When you need to replace a brake caliper bracket, you also need to get new guide pins with new bolts and new guide pin boots. Usually the caliper brackets are sold by themselves, just a bare bracket, unless you were to buy a loaded caliper, meaning it will come with a remanufactured bracket, new guide pins, new bolts, and new boots. But most of the time you would only need to replace the bracket, not the caliper.

Not supposed to put grease on the tip of the slide pins it will keep them from sliding in all of the way😊

Don't know about your vehicle, but my 2002 S-10, original equipment brake caliper brackets, I'm assuming they're AC Delco, have small pin holes on the backside of the brackets for air and grease, if too much is applied, to escape from each of the slide bolt chambers preventing any type of seating problems. The holes are approximately .010 in diameter and are countersunk.

pretty sure the flats on the pins are channels allowing grease flow.

Does Autozone show it in the picture or list it in the worded description?

@15:08 I see you applied Blue Threadlocker on those mounting bolts? I put a Blue Thread Locker on that job like a 1.5 years ago, everything was good, no problems w/breaks. I see in many film people use Blue TL on those attaching Brake Bracket-to- Knuckle bolts. But now I did smth else on suspension and needed to remove the Brake Bracket again. When I looked to double check the torque and everything in Shop Manual for our 2001 Saturn SL2 (I have one), they say there to apply Heat 272 Loctite or equivalent. And if you don't have that Red Loctite, you need to replace the attaching bolts. Of course it is advice for a shop w/unlimited access for the bolts of that type and everything, and they are very precise (supposed to be of course). But why everyone applied Blue, as Shop Manual says Red? That what puzzled me. This is full Saturn Shop Manual 2000-2001 S-series, very detailed, 3 huge volumes (4-5 different books inside of each volume, put together w/binder), thin strong paper like papyrus. I'm confused on all that. If I apply Red, will I be able to brake those nuts w/huge breaker bar, or heat would be needed? It is not a problem to apply heat of course, but there are CV Axle Boots there close by, I even don't know. And again, everyone applies Blue: you, The Mech a nic, Chris Fix, many others. I would appreciate any opinion on this matter. Thank you for the great film.

Red Locktite would need torch to remove. Blue is medium, red is high strength.

@olenaerhardt7725 Год назад
@@hurricanedigital I know, but what they recommend in Shop Service Manual (it is for 2001 Saturn SL2 to be specific) is Red, that is the thing. I assume, you use that special flame protective cloth on rubber hoses around to remove that Red next time, if you follow that Manual by letter. But here is the question how many shops will use that cloth and torch to remove the bolts, with their level of negligence ...

My 2002 S-10 used red and I was able to remove with a breaker bar, but if you need to use heat and are concerned about heat buildup not remaining localized and affecting the boot, I would suggest using a mini torch.

@olenaerhardt7725 5 месяцев назад
@@deependz3231 Thank you very much, I didn't know about mini torch, I'll check on that, definitely get one. I've heard that if you apply Red, and then remove without heat you can break the bolt, or smth else. Probably depends on the amount of red applied. I think I'll go in the future w/Blue, but thank you again for the explanations. It is important for me to know what they mean in my Shop Manual for 2001 Saturn SL2, when advise to apply Red. before it was a mystery for me, how to remove then.

Does anyone want to tell him not to put the grease on the flat end of the pins? Anyone else cringe at that? NO! Don't push that little bit of excess grease into the bracket. Ugh.
