so basically i need to get an instagram account. I had to delete my old one, but interestingly i dissed a famous comedian/actor and he responded to me and told mey art was dope. Then out of no where people showed up to my page and were like "hey Nick Swardson sent me". After that I tried to target semi famous people with quick jokes just for the recognition
@@driesketels I'm actually going to hit up my local doctors offices. Since I'm a physio, i have good relationships with doctors and i planned to ask if they want to borrow a painting for their waiting room for free for 6 months. After that they can chose to buy it or return it. With a requirement that I'm allowed to leave a portfolio book with my Artwork and contact info on the little waiting room table. Most patients who go to the doctor are older and more willing to buy artwork. And the praxis has nothing to lose
Your videos are filling so many holes in my business strategies. I just thought that I wasn't good at business but I'm still learning and I'm going to try and try again with your teachings. Thank you so so much for spreading your knowledge.
Been watching & rewatching your videos to implant your strategies. 21 years old atm, gonna grind and grind to get there cuz art is what I need to do!!! And to impact the world! Thank you so much!
You are really good at these. You have an understanding based on experience, a deep curiosity about the mindset of buyers, and a talent for teaching. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Very good information, but some comments 1, do your best art, don't pay attention to public interests. Don't get lost yourself. 2, buyers can wait for custom design art, no rush to send.
There is another way. I only just started Instagram maybe 3 hours ago and over 100 followers so far. It's the opposite of how people try. I have followed you also. Much admiration from South Africa. Your work is unique and brilliantly done. Techniques not well used or even known.
2:55 I love the quote about copy copy copy copy . My mother, who was an amazing artist in her own right, used to encourage copying as well and say don't be afraid of copying, that's how the great artists become great. And I always resisted that, and in some ways I think I still do, but I definitely see the wisdom behind it because once you have confidence in who you are, and you trust yourself, your soul will start coming through your work
Hey! Thanks man. Great advice! I saw loads of ppl talking about formulas for pricing art, then I spotted you saying that was bullshit. Now I’m watching all your videos and you’re clearly talking truths here. Much appreciated. I’ve started receiving DMs asking about buying my art, and I’ve no idea how to go about pricing or any of it really.. so, I’m grateful for your content!
Great video fantastic video, Im about to start selling my abstract art. ZERO experience at selling but i have about 15 finished pieces. Been a year or so planning what i can. Watching your videos has given me some of the best advice I have. Perhaps youll get to see mine at some point. Ive been sitting on these for 2 years afraid of what people think, think im over that finally. I haven't received good advice or praise so , the ones that did like it genuinely made me feel good. Guess i got those feelings/emotions out and realize it doesn't matter.
I've seen your videos before, but it looks like I'm seeing you for the first time, you ' ve got a great personality ❤new Friend here 👍 congratulations,, thank you for sharing your knowledge, those quotes are golden, I love the biblical one from Ecclesiates1:9.The thing that hath been,it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the Sun. My brother says this a lot, when he started playing music more frequently for service at the Angelican Church when we were kids. Again thank you for sharing
Hi Dries, I like your videos, but still cannot find any artbuyers or collectors. All I found was other artists on the galleries pages who supposedly follow art collectors.
@@driesketels It's good timing too! I plan on dusting off my old IG account and making something of it. First lesson I learned: don't have it on private mode. Sheesh...
In both videos he is only recommending online galleries to beginners, and in that other video he also said that satchi is the best. But still you are giving them the data, so as soon as you can, get your own website and drive traffic to your own website and use the data for advertising. He said all of this in both videos.
Hi Dries, thanks for the video and all these pieces of advice but what I can not understand is how you can advice on selling art on Instagram within 48 hours if from your side, you haven't been posting on Instagram since 2 years. How is that? Thanks
I have 2 videos on the channel explaining why I don't use IG anymore. But what I shared in this video is what I used to be doing on IG. It works like a charm.
@@driesketels Instagram of nowadays is not the same as s couple of years ago. I guess what worked two years ago, dies not work now. Instagram is saturated with accounts of artists who want to sell their art.
I'm 100% sure it still works now because it's not really about the platform, it's more about human psychology and the platform might change but human psychology never changes. ps: it was saturated with artists 2 years ago and 4 years ago as well Natalya. The entire world is saturated with artists everywhere you go it will be saturated with artists, that's part of the job XD
@@driesketels to be able to have some reactions, comments , likes and new subscribers now on Instagram, according to new algorithms of Instagram, you are supposed to spend hours and hours to create content, reels, stories.... If you do not spend hours , then no results.
Killer video man I really appreciate the wisdom you offer and have obviously gleaned from the bible I'm an up and comin artist in the kingdom of God and this helps a lot 🙌 keep up the good work
I first seen one of your video's pop up in my feed and watched it. I am really impressed with the information you giving. I am a new subscriber and looking forward to watching more of your video's. You mentioned about stealing from other artist. Is that stealing from their work or idea's? I've been told that my work looks a lot like Andrew Wyeth's work yet I never intended to copy his work. Its just my style. Is that what you mean by copying?
I've been trying use Instagram to get my art noticed but it seems like no matter what hashtags I use, I keep ending up with little to no results. Only just a few family members and friends seem to notice my art but it's like as if I didn't bother to apply hashtags. What can be done improve this?
Ill be 48 this year, and will start using social media to 'sell' and show my art this year! Ive had websites and account for years, but never did anything useful with them sofar. My art ivnt shown much.
Great content man! I just feel like And maybe you can help me figure this out I'm from a country name Mozambique where art is belittled as a hobby and there Not much art base or audience here And instagram does help because my content doesn't get alot of exposure regardless of how good it is not even in the use of hashtags.. and 3 while art can be free to do in my situation I have to invest in making money to run a art biz but me having no job is the reason I want to make money in art to hopefully finish my last semester in college So I would like to know what are free ways my art account can actually get exposure for the right people to find me in the art community?
I look to some of your videos, useful. I am sorry, but I need to tell you that a head of cow with flies that are killed in a glass room isn't art, it is only a silly thing that creates negative karma. I don't want to open a discussion, but only tell it to you. I would like to see your work. have a nice life.
I am currently 24 and I really want to sell my paintings on Etsy or fine art America but I am hesitant because they want your debit card. So I didn't know I can sell in instagram
If you're making so much money selling your art, why are you bothering putting out so many RU-vid videos? Isn't the truth that you make more money from RU-vid than from your art?
Commentary about the business side of art are interesting but you appear to have only sold 11 paintings since you joined Saatchi Art with gross sales before commission of less than £10k. Are you sure you are not overselling this?
@@driesketels I think your content is helpful, but you are setting yourself up as an authority on these sales channels (possibly with good reason) and it would be much more compelling if you were transparent about your success (and failure) on different channels. There are other youtubers who have set up in related spaces who have done fantastically well (links on request) by being completely transparent rather than overselling what is possible and what they do. Remember that people often learn more from failure than success, and that ultimately youtube relies on credibility with your audience. If you really do want to help people and really do want to set yourself up as an expert in this space (I have no problem with either) are you brave enough to give actual sales figures via various channels? This would be very powerful and educational and help people far more than the clickbait "zero to $1 million" generalised advice videos. At some point I feel its important to put real numbers into the mix. Are you brave enough?
Thanks for letting me know... Yes there are several accounts pretending to be me to sell people NFT scams and things like that... I try to report them but it doesn't seem to work at all so... there's not much that I can do, perhaps I should post about it more on social media, so far I just made some stories announcing the bad news.
