I love my safety razor for the head shave. I always do my shave in the shower, and always strap it counter edge against a piece of denim. Rinse it sterile in alcohol and dry. The blades stay sharp, sterile, and last twice as long.
Russell Bogrett as a 10+ year DE shaver, I just started shaving my head with them. Preparation and technique is key. After a few times, it gets easier and I experiment with different combos of shave creams/soaps and blades to get a comfortable and smooth shave.
Tried shaving my head with a safety razor for the first time aaaaannd a few nicks here and there, although I didn't feel them at all. Never had such a smooth head shave before. Usually I use a cartridge and it just pulls the hair out, leaving it itchy and annoying. Not with the safety razor, it was smooth as butter. Sure I need to practice shaving my head with it, but it wasn't half bad for my first time.
@@Rainaman- Reinis Miks Yep, used cartridges. My hair was slightly shorter than the gent in the video. Was using Weishi Nostalgic razor with the razor blade it came with. Blade wasnt really sharp (may have just been a blade from a bad batch?) that caused me to put too much pressure....bad mistake. Even with using a preshave cream/oil I still got cut pretty good. After getting blades from Shaving Revolution and practice little to no nick's. Eventually canceled my DSC subscription. Almost a year later I switched to Merkur Slant 39c and got a blade sampler pack. I'll get one or two cuts a month but not bad enough to use my styptic pens that's still in its package. Dont see myself going back to cartridges any time soon unless the current apocalypse leads us to a Mad Max type world. I really do enjoy wet shaving as it's almost therapeutic. This vid, Razor Emporium and kensurfs channel was a big help to correct my mistakes. Sorry for the long winded message but dont want you or anyone to do what I did wrong. Hope this helps, I believe in you!
@@antfazo4783 Weishi Nostalgic and the free blade it came with. Blade seemed dull, I applied too much pressure. I french fried when I should have pizza'd had a bad time lol
Back in the late 70s,I used a sharpened butter knife to shave my head. Ive had a knack for sharpening any kind of blade. I had no knicks or irritation. NOW,I bought a double edge safety razor yesterday, and I didnt know I had to be prepped for Hara Kiri. I had more knicks than the New York basketball team. Guess it will take better prepping.I only had beard balm to use as a prep.
Wow, this was a very unsafe loading of a DE aka Double Edge razor I have ever seen at beginning of video. First of all you should get into the habit whether loading or unloading the blade, holding it by the sides and never the the front where the blade sticks out. It's Such and easy way to get a nice deep slice requiring stitches. Always and I mean always, Hold the DE Razor by it's side of the cap. Like you mentioned after you loaded the blade. Besides that. Nice shaving video. Thanks for sharing.
@@Rainaman- you could always start using a cheap double edge razor like a Wilkinson sword. And there are mild one you can use. But I don't normally recommend cartridge razors. Also taking a warm shower will help open the poors and will give you a clean close shave. And also your skin will be prepared also pre shave oil is a Good option to use as well that will help you avoid cuts.
Ralph Toribio bro I said the same thing, but to my surprise my hair came out buttery smooth with no pressure at all and this is me in the video by the way 👌🏻
I don’t know you, just scrolling around looking for information on head shaving with a safety razor. I have frizzy hair, and whenever I shave it , I got razor bumps, on the back of my head. After trying a lot with cartridge blades, I stopped and just trim it with a trimmer. Is a safety razor, the solution for us, balding frizzy hair guys?!
The blades can be stopped to perfection again. They even used to sell machines for this, but I thing free hand will do fine. I won't bother anymore since they're so cheap when I buy NOS.
Transitioning from a cartridge razor to safety razor for the beard went pretty well, but first try on the head wasn't very successful, finished off with a cartridge razor. I guess I need a lot more practice on the head. No knicks though... also finding the right blade for you takes some tries. Had some very aggressive ones, some are more forgiving.
I have shaved my head with safety razors (astra, derby, feather), gillette fusion, match 3, wilkinson xtreme 3 and I can tell you that these last two are the best for a headshave. Safety razors are ok with your face but you need a lot of time for your head and they are the most easy to cut with. So, for your head better use a multiblade.
Does this guy work for Gillette because in my experience this is bs multi blade razors are terrible for doing your head as they are nearly impossible to unclog all the hair out of easily and eventually lose all sharpness until you meticulous scrape all the hair out between the blades
I always get a bloody head when shaving. I use conditioner since can't really afford a shaving cream. I find it really hard to shave the back of the head and near the ears. It also takes me an hour in shaving my head. I must be doing something wrong.
Good shaving products don't have to be expensive. An Arko shaving soap stick will put you back less than $3 and will last anywhere from 6 months to a year. You can get a Yaqi synthetic shaving brush from $7 up on AliExpress and it will last a lifetime. Give them a try - you'll be amazed!
be careful with going over a spot multiple times like that. will cause irritation. I would try using a better soap and prep. I could suggest some really good shave soaps and brushes.
So much incorrect information it hurts. Safety razor blades are way cheaper but they don't last anywhere close to as long as a normal razor head. Myself included and most guys in the DE community use blades once or twice MAX before you really start to notice them dull down. Now I haven't used a Gillette razor really ever but I know you get a lot more life out of them then that. Doesn't really matter tho when you can get 100 blades for under $30 shipped.
Agreed. I shave my face and head with a razor once and then I put a new one in. I thought I would get more out of the blade but nope. Doing a 2 pass shave and having coarse hair dulls the blade down pretty fast.
Be very scared. Don't be like Derrick and let the hair get so long. Shaving all that hair will work with a fresh razor not one that has some miles on it, lol. Derrick setting you up to scalp yourself.
@@robertalexander7661 that's great my man! I've been using the safety razor for head shaves for more than a month now, still working on the technique for the closest shave possible! Haven't thought of a straight razor so far, too much maintenance needed lol
@@ekuzo4 I think that's called time, and pacience!!! That my friend we all should know, by now!!! How are you doing with all this stuff that's going around? I hope you and your family are doing well!!!
@@robertalexander7661 all good fam, so far it's all going well. We'll get through this too, ain't nothing worth getting stressed over. Thanks for asking, I appreciate it! How about you? All good? And yes, patience is a virtue - shaving old school helps with that, I find it quite therapeutic actually.
Omni Shaver for the head. Look into it. Nothing beats it and I mean nothing, Lots of guys can get a nice clean bald shaved head in under 1 minute. No safety razor or buzzer will beat it.
