Well, took long enough but I'm glad Indy finally got with the program. Been grinding my 169's down to their axles since the early 80's. Thought for sure at Stage 5 they would've introduced this. Yet until the repugnant "spline" kingpin, one could always swap out for a GK kingpin or worse case, just invert the regular hex and grind away. Whatever, still the best, fuck the rest. Absolutely LOVE the brand new stock bushings too btw! THE BEST EVER! Signed, Indy for life since '78.

Are these not just the old base plates that could be used with a grindking kingpin? I remember the base plates where changed so that other brand king pins couldn't be used which was a dickmove on indy's part but this just looks like you guys are getting rid of old stock and selling it as if it's something new.

i cant even tighten mine beyond unsafe looseness levels i have used bushings honestly have had 2 defect independent products ina row ,, and this comes right after breaking my kingpin doing a heel on flat at work on my titaniums, litterally done with indepedent lol

I wish the truck companies would make the baseplates so that it works with the inverted kingpin nuts on the underside. Most have a round cavity around the kingpin so the aftermarket inverted kingpins don't catch and you gotta epoxy/jb weld it.

I actually did the opposite and put my mid hanger onto my hollow kingpin indy baseplates because the inverted kingpin kept loosening and in about 10 minutes of skating would do a rotation of almost 180 degrees looser, I couldnt get it to stay no matter what I did. I know this because I marked a spot with permanent marker to see how much it loosens.

If you skate your trucks really loose beware…Idk about these Indy’s but I used to have some grind kings and some silver trucks that had inverted kingpins and the kingpin would always rattle loose and fall out because I skate too loose. I still have a habit of trying to hand tighten my truck bolt every time I pick up my board even though I no longer have that problem. Lol, I’ll end up trying these out but idk if they’re gonna be good for loose trucks.

I have 159 mids. My pivot cup and hanger are jiggly unless I tighten trucks down to a pint where they are too tight.

gotta keep the 159s running got my stage X still going. I may have to try one of these baseplates once my kingpin goes i already dusted my two black and gunmetal kingpins from my stage 9s A lot of tail and half cab nose slides. Probably what happens when i use a stage x hanger with stage 9 plates. Stage 9 set the standard for me which is why i ride conical indy bushings. 159 for life on 8.38 bakers with them pointed long noses and snappy tails. Manderson wheels/shape for life. Extra hanger once i found out pedro switched down from 169s to 159s which are closer to the stage 9 169 width. Its nice to know im riding the same trucks and deck width as one of my favorite skaters. And by pedro i mean PETE. So for me its that 8.75" axle with conical bushings on indys best feel for me on 8.8-9' shaped. and i ride it on 8.38 too. I like the idea of not having to have the kingpin nut too tight while still having the truck secured which is impossible on thunders or old thunders. This can make for a looser or more turn enabling INDY while still being able to use a harder bushing under the yoke to tighten up the limit on the lean or add some pop Like a good balance of loose and turnability and hard enough bushings for pop or high speed.

I had to replace my Indy kingpin with a #8? bolt that was a quarter inch longer so I could put double barrels on it but the king pin sticks up past the hanger. Not sure what to do to get the best of both worlds.

So Indys run $80-130 up here in Canada and the inverted kingpin base runs $30. So most other trucks you'd could just invert the kingpin but not Indy unless you are handy. So we now pay up to $160 for a set of independent trucks for a inverted kp

Inverted kingpins are not new. My very first trucks (skateshop branded trucks) were inverted and could even be flipped around. Why don’t they just sell them in this orientation. What will i do with the old base plate!?

I've got the Reynolds with inverted king pin and the damn things wont get any tighter. There's only a half inch or so of threads. In fact, I tried to tighten it so hard it seized up on the threadless shank. I'm scared to buy a pair of regular indy 149 with normal kingpin because I don't know if it will tighten more. Thunders may be calling my name again.

One thing I immediately thought of. What if the kingpin will breake, so that one part him stuck inside the thread? It will be impossible to get it, only to drill it out. This is not good.

That allen key is a 5.5mm key. I know of no skate tool, (nor bike tool) that has a 5.5mm allen key. Is Independent going to add a skate tool that will have a 5.5mm key?

my kingpin wobbles in one of the baseplates. I unscrewed the thing cuz I assumed I just screwed it in wrong. Nope. the part of the baseplate that holds the kingpin is wobbling, (just one one truck, the other one is fine). Also, it doesn't allow me to tighten enough - it won't screw in anymore. It's still way looser than I like. pretty disappointed overall, but for people who like a looser setup, and don't end up with the manufacturing defect that I had in the one truck, could be fine.

you can just hammer out the kingpin, set the nut in the baseplate with loctite - flip the kingpin and put it all together. Tightening it down is a bit of a bitch, but it’s how we used to do it.

Grindking did it better in the 90s all you needed was the kingpin they sold, Not a whole modified baseplate and kingpin set...

Why wouldn't you just get a brand new truck? Hanging up doesn't really have to do with the kingpin, it has to do with not knowing how to get out of a disaster or roll in.
