensure all of her medications and vitamins are gluten free, a friend needs to avoid corn/cornstarch. Many times a person is not allergic to the medicine itself, but the inactive ingredients/preservatives.

This is true about returning things. I bought a yogurt at Aldi for my husband and I said try it because it was almost half the price of other brand name yogurts and the cashier said keep the reciept and they will give us a different yogurt. : )

I learned a !ong time ago that just because a bottle/can/box says to use x amount. Does not mean a person must do that. A lot of times it was a marketing tactic to use to the product up to buy more. Same with grocery stores. Having to go all over the store to find your items it what they want us to do so we will see other items we dont need.

I sure appreciate both of you! I have learned so much from watching your videos! I want to add some info about shampooing hair! I am a professional hair stylist and was convinced through brainwashing that you had to spend 15 bucks on shampoo and conditioner and buy professional products only. However the people who make shampoo now are selling to Walmart and other stores. there is a shampoo that is out now by a company called Garnier fruits...something like that. they have a whole line of products and it's about 2.98 to 3.98 depending on if it's shampoo, conditioner hairspray or moose. it's made from botanicals and not animal protein like other shampoos in the past. The botanicals get the hair cleaner, and and you don't have to wash it as often. one shampoo for me can last 4 days. I just use a curling iron and a little water and the bottanical moose to it and re design my hair. your hair when it's a little dirty makes the style last longer. the concept is clean dirt. even Paul Mitchell came out with a product called Mudd...that helps your hair style better. I save so much money too that way...I do my hair on Sat nite style it and dry it and the style lasts a whole 5 days..i just touch it up!!!!no more spending hundreds of dollars every few months on products for me!!! that helps now because I'm on disability and we are in our 60s and on a limited income. I get better results spending less money and I think my hair looks better now than it did when I was 30... oh and I cut my own hair too! I have a mirror set up so I can cut the back as well as he sides! I originally went to beauty school to learn how to cut my own families hair but I loved it so much hat I did it for 38 yrs...and I can cut my own hair blindfolded practically! thanks for your brilliant ideas it's made my whole life more bearable!

We saved by using plain ivory bar soap for washing hands at the sink...it's cheaper and lasts longer than liquid soap, and it means we buy a package of multiple bar soaps and it goes farther. thanks for tips on shampoo. Use apple cider vinegar, with witch hazel, and water in 1 to 1 ratio for acne...seriously I've had cystic acne for years it helps. Watch for food sensitivies too, as soon as I gave up diary my acne cleared up.

a trick i learned as a dog groomer thier shampoo is very concentrated. they mix it with water in squeeze bottles. playing in that trick i sometimes take a bottle fill a little with warm water and put that pump of shampoo in and shake it up. this and really wet hair like you mentioned lathers it better and that pumo lasts 2x as long.

I haven't bought shampoo in a couple years at least. I get Target beauty boxes each month and alot of times there is a shampoo and conditioner sample of 3 ounces each that last me at least a couple months. The most recent being Nexxus Salon Care Color Assure ProteinFusion, 3 ozs each. There are also many other self-care/beauty products in the box. I rarely ever have to buy full size products of anything. The box can include deodarants, full-size too. Toothpastes, lotions, moisturizers, facial cleansers, makeup wipes, etc. samples. Cost $7/box. $7 x 12 months = $84 per year. :)

Wet your hair by bending down and let the shower wet the scalp too. Always wet your hair so the shampoo lather better. Shampoo should be lather on the scalp. Make sure the scalp is dry before tying up the hair or sleep. This keeps oily hair away.

I have been halving my liquid laundry soap in the huge jugs with my three recipe laundry soap. Borax,A&H and Zote, it lacks the detergent but halving it with actual detergent keeps the clothes smelling fresh and clean. That being said, I make up,in the giant pickle jars, the dry Borax,A&H and shredded Zote mixed in. I store them in sauce or olive jars, I then toss that mixture in the toilets, don’t need much to scrub toilets and sinks. I do spray the tubs and showers with a foaming cleanser at least three times per week. There are 7 of us, we are far from poor but we are preppers. I have Eczema so I literally switched to baby shampoo, went from $16-$20 every two weeks for shampoo down to about $6. Anywhere I can save I try because who knows what is coming.

Love your recommendations. Rarely do I buy kleenex, I use toilet paper for my colds. I fold a few sheets and put them in my purse. I believe that what makes you buy certain shampoos and lotion is the smell, the aroma, it is the first thing you do in the store. I also use very little and wash my hair only once, a bottle of shampoo lasts me forever. Lots of kisess to you both, love your videos😘

I only wash my hair once a week in winter, twice a week in summer. Yes, I only wash once. Lol. You can, if you want to be extreme. Put the shampoo in an airator type bottle with 1 half shampoo half water. You don't need much just wash your scalp unless you are stinky. I take a bath or shower every day. My daughter wastes the shampoo and conditioner she's still young...I think that is pretty common, it's a matter of continuing in to show them the proper amount to use.

The ex drove stupid too speeds up knowing that she would have to slow. She would eat brakes up, . I was a trucker I was trained to drive the Smith system. Basically you drive to avoid friction. 3 places to get or control friction gas pedal brake pedal and atmosphere. You have to speed up but not for a stale green light. If you are at a stop sign that is stacked up you don't have to speed up and stop every time the heelots do? Let them get a few car lengths ahead and just take your foot off the brake the car will roll if you do it right you will not have to break till it is your turn at the stop sign. If you see cars ahead at a red light why accelerate to only have to break? Slow your roll where you don't touch the brake by the time you get where they were stopped if you did it right you will just have to slightly add a little gas. Not only do you save fuel your vehicle should last a lot longer because you are using less than you need. I do drive the speed limit but if I'm where the traffic can pass like on the interstate I will do 5 or more below. This saves me incredible fuel. The heelots have to speed they can't help themselves they always drive faster than their guardian angel can fly, at least 5 over this is min 10 mph difference when they pass my car it's like they just put a table spoon of gas in my tank pulling my car right along with them. They have to really drive too , weaving breaking accelerating gets them tired they wonder why? I just have to hold the wheel rarely do I have to pass. I usually did the driving when we went places never got stopped. Ex leaves me basically fired her driver ? She was plagued with citations but hey she needed to be on her own.

Jan Karon, who wrote the Mitford series, said, in the Mitford Cookbook, that when she left her lucrative job to write full time that she had been using a LaMer face product, which is very expensive. She switched to Vaseline and she stated it worked just as well. I often place a dab of Vaseline in the palm of my hand, then add some inexpensive moisturizer and blend the two together before rubbing onto my legs and arms. It works very well and costs far less than the expensive lotions like Gold Bond, etc.

My 13 yo gets horrific eczema on his hands and wrists every cold, dry, new England winter. I have found that running humidifiers in his room and in our main living area helps tremendously, sometimes. Long weekends and school breaks, when he's home a lot, it becomes very minor. But as soon as he heads back to school, they flare right up again. I think it's the difference in humidity in the air between school and home. We do the best we can every winter with it, but so far, no signs of it going away.

Correct Jill you don't have to wash your hair twice; its so you use up the shampoo quickly and then have to buy more!
@grantandsusan1581
@grantandsusan1581 5 лет назад
Sue Wilson actually the reason for shampooing twice is for women who use product on their hair. My hairdresser says the first cleanse removes the product. Then the second cleanse is to remove the oil and dirt. If you don’t use product you don’t need to shampoo twice.

A friend of ours went to boot camp (many years ago) and the man in charge of his group gave them a tip on their first day there. He said to go to the PX and buy baby shampoo and use that in the shower not only for hair but to also wash their bodies. The extra bonus being they would not have a soap film (scum) to clean up because it just doesn't build up. To this day, I never use bar soap in the shower or bath and never have a soap film build up.

Wash your hair far less often. Sure, you might be a little greasy at first, but cut down gradually and your oil glands should adjust (as in, produce less oil). Even if you work out or get sweaty hair but are not due for a wash, just RINSE it out with cool water, then use a little conditioner. No need to shampoo if it's not greasy, just wash out the dried sweat. I have tried this and my hair has never been in better conditioner. I use far less product, and it's a huge time saver for me as I have long, really thick hair.
