The new Independent MiD Trucks with an inverted/reverse kingpin. We got some pairs of these trucks and got to ride them for almost a month before they release to the world! Here's our review on the trucks, what we love, what we don't love, when newer versions come out (hollows, highs & more).
Find out if Hi trucks are coming? Are they the same geometry? Are Hollows coming? How do they work? What does Levi think of them? And much much more.

What are your thoughts on the new Indy reverse kingpin? Dope or Nope?! Here's a little article with all our most frequently asked questions on the trucks: shop.shredzshop.com/blogs/blog/new-independent-reverse-kingpin-mid-trucks/

I’m happy with the kingpin clearance and hanger with standard indys but still excited about these.

I'm thinking I might have to try them in 144 on a 8.25" board. That way I can still keep the 149 titaniums for my park set up with the 8.5". Hay any one riding old school 215s on a fish board.

It's looks like the old stage 8 baseplates. Before they changed the kingpin in the stage 9 faster to knock out kingpin. I was hoping the kingpin was hollow. More then likely a Krux down low hollow would screw right in.

Does nobody else remember grind king Allen key kingpins from about thirty years ago? THIS ISN'T A NEW INNOVATION!
@Mystninja
@Mystninja 3 года назад
@@edwardbentley3512 my brother had them. And the bottom nut keeped moving around. He had the hollow base grind king's. Then years later I found a shop that did the invention kingpin. You had to hammer a nut into your trucks. I was lucky as I had a foot long bit of rail road track to use as a anvil. Then around 2005 all trucks change to the different kingpin. I'll say because people hat been going and buying parts from a hardware store. And not truck company.

I bought the inverted kingpin + baseplate set and put my titanium axle hangars on em this last summer. They were slightly heavier than what I was used to and I had to purchase Indy hard cylindrical bushings because my bones conical hards wouldn't tighten at all, but they're pretty much the perfect truck now. I highly recommend hard bushings if you like to tighten your trucks at all with these. So far, no hangups. Solid turns. Bulletproof. 👊🏻

Replace the crappy cheddar cheese bushings with Powell Hardcore bushings and there is an ultimate skateboard truck that won’t hang up as easily and the inverted kingpin won’t strip out.

I swear we had this shit like 20 years ago. maybe I'm remembering things wrong, but someone made a rounded top allen key tightening kingpin that you could install on your trucks. Just had to knock out the normal kingpin and install it.

Yeah man I had Grind Kings 20 years ago or more (I'm old lol) with the domed top and Allen key. But good to see with these you've got the option of Allen key and hex cause once ya ground the Allen hole a bit they were impossible to take out. And Allen keys on anything just kinda suck in general lol.

When you see a video that makes you old... The greatest "invention" from Indy, the inverted king pin... REALLY???? My 90's Venture trucks have inverted king pin, grindking, krux, film etc... I was 20 years without skating and my my first complaint when choosing new trucks "why thunder, venture and indy dont have inverted king pin?", but i guess if indy makes it's kinda of a big deal... The good news, maybe now all brands bring the inverted king pin back.

I'm not sure if this should be thought as or said as if it is the greatest invention even I'm not fan of some of independent both the kind of cross if it is ,free, mas , on, kind of logo or what ever strange or crusader remind me of some bad part of history while we in west are quick to see other religion as either less civilised or even see some as more violent when our own present and past politic .is full of violence and control economic control of less strong countries that we benefit alot from. Also attitude of punk rock kind of stuff not promote best good lifestyle for good future and thinking of good way of living while still skating and keep good and strong , pujm rock destroy all everything one self attitude all way like smoking l, drinking all, drugs end like punk rock alcoholic or coke weed head, wasted thing as is bad I dont agree and am not happy for which is too much part for some part of people in skate culture, ( even tho if course not all) all this said to independent turns good and I in general like how they skate just crooked grinds I think I remember and got impression that i like venture, for invention to say about this I dont think one can necessarely say it as biggest invention new things since 20 years have been different models (stages) of independent and new adding to trucks for different kinds here is examples : independent hollow kingpin and same also with hollow axles czme to be and now also more expensive but what I heard about as to sound like nice trucks with titanium axles also not to forget hollow trucks you can get normal model and forged (more light than normal) badeplate model. But yes I would have wished this inverted king pin would have come earlier but I remember I used to know one who had old grindking who I think had problems with keeping them hwo he wanted them I think they did loose them self I can't remember if it was grindking trucks them selves of grindking kingpins he had installed that was having issues like this,

This was standard 20 years ago. But from what I heard, they stopped doing this because the weak point of a kingpin is the thread. And as the thread goes through the baseplate it means less flex, so if the kingpin come to break, the threaded part is what will break. While if you have the hard part through the baseplate, it should be more solid. But like, grade 8 kingpins are quite solid these days so it's nice they bring it back.

I use to buy inverted kingpins early 2000 for my Indy's and what ever I was riding. It was easyer to hammer in a bolt with a broken kingpin. A few pros and cons but as truck companys changed the bottom of the kingpin and I couldn't find inverted K.P I just did what every one else had to do. A grind the nut and K.P. Due to covid it hard to get newer skate stuff in Australia. I assume it's the same everywhere. I'm wanting to get Krux hollow downlow kingpins and fit them to my Indy's and thunders. As the nut is only just in the way. For smiths on parking blocks.

I ride tight trucks so when I tightened them the kingpin was trying to push through the board. Replaced the bushings with the hard ones and they helped a bit. Then as you grind them, sometimes the allen gets stripped but that's what the nut shape is for! ...until the bushings are so tight they bulge around the actual nut. Damn. But ppl don't usually run into my challenges.

Grind King has been making this type of truck for over 20 years and I been riding Indy's w/ Grind Kings ever since. The way you convert them is buy hitting the king ping out the old Indy truck then put the Grind King in and tight w/ a flathead screw driver. The problem w/ this method if ur trucks r to tight u have to take the truck off and re-tighten it and put it back.

Bit old, but always new for someone.. the reason you might not get trucks tight enough, is because that inverted kingpin runs out ot threads. Mids has orginally orange, medium bushings and lower one seems to be slightly thinner than the red ones I bought as replacement. Have one old pair of indys from early 2000, had to replace kingpins back then, used standard kingping inverted, just hammered the nut into socket on those baseplates. And it worked all just well. Those old hexhead kingpins had a lot longer threads than these new inverted ones.

might try the mid pro hollows, Been trying some 6.1 ventures one some shaped boards and the 159 standards are starting to feel heavy when going back. Going to have to try some harder bushings on the mids to get them to feel tighter or how i ride the 159 standards w.o having to worry about tuning the mids nut too much, Or indy conical bushings possibly w.o a bottom washer etc. To lower the nut clearance more but keep a good ride.

Man when I was a kid and much lighter I just skated. Now that I know more and pay attention to things a lot more my OCD took over. I'm so used to counting treads on my kingpin to make sure both trucks are tightened the same. This would be my double check when I lost track of how many turns I made to tighten everything to my liking. With the Inverted Kingpins now how am I going to double check. I guess I'm going to have to count the turns. Also has anyone swapped the cushions on these Indy Mids? Was it a pain? Is it compatible with the Indy conical bushings? Being a heavier rider I almost always switch to the 94 duro cushions or the 96 duro cushions from the get go.

Little while later I took the trucks off and had these two rings grooved into my deck from the bolt haha.

My inverted kingpin has this funky smell and started burning 😫

My question is: On the krux dlk trucks the kingpin is inverted but because it’s not pressed in like normal kingpins it has this little wiggle spot where your truck moves but you don’t turn. Is it the same or is the nut snug in the base plate to keep the kingpin from moving and giving it that “dead zone” is what I like to call it. I love the way indys turn and feel so I’m kinda on the fence about buying them

Maybe try harder bushings instead. The inverted kingpin might be smashing into ur board if you tighten too much

I still think Royal's Mike Mo truck is superior, much lighter weight if you're between 100 to 170 pds. If you're a big dude I would suggest these. For a look at who started Inverted kingpins, check out RadRat's Grind King video.

These Indy Mids come in at 10g HEAVIER than their equally sized standard counterparts...all because of an in verted kingpin with arguably shitty clearance...

Yeah agree, was inverting king pins in the 90's stopped the Ni-lock nut from wearing down. Grind kings Allen key King pins are still the best. Sorry indy but nah

Yep it's a rip off, they stole the idea of Grind King and did it worse. Way worse, they didn't really give you that much clearance, they bulked up the hanger so now you can't really lock a grind at all unless you're on a conical and worst of all they weigh a ton. No one is going to skate this garbage after they buy one set
