Sweet, it’s fun to shape Donald T taught me a few things when I was 13 we used cardboard Transferred that to wall panel, made nose and tail on opposite sides of template, adjust as necessary to get the outline he taught me to cut bottom side up always leave the pencil line on the lines disappear. You got it in the bag Measure twice cut once always make sure that that is the process we used a batten get the radius on panel and notched for adjustment necessary to slip the template for width and length

Hey, what do you think about getting an old longboard or even a fish or something to ,,reshape,, the board to an oldnew surfboard, i mean as long as the foam is still in good and dry condition. Because I looked up some blanks and they can get pretty expensive, especially when you are still at the begging of the shaping journey.😅😅 I would like to hear your opinion!

Love the glue with ramboard method, gonna use it next time. What do you use to clean the glue from the board?

If the board is a sanded finish I’ll usually sand the glue off with 320 sand paper then finish the board with green scotchbight pad and water. I’m sure acetone on a rag would work as well. Just be careful not to use acetone on an epoxy board. I’m also not 100% sure how it dose on gloss finishes.

hey love the vids man, I was wondering if I don't have physical access to a board to get dimensions how should I go about getting the correct board outline?

Download the free version of shape 3D on your computer. Put the dimensions of the board into the program when you are starting a new file. Adjust the file to look as similar as possible to the board you are looking to copy. I think you can also upload a photo of a board onto shape 3D or a similar program that will generate a file based off the photo. I might make a video on this in the future. Hope that helps

Thank you for this video!! What do you mean by “my dimensions” - you figured out over time that a 6’10” board is what you like to surf? Or is is a height weight combo thing

I dont shape but ive bought a lot of boards over the years and I imagine it means like, u buy enough boards and eventually find out the dims u personally like to ride i.e., for specific shapes I know what LxWxT I enjoy the best / surf the best

The comment above is spot on with your question. I have come to love boards that are 6’10 for big waves. The 18” width and 2 1/4 thickness are the same dimensions I use when shaping similar boards and find they work well with my height and weight.

Is it ok to outline the board that you like directly onto the blank?

No, the outline will not come out good if you do that. The board slides and wobbles around too much.
