In this video I explain how to shift your pathfinder's transfer case into 4x4 modes: 2H, 4H, 4L. This my 96 nissan pathfinder SE 4x4 equipped with the automatic transmission.
I just bought my pathfinder a few weeks ago and it's got 4x4, ironically I've driven a stick for the last nine years and miss it horribly but I've never had a 4 x 4 so your video is exactly what my pathfinder is.. it's a 2001 with 4 x 4 and now i totally get it ..thx 😁
Thanks bro! Typically you go left or right not down. I looked underneath for rusty linkage and it was clean as a whistle lol. All I was missing was push down. I just bought an 04 and I did test 4H which worked so easy... when N or 4L didn’t work I thought it would be rusty linkage like my cherokee was. I like the pathfinder more and more over my XJ as I learn mow about it.
Very helpful video. Just got myself a 1998 Pathfinder and was grinding when trying to change between 4H and 4L. Transfer case fluid changed and off to test now I know I was doing the correct actions. Looks like I'll be watching the others after :D
@@GomerfromIsaan Cheers man, I did the change from this video and worked a treat. First few times the grind slowly eased off and then it continued for many months driving in the outback of Australia before being sold off to a lovely Aboriginal guy :D Great car that will drive forever
So I just checked out a 1997 Pathfinder yesterday, 1 owner with 124K miles, Carfax says so and maintenance history as well. It was in excellent condition obviously cared for and maintained by the owner. But, I could only pull back and put it into 4L, I can put back to neutral but I could not move it forward into 4H or 2H. And I got a knock sensor code. The dealer bought it at an auction and was selling at $4,500. I would've made an offer but their prices are firm and non-negotiable.
Saxologist something could be jammed as it is mechanically actuated, and the knock sensor is under the intake manifold, not worth 4500 bottom dollar would be 2900
Edgar Acosta de dios not necessarily true, it’s mainly a good idea if your 4x4 system is manually operated, where as electronically actuated it’s more of a shift on the fly kinda deal since their operated by vaccum
on pathfinders as long as youre under a certain speed and not turning unless you absolutely have to then you can go 2h to 4h and no problems but 4h to 4l you cannot. same thing 4h to 2h on a pathfinder just cant go a certain speed in 4h period.
Hi I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra and looks like the same as you pathfinder but I have an issue. When I’m driving on 2H and make a turn my front wheels feels like they’re lock even when nothing appears on the dash, already place 4H and 4L and I can hear when clic in and out but no idea what could be wrong any ideas or suggestions? Could be a transfer case switch not working right ?
in any vehicle with 4h you can engage it while youre moving but you only want to put it in that mode if gonig in a straight line and all wheels moving at the same speed or on a complete stop and never going highway speed. 4L you seriously want to only engage in a dead stop and on sand deep snow and mud.
Hey Nice video I'm going to subscribe to your channel because I have the same car that you have and I might have some issues so I'm going to ask you some questions
Just got stuck in the snow for 3 hours because of this. Just bought the truck as a wheeler here in Oregon and yeah I'm not sure I got the right deal lol
@@BigStubber I live down here in Florida, I run trails in the woods and stuff in my truck. She will get out of the mud in 4H but I tried 4L and it would not shift down to 4L! It sucks but i think it is as simple as a shifter cable.
not necessarily. yes its an open diff but if you engage it in snow and front wheels are not spinning as fast as rear already like on road then you could mash a gear in the tcase. but otherwise you are right
