Hey Matt, I just wanted to say thanks a ton for the instructional videos. I have a 2000 yzf 600r Thundercat that I bought and rode for a few weeks before ( long story short) a piston tip broke off and began punching a hole through one of the cylinders. I've taken the motor off the bike and tore it down to get the piston and cylinder replaced. Its been a 3 yr. project but I'm finally getting some headway and hopefully will have her running by my birthday on august 4th...... god willing lol. I couldn't have done what I'm attempting to do w out your shared knowledge. thanks!!!!!
I have 1989 fzr 600 with similar engine if not identical. I did valve adjustment recently but I don't remember if I placed the cam chain keeper right ( the center piece with 4 bolts on it). Can it be placed either way right ? Can it be installed backward if I'm not careful? Both ends look the same. It slanted up ward for the chain.. Thanks
Idk if you've addressed it yet, but can you go into installing the water pump? I think mine is loose and a bolt snapped, haven't checked yet. But I do see a gap between the pump and engine
14:41 the cam chain keeper at the center with 4 bolts to hold it down. Does it matter if it is installed backward? I can't tell the difference which way is forward or backward on my 89 fzr 600. Thanks.
Can you either tell me where you get torque specs online or tell me what the rods, main case bolts and head torque are? The ONLY specs I find that are nice and detailed are from 99 up! I don't want to get the torque wrong.
I.like how you show how everything goes. I'm about to do my 03 yzf600r. Do you by chance have a site I can go to to order the full gasket kit? I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find 1.
Hay Matt I have the same bike and mine won’t hold second gear on up shift but will on down shift would that be a indication that my thunder cat neads a rebuild
I need help!! I Replaced cases because of a broken chain, long story short I got it back together timed it 6 times or so got marks dead on like in your video, no start, checked compression 60psi on cyl 1,none on the rest,oh bike is 06 yzf 600r
so im late to this but it seems the fazers timing (same engine btw) is different to the cats for the intake camshaft, here the cats camshaft alignment is 1 tooth advanced wheras the fazers is 1 tooth retarded, is this the reason the fazer has more mid range and the cat has more top end 5hp?
This video is not good. You say to have the cam timing marks straight up, this is not true as the intake is slightly off, you did not mention that at all and if they are both "up" ....well then it's wrong
Your videos are of great help and motivation!! I have just saved a 2008 xj900P from the scrapyards as where I am based no one uses or wants an old bike. Hence there are no Pvt shops who would want to work on such and the dealerships doesn't touch the retired bikes!! I might need your advice on an issue which might be quite a bit for this space. If willing, could you kindly share your email or phone number so maybe I can bother you in detail. Thanks from Dubai!!
