Most newer bikes have the geometry listed on their websites. You can look up seat tube angles, and compare stack and reach measurements. Because of the seat tube and head tube angles, moving the saddle and bars up and down means you move them fore and aft as well. So you need to adjust for that. For me with an inseam of 73.5cm, 1° of seat tube angle is about 6mm of fore aft movement. Doesn't seam like much, but you can certainly feel it.

Great video, but I have a question. how would you go about a first road bike setup (Specialized Venge), coming from a hybrid bike (Trek DS3)? The geo. is absolutely nothing the same, bar heights are drastically different, etc

Hood measurement not necessarily good method. Bike touring with butterfly bars... brake levers are in front of twist shifters

rode a double century with my previous bike...no complaints. New bike's reach is 4cm longer. All other measurements are identical. Top tube is 2cm longer...stem is 2cm longer. I obviously feel more pressure on my hands & an mild lower back ache on the sides. My core is currently very weak & my body is 48 years old. without seeing me on the bike, would you recommend more stretches & exercises before shortening the stem a few?

4 cm is a pretty good (large) change. I think I'd probably shorten the stem and keep working on exercises with the idea perhaps as the body improves the reach could be lengthened out a little

thanks boss. I transferred the stem (2cm shorter) off my old bike...took it out for a spin this morning...felt substantially better. Though my reach is still 2cm longer.. I think its ok.

My actual handlebar is to wide I need to change it for a new one. My current handlebar reach is 70 mm if I change it to a handlebar 73mm reach will I feel it ? Is that small difference enough to cause some kind of pain? Thanks
