Nice tour of your system. I think I'd prefer an elevated stand like that than down to the ground. Can always find something to store or do under there.

We will be mounting our (12) 390 watt QCell panels on top of a 40' container. In our area we need to keep ground squirrels from eating all the wiring. Great video! Thank you for posting!

I haven't thought about safety if I'm honest. The way you did things, and how you focused on safety had an impact on me. Instead of investing in more panels, I'm using that now to purchase some of these things that I'm learning I need to make this a safe small solar generator type system that I've built. Thanks for your video, I have almost the same setup but without some of your safety features which will be changing

Nice and thorough explanation of everything. How much do you think the voc will raise on a cold day in the winter? I’m curious how close you’ll get to your threshold.
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
That is a very good question that I can't seem to find the answer for. The system will be going offline because that trailer is not insulated enough to run heat. Batteries and inverter will be disconnected and brought in the house. At some point I could test the voltage on a sunny cold day with a volt meter 👍
@MyBacktrail
@MyBacktrail Год назад
I can answer kind of. My temporary panel set up technically barely exceeds my CC's limit of 150V, but in the summer is usually running around 125V. But every winter, once or twice a year when the temp gets really cold and I mean below zero F, AND it is really sunny outside, the panels then become so efficient that they exceed the threshold and the controller stops the incoming voltage. The controller is a Midnite Solar Classic, so I'm not sure if all controllers can do that. But that is a rise of about 20%, but again, only when it's below zero.

I was afraid that over lapping the brackets would not line up ok. Thanks for showing it works out. SignatureSolar has a minimum purchase of 10 panels. Did you buy new?
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
Yes, I did buy new. I'm up on Canada so I used the local solar store up here. Used are a good choice as well. What size are you thinking of buying?

Great job! Thank you for the video! I’m just curious, what is a max power (voltage, amperage) have you seen coming from your PV array setup?
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
1785 watt is the most power I've recovered. There are 6-310 watt panels.
@tjmooney4181

One question I have is, I have 8 395 watt bifacial panels 160 feet away from my single eg4 3000 inverter shed. Each panel has 47 voc and short circuit amps of 10.82 amps. The inverter has 500 volt input capability so I am wondering if I should run all in series to keep the amperage down for my 8 awg pv cable for the distance? Or do similar to you and put 4 and 4 in series to combo box then parallel them together for the distance?
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
I would run them in series. be interested in seeing what the voltage reading at the array compared to the reading after 160 ft. You could try both just hook it up without the combiner box temporarily to measure. Be careful.

Thanks, I've been living off grid for 10 years and this was still useful. I'm building a new array rack similar to yours. Question: do you think the 2x6 "rafters" are necessary, or could they have been 2x4s? What is the span on them?
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
Thank you, This was my first array I built. Thinking back a 2x4 probably would have worked. I believe it's a 9ft span.

Won't max VOC be higher at -20C ?? Like up to 30% higher? Which would/could trip the Growatt, heat the wires/breakers/fuses?

You need to be prepared to lose your wooden PV mount. It's matter of time when a squirrel/etc decides to chew on your electrical wires. One, I would have run the wiring inside of metal conduit. Two, a metal ground mount will last longer (no rotting wood). Three, place barriers to keep animals from climbing up the support legs.
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos 8 месяцев назад
Thankfully, no animals have shown any interest in my ground mount array. Yes, in 20 years, I will look for wood rot. As of now, everything is working perfectly. Thank you for the advice.

just a thought... would a made more sense to just mount those solar panels to the trailer and remotely power the house.
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
Not in my situation, There isn't enough square footage on the roof to accommodate the panels. Also I wouldn't have the proper angle to get the best sunlight.
