Big thanks, ETA! I'm loving my Shield because it's more versatile than any of the Android consoles/set tops and with Retroarch, its all the more sweeter!
Sorry your sick hope you get better soon I have a H96 Max and was looking for part four of your review. I need help getting Dolphin and ppsspp running on it.
Awesome tutorial once again ETA! I've had my shield collecting dust since it was on sale for $149 with controller before xmas. I'd really love you to do a vid on setting up Hyperspin for the shield! Don't know if that's asking too much but it's really intimidating and I just can't find a good tutorial of how to do it. There's just tons of people showing off their builds though...If you could shed some light on this it would be awesome (especially how to do the snaps/wheels with an external HD and how to add/remove wheels we don't want)Thanks in advance ETA! Keep up the greatness!
@ETA PRIME DUDE i love your videos! really great stuff! your truly are the Retro King of RU-vid! can we possibly get a an up to date version of your Dolphin emulator settings for Nvidia shield TV?? as i have just bought one and it runs like crap on my 2017 shield! im trying to run Wind Waker and metal gear Solid Twin snakes on the newest build of Dolphin but no matter what settings i try it keeps stuttering and gets massive frame dips in any action scenes! all tuts on google are outdated and dont work for me. cheers and keep up the good work!
Hi ETA Prime. Always appreciate your helpful videos. I'm wondering if this process would be pretty much the same for Android TVs made by Sony, Hisense, etc. (with the exception of the need to connect a controller of course).
I love my Shield TV. I bought mine when they first came out. My only regret is i wish i would have bought the one with the 500gb internal hard drive but being able to use USB 3.0 external storage makes that a moot point anyway. And i'm sure I could map network shares to it just like I do for Kodi. It's an amazing box that keeps doing everything I could ask of it. And like you I use mine daily for media.
Great tutorial!!! What would be the best way to handle roms that are on the thumb drive but aren’t showing in retroarch? Altered beast is one of my favs and it also happens to be one not showing up!!!
Thanks, this video helped me a lot. But im having trouble with Pc Engine CD, Retroarch only recognizes regular card games, but not the CD ones, i have added the systemcard3 bios into the system folder inside retroarch, but it doesnt work, the games happens with Sega CD Games, only difference is that Retroarch recognizes the games.
Great instruction video, thanks! I installed the C64 core and scanned for games, but after scanning no icon is added to the top menu of Retroarch. For NES and SNES it worked fine. What could be wrong?
Great video, works like a treat. Can't wait to play the old Speccy games. I have a question though; I use a keyboard on the Shield, USB Stick for the roms and i also have a USB retro Arcade Stick. I don't want to keep unplugging the keyboard to use the stick, can i buy any USB 3.0 Hub to use as it's Android?
What do you use for N64 and Neo-Geo/MAME? Can you go through setup for those specifically? I find Neo-Geo/MAME difficult to deal with and I have tons of ROMs for both to play. Playstation 1 would be nice too.
I used a third party app for N64 emulation, but it has those annoying black outlines for the textures and I don't know of any other alternative for N64 emulation. I also tried Gamecube emulation and yet despite being told Dolphin was supported, I couldn't find it or any other alternative anywhere on the device through searching on the app store. ePSXe I think is usable for PS1 games though.
Mame2003 (as an example) uses mame romset 78. This might be your issue. Mame2010 uses mame romset 138. The neogeo.zip likely has subtle changes between the different versions of mame. Just trying to help. I know your comment is a year old-but I figured I'd comment anyways.
every time i find a new job for my raspberry pi i find out the nvidia shield does it much better (obviously) but it is fun learning on the raspberry pi first. Might continue using the raspberry pi for nes, snes, genesis, neo-geo and maybe use the shield for N64, gamecube, wii, ps2, xbox. time to do some research :)
I like the mame (arcade) altered beast better. But Golden Axe has a very charming version for genesis (the battle mode where you can face consecutive enemies). Make sure you play Super Mario on 2600 (it is called princess rescue), you might find it cute. Look up Dintar's pac-man also (Atari age).
Is there any way possible you could do a video with the best settings configuration in retroarch(N64,PS2,PSP,Dolphin) for Pascal GPUs I have an I7-7700HQ and a GTX1060 and can't get the best performance in Launch box. Really appreciate what you do thanks
So if you want to remap do you need a keyboard? I cant get anything to remap using just the controller. Also would love a vid to show how to setup MAME, what a pain that is to setup on retroarch!! still havent worked out everything. How do you get custom bezels per core, per game? how do i add my own bezels?
Do you have any experience with getting Retroarch to work well through Gamestream? I've set up Gamestream to play BigBox through my Shield and all emulators work pretty well, except I get a flickering effect when playing anything through Retroarch. Thanks for all of your how to vids!
Thank you for the video! Very easy to follow the only trouble I have had is the setting for menu toggle is in a separate sub menu now. I have had another problem with Snes roms not showing up any ideas? I have about 150 roms only about 20 showing up. You said you wouldn't use RetroArch for say N64 or some other systems. Why is that? Do you prefer individual apps for various systems or RetroArch as a one for all?
Love your videos and posts. Because of them I purchase an Nvidia Shield 2017 16GB. Came with 2 gamepads, the remote and the Samsung Smart Things Adapter for $135 in eBay. I thought it was a good deal. I bought it mainly for emulation. I installed RetroArch but am not able to play two player. At one Point Player one and Player 2 were controllled by the same gamepad.....HAHA. That made Contra Interesting. Do you have a guide on how to setup RetroArch for 2 players, or is the some secret I am missing? Just became a $5 Patreon Member, thanks for all you do!
really detailed.. thank you ... my problem is when i downloaded it ... the remotes are not working so i cant access the retroark menu to set it up .... i read in internet majority had similar problem and still didnt manage to solve it .... any ideas?
On an unrelated note, have you seen anything about this nesmaker program that's being kickstarted? It's not out yet, but I wonder what you think of something like it.
Hi Etaprime, I have 2 buffalo controllers , how do I get them both to work? Only one works and the shield controller. I can't seem to figure out how to tell it to use both usb controllers. (they both work the buffalo controllers but when I'm in the game only one buffalo and a shield controller works the other buffalo controller doesn't)
On the nvidia retroarch video you made almost a year ago you said to use different cores and format sd cards in fat32 among other things. What changed?
I have a big request; how to install Sega CD, PC Engine CD, and Neo Geo CD games on retroarch via the Nvidia Shield. Where do you put the bios files to read?
Did you make a video on how to download and play wii u games on a samsung galaxy yet? If not can you do that for me please because I tried download wii u games on there but I didn't have internet connection.
Can you show how you get the Arcade Old School emulator like Mame working with the joypad and exit keys and running roms. None of the Cores of mame support the classics like Galaga etc.
thank you for the tutorial. I have an issue with mapping an action key. Сan you tell me how to do it right? in the game Chip and Dale - the character can pick up an apple or a box - what menu item is responsible for this action? Its not a select or Start. Not A,b,x,y.
I can’t get reicast or retroarch or anything to play Dreamcast games and I’m about to smash the shield with a hammer. I want to play Tokyo xtreme racer 2 lol. Happy chick doesn’t have the buttons working either and can’t program. Plz any help appreciated.
Do I need to leave the flash drive plugged in or can I copy these roms to the Shield? After I disconnected the flash drive none of the games would work anymore.
Please help me out, Im on shield tv, everything is working except downloading thumbnails, it gets to 4% then hits 0 for a couple sec then its done, no boxart visible, yes the boxart thumbnail is enabled in the appearance menu, internet wifi is also working. I managed to download thumbnail zip file for the Sega Megadrive and sony playstation, Is there a way to install this zip file directly in retroarch on my shield tv ?
Can you do a video of running and setting up 2 controllers on retroarch. I have 2 controllers paired and only can get 1 player to work, it is very annoying
Cool video bro. Would there be any advantage if i copied the ROMs to the internal storage before? Instead of using an external USB drive. (And is it possible?) Android/Shield newbie here :)
Hey how’s it going I got one of these made with about 4tb of games on an external harddrive. Played fine for a long time and having issues playing the games again games show up on the shield but says there’s no games there any help would be appreciated
