Fantastic tutorial with the right amount of detail - all other videos I have come across are far too vague. I actually feel confident to do this now! Thank you!
Great demonstration of grading and understitching. Once again Lucy has explained things super clearly and demonstrated clearly as well. Thank you so much - I am quite an experienced sewer but have been making much more professional garments with Lucy's help. I realise just how much I have to learn - don't we always. ?
At last! Clear and detailed instructions and explanation of a procedure by someone who admits they have made mistakes in the past (and learned by them) and does not make the viewer feel like a numpty for having to reach for help (and does not speak in a smarmy American accent!) Thank you Lucy and SewEssential. Chrissie Burt.
Understitching always confused me when I see it in pattern instructions - I always have to rethink which layers I’m to sew together, lol this video is a great reference for whenever I have to re-learn. Thank you!
This tutorial shows very detailed construction with lots of trimming, which is so helpful. Do you have an understitching tutorial for the neckline facing? I understitched a neckline facing and it doesn't sit as flat as I would like.
Lucy - great tutorial. Am i right that it's better to understitch before pressing? I noticed that you did this but didn't explain why. I'm sure that I've heard somewhere that the understitching helps you press the edge more neatly. Or is there another reason?
Thank you so much Lucy, I really really enjoyed watching you show the under stitches. What stitch length did you use" Please stay safe and well too xxx m
This is definitely a topic that is debated. I prefer not to press before understitching because the gentle pulling of the fabric and stitching does the work for you and then you can press once completed. I've heard of tutors at the London College of Fashion recommending this approach too and it has always worked beautifully for me. If you prefer to add an additional pressing stage in between that's fine too, it's a matter of personal preference I guess. TFS.
