It is described in detail how to properly sharpen the cutting cutter, so as not to reduce its strength and facilitate the movement of the chip output.
The classic factory sharpening of cut-off cutters on the side surfaces with a narrowing in length and height leads to a strong thinning of the tool body in its lower part, which reduces its strength and can lead to its breakage. On the shown cutter with such sharpening, the cutter's body is thinned 2 times (from 4 millimeters to 1.8 millimeters)
To reduce this thinning, it is proposed to sharpen the cutting cutters not on the side of the abrasive wheel, but on its diameter.
The classic factory sharpening cut-off incisors on the front surface is made along the cutting edge. At the same time risks from grinding turn out across the direction of the movement of shaving. This complicates its movement on the front surface of the cutter.
It is proposed to sharpen the front surface of the cutting cutter so that the axis of rotation of the abrasive wheel is parallel to the cutting edge. With such a grinding, the direction of the grinding risk will coincide with the direction of the exit (movement) of the chip. This facilitates the exit (movement) of chips on the front surface of the cutter from the cut groove.
