HOW to SETUP the Halo Collar Fence - Walking
The new and improved Halo 2 collar has some excellent upgrades to specifically address customer feedback about the original Halo collar. These improvements include a much more rugged collar with a Pro-case that can withstand chewing and harsh terrain, as well as better location accuracy, cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, and battery performance.
For our family, we have two properties and visit other homes with our dog. The flexibility of setting up digital fences on the fly was a key selling point. It doesn’t matter if we visit our cottage, go RV camping, take a hike at a local park hike, or boating. It's a great tool to include our dog allowing her the independence and boundaries needed to be safe.
Setting up your Halo Collar for your house, farm, hike, or a visit to somewhere new that is unfamiliar to a dog is pretty simple and intuitive. You can do this through the APP, or by manually walking the fence boundary you want your dog to be in.
In this video, I will set up the fence line of my yard by walking the boundary I want her to be in. I use the app to set up and mark each point fence post, and then after making any adjustments I want to shift.

In my experience the Halo Collar's advanced GPS/GNSS system is accurate. It uses the latest geolocation technology and is more accurate than your smartphone. Halo Fences are not created using a wire, so they can't be cut or damaged, and the fence doesn't need to be installed underground making it suitable for virtually any type of terrain.
The Halo dog collar gives you
Ability to set up to 20 virtual fences by walking the boundary or via the map in the Halo app (iOS app | Android app)
Customizable feedback to keep your dog in bounds: vibrations, sound, and static
GPS tracking keeps tabs on your dog’s location, even if he goes beyond your set boundaries
Encouragement feedback feature to guide your dog back home
A built-in activity tracker keeps track of the number of walks your dog takes, time spent active vs resting, etc.
Since there is no need to bury wires, this collar is suitable for virtually any type of terrain.
Collar provides a number of different feedback mechanisms that can help to keep your dog safe while also working as an excellent training tool.
The built-in app is very easy to use and has a host of features that will change the way that you care for your dog.
The collar is easy to adjust and fits on most dogs, making it a great choice no matter your dog’s breed or age.

My Halo just arrived and I was looking to find help setting up and training my 6 mo old Shepherd mix. I like what you've done with your videos. Curious if you researched the plans and which one you use A, B, or C. Thanks! Looking forward to getting my system up and running.

Yes, I recommend the gold plan to start (3 months) - but it's totally up to you. The reason for this is it gives you full access to any troubleshooting, training help, and resources so you can get started and settled in. Once you are feeling confident about your dog transitioning to the collar and having success - and you understand how the collar works - and how to troubleshoot it ... go to the simple plan. I just think in the beginning that a support system is super important. (just my opinion)

I think you are referring to support. When getting started, I recommend a higher level of support till your dog is trained, that way you have full access then downgrading once you feel comfortable.

Looking at getting a GPS dog collar looking at the halo and spot on. First question how many Fences can you make on each one and is there a size limit. What age do you recommend starting a dog GPS collar.
@KarmaDogSpeak
@KarmaDogSpeak Год назад
Hi Jan, sorry I missed this. I think a good age is about 6 months, but it depends on the dog. for the Halo, I think the total is 20 fences and the SpotOn 10.

@@KarmaDogSpeak so the fence must be closed? I mean obviously yes but i was thinking of starting on one edge of the back of the house and ending on the other back edge. Do you think that would work or would make it so your ending point circled back to your beginning point to “close” it.

Hi Andrea - while you don't have access to it there do you have access to it anywhere else? As long as you can set it up with wireless the map will store in the collar when you go into a remote location.

How does the beacon work?
@KarmaDogSpeak
@KarmaDogSpeak Год назад
Essentially it’s a puck that emits a signal. Where you place a puck it can provide feedback to an area. It works in a circle shape from the center.
@debfrazier3899
@debfrazier3899 2 года назад
We have set our fences. calibrated, and walked the fence lines. However, when and where it signals isn’t consistent. As of now we are simply teaching the pups if you hear a beep return to safety. But this is confusing when the alerts are not consistent. We killed the app, turned off the collar, recalibrated and I still can’t understand and the alert. So, I am wondering do I need to turn the collars off and on before putting them on the pups? Do I need to do this everyday/time? This hasn’t to be easier!
@KarmaDogSpeak
@KarmaDogSpeak 2 года назад
No … you’ve got the right idea … the signal will “drift” and feel inconsistent but focus on teaching that “sound cue” … its more confusing for us (humans) but all you want them to know is “sound” = return

Can you have a dog door for your house and still set up the fence outside so they can go in and out?
@KarmaDogSpeak
@KarmaDogSpeak Год назад
Yes, absolutely - if you see my videos this is the setup we use for Vivi (mainly when it's dry out) - it's just a mesh door that she can pass in and out of. I will say, that the SpotOn does tend to have interference but it is a better fit for Halo
@annasullivan4719
@annasullivan4719 2 года назад
Is there a way to set up a fence only for our backyard, running each end of the fence up to the sides of the house?
@KarmaDogSpeak
@KarmaDogSpeak 2 года назад
You would have to test it and may have some weird results if the spaces between the homes are narrow. I know I have figured out how to cut through the middle of my neighbor's house on one side (don't worry doesn't affect my neighbor and he knows) and have tweaked it over time. However, it isn't recommended to go over large buildings as you may get some interference. For us, it's been reliable, but every situation/space I would assume is different and of course, we're all in different places physically with different GPS satellite connectivity... but give it a try and be patient testing it and fine-tuning it.
@annasullivan4719
@annasullivan4719 2 года назад
@@KarmaDogSpeak Thanks for the reply. I am on the first day training with the actual beacon and the beacon doesn’t work right at all. It’s not quick enough to give feedback. I can literally hold the collar right over it and it doesn’t even give a warning. After a good 10 seconds it might beep, might vibrate. How can I train my dogs to the fence if the beacon training won’t even work? I went ahead and set up a fence outside using the collar. I then walked it myself to make sure the collar was responsive with feedback. That seemed to work fine. Anything I can do to make the beacon work better?
@annasullivan4719
@annasullivan4719 2 года назад
