Unfortunately the foam does not make it bug or mouse proof. I would suggest filling in any void larger than your finger tip with steel wool before adding the foam to keep mice out.

I can attest to this. He should have put some wire mesh or something like you mentioned, in order to prevent the rays from chewing, otherwise they’ll eat right through that foam. It might work to deter them a little but if there if they really want to they can get in

@@denniss5845 yeah, they make a bee resistant foam as well but they are not perfect. They can't get past the steel wool ever.

Use sealing clay, its dirt cheap, its waterproof, it doesn't harden and its what most utility companies use when they have to bring pipes into buildings.

Never fill feed points with foam fml. If they want it sealed, just use a small amount of silicone with some steel wool inside

To make it mouse proof put steel wool in with the foam. Steel wool prevents mice chewing through

You take a long rod or drillbit and poke out the foam. I'm assuming the hole just goes straight through. At least in my area there is no UV resistant outdoor rated wire that looks like that though. Also it looks like garbage. On a new or Reno'd building the wires should enter the back of the fixtures. Not out the wall and free hang over. Tbh looks like a home owner 'special'

As a cable tech seeing the feed into the house from the outside housebox filled in killed me becuase need other wires added it'll either be a pain to clear that foam out or drill a new hole
@blumby4883
@blumby4883 Год назад
Bug proof, yes. Mouse or rat proof..no. I’ve seen mice gnar their way to upper condos THROUGH the wood, and THROUGH the linoleum. Mice…not rats. Rats could chew through surfaces even quicker. That expansion foam would not keep a single rodent out. You need to use either steel wool, or a steel mesh screen and seal it on the borders with industrial adhesive caulking. Then you can spray it in with insulating spray foam. Spray foam and good caulking can prevent bugs. You need more to prevent rodents though.

Good idea on the gap filler. However, I would have covered the filler with metal flashing held in place with construction adhesive. Foam is not a long term fix. It will degrade to powder within a matter of years. Flashing and construction adhesive will last a lifetime.

It's actually concrete expansion joints, for example, sidewalks or patios. It's meant to get wet. As concrete expands with seasonal changes that goes between to keep concrete from cracking or chipping. Just a friendly fyi.

They also make a product that they sell at Home Depot comes in a green can it’s called great stuff pest seal or something like that it’s gray when it comes out of the can for spots near electrical I would suggest great stuff fire block. Also, for those really big gaps you can get great stuff. Big gap filler seals up to 3 inch holes. I work in commercial construction and this is what we use.
