In this te reo maori language lesson, learn 100+ different phrases by following this simple grammar structure, combined with an even simpler mathematical equation. The structure allows you to maximise the amount of things you can say while using the least number of words. It is the ultimate hack for efficient language learning.
We look at a very simple sentence structure, one called “active sentences”. The active sentence is made up of a tense + an action + a doer of the action.
The tense defines when the action is occurring (past present or future), the action is what is actually being done and the doer of the action is the person/thing/animal that is doing the action. In English it might look like:
- Now walking me, or, I am walking.
Another example might be:
- Has already, eaten, him, or, he has already eaten
If we take these three parts of the grammar structure we can begin to start multiplying them out to get an exponential number of sentence combinations.
For example, if we have 3 tenses, 10 actions and 4 doers, we have a total of 17 words (3+10+4) which can be combined into 120 different sentences (3*10*4).
The tenses we’ll cover are kei te (present), ka (future) and i (has already).
