In todays video, Joe quickly shows you how to adjust and let out your dipsy diver when trolling for Great Lakes salmon. They can be a little tricky to figure out, but if used properly they definitely are an awesome way to get your bait down to where the fish are at! As always thanks for watching and we hope to see you soon.

I didn’t finish this vid originally because I listened to all the haters in the comments. But after watching several vids on dipsy divers, I realized every single youtuber had a different rod, different line, and different leader length spacings on the rig (from the dipsy to the lure). EVERYONE has a different layout! Fact is: If its wrong and it works, it isnt wrong! Tight lines fella’s!!

Appreciate it Daren. Over the years we have tried so many different setups and are constantly changing our rigs. This works for us and hopefully people who watch this can at least take away something from it. 👍

Respectfully you need to take a trip with a good Charter captain and learn from the pros before giving wrong info with a RU-vid video. Snubbers are designed to be run behind the dipsy to take up the shock of the strike due to the lighter leader line. Also words of wisdom… trash that mono and run the Bloodrun or Torpedo wire line. Your catch rates will go up, it cuts through the water better and way less prone to break offs. Tight lines man and take the constructive criticism from others without being defensive.

So when he catches fish on this setup, are the fish doing it wrong too?

Is there only 1 size dipsy divers? Are there different sizes for dipsy divers? So you control the depth by just letting that amount of line out? Do you like them better then the deep six divers? Thanks
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
1 is the most commonly used size but they make them in others such as size 0 which is a bit smaller than the 1. The smaller the diver, the more line you need to let out to get to your desired depth. Realistically you only need size 1’s and you can let them out different amounts so that they each sit a different depth. We like them better than Rapala deep six divers because you can angle them to run out the port or starboard of the boat, whereas I don’t think the Rapala divers have that option

Snubber goes in front .....then the dipsy diver .....then can I tie a Rapala on the end and fish that way?

It comes down to personal preference. We now run snubbers behind the dipsy but you can definitely put lures behind them for walleye and other species

Bro, Snubber goes on back.
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
Maybe if you payed attention you would’ve heard me explain that is how you should do it but we prefer putting it in front as we are still able to pop the diver with no issue.

Setting out works better if you turn away from your lure, not into it. Turning into it will bring it to your other rigs as you let out.

Yes I like to make sure we are headed in a straight line while letting out my lines to make sure I don’t get any tangles especially with leadcore and dipsys

Hey brother the size 1 dipsy does it go deeper than 70ft??
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
Couldn’t tell you personally as we’ve never tried to set it out that deep. Theoretically if you let it out 300ft with an o-ring it should, but there might be a max depth as I’ve never seen 70ft on the charts they give you.

@@JKFishingYt thank you!!! what feet of water do u sully fish this time of the year. is the deep water still good or you go shallower this time.of the year.
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
Depends on what you want. Staging kings are right by river mouths, mostly even within casting distance of piers and harbors. If the king bite is slow, you can always head out to 300+ fow and get good numbers of rainbows and two year kings.

@@JKFishingYt awesome!!! thank you!!!! I want to try the deeper water. how many ft do usually put your bait down, my boat don't have fish finder which I have to get next year
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
Usually we fish the top 60ft out that deep as it gets too cold deeper, however it pays off to have a downrigger or wire dipsy down past 100ft in case there is a big dormant king that deep.

Would these work for trolling for stripers
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt 5 месяцев назад
they should, we don't fish stripers but if it is the same or similar idea and setup as we use for salmon then theoretically it should work

Whst sort of speeds you gotta be doing
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt 2 месяца назад
You can run them at speeds anywhere from 1.3-3.5mph. Should be a chart on the package showing different depths at different speeds
@rjay2012
@rjay2012 Год назад
how far do you let it out
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
Depends on what depth you want to reach…check the sheet that comes with the diver, it should have a chart that shows how far it dives based on how much line you let out (it will also depend on what line you use). As a rule of thumb though, we find that setting it out 100ft makes it dive 30ft, 150ft makes it dive 50, and 180-200ft is around 60ft (keep in mind we are running mono, so braid would dive deeper at those lengths).

@rjay2012 Год назад
@@JKFishingYt thank you never tried!!!! a dipsy before but will do it this week!!! I'm using 40pd braided line. so if I want to go 60ft I have to release it around 180ft
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
Sounds about right as 40lb braid has the same diameter as 20lb mono. Good luck out there!

If I were looking for GOOD info on dipsy fishing I would look elsewhere this dude is a lot backwards on his set up. Will it work, yes it will but not very efficient. Snubber should be on the back of dipsy, try tripping it with 200' of line out and that snubber. He should also have his long line rod on the front of the trolling bar not at the back, you have to go around the long line to center up a rigger or dipsy hit??
@JKFishingYt
@JKFishingYt Год назад
So as we stated in the video, yes we know that the snubber SHOULD be behind the dipsy and that especially with mono out that far it makes it hard to pop. Secondly, the long line rod is at the back because we have no extra holders to put it in and like to have our dipsy's spaced far from our riggers. It does make it harder to grab a rod when it pops but that is just what we do. Next time before you make a comment like this, you have to understand where we are coming from and then you can correct us.
