Just a note: Thatcher Freeman did a recent analysis of DJI drone footage from a variety of cameras. He concluded Dlog-m from different drones was different for each. So using a canon log gamma selection in your IDT may not fit other DJI models. This shot triggered a cherished memory. As a student glider pilot, my instructor and I got caught out near dusk, in a no / marginal lift situation circling a pool. We were visually lower than your drone - low enough for me to recognise the Tony Robbins book sitting on the pool side chair while we were wing down. We made it back to the airfield and made a perfect zero reverse circuit hanger landing.

Interesting - and frustrating if it's actually different between the drones. It doesn't change anything though. The main purpose of this transformation is to get as good a starting point as possible. As neither DJI's or this conversion are perfect, we'll have to apply adjustments afterwards in form of a LUT or by hand. I find that this conversion works just fine across all the drone footage I've tested from both D-LOG and D-LOG M always having to do tweaks. I'll have to go watch that video though to see how big the differences are, as that's definitely interesting to know! Thanks for the note! 🙏🏻

Great first episode! Suggestion/request: could you go through your different export settings for various social media platforms? Probably don’t need to do it every episode but maybe show the channel what your settings are and then create an export preset and just click that to export and finish the video.

Cheers mate! I already have a video on my export settings for Instagram / Social Media. It’s the same settings I use no matter what SoMe Platform it is 😊🙌🏻

Behind the shot - great idea! Will the footage pack be updated with some more footage from the new drone? (And more C-Log soon too 😊)

Thank you Emil! I'm working on updating the Footage Pack, yes! Juggling a million things always but it will happen!

Loving this series so far. Question for you on FPS. I have seen recommendations to shoot in 30 FPS and drop onto a 24 FPS timeline in Davinci. Then, slow each clip by 80% for a smooth and buttery motion. When you say initially that you converted the 60 FPS to 30 FPS, do you mean you just dropped the 60 FPS clips onto a 30 FPS timeline? Thanks again, Alex!

Thank you! My timelines are always in 30 FPS as I often use my content on IG. IG natively transforms any video to 30 FPS (super annoying) so using 24 FPS timelines with IG often makes it laggy. So I just switched fully to 30 FPS always. That's why I convert my footage from 60 FPS to 30 FPS and then add them to my 30 FPS timeline. I'll make sure to include how I do it in Episode 4, which will be the next one featuring the drone :-) But essentially by right-clicking on the clip in your media pool (or having multiple clips selected) and choosing "Clip Attributes" you can change it from 60 FPS to 30 FPS and when you then add the clip to your timeline it'll be slowed down already.

@@AlexBjorstorp Ah, I see now! So correct me if i'm wrong. In theory, you could drop those 60 FPS clips onto a 30 FPS time line without changing them in the clip attributes. But you would then have to slow them down by 50% and "ripple timeline". I just tested it. It makes the clips twice as long without dropping any frames. Obviously, the way I just explained it takes a little more effort, but should result in the same playback... I think? lol Have I lost you yet? Ryan explains exactly what I'm talking about in this video. Smooth and buttery, if your goal is a 24 FPS timeline. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cj1FGnV3b9E.html Anyway, thanks so much for responding Alex. Very cool of you to follow up on these already great videos.

Yes, that's correct! The two most common framerates are 24 and 30. 24 or 25 (depending on where in the world you are), are the classic broadcast and cinema standards, which is why most people still swear to that. I'm sure you know already but essentially it's just translates to either 24 or 30 photos / frames per second, that the camera captures. Now, when you create your timeline you choose how many frames per second it expects. A 24 FPS timeline then expect 24 frames each second. Throwing a 30 FPS clip in there means that there are 6 extra frames every second, which can make the playback look a bit off. The other way around, adding a 24 FPS clip into a 30 FPS timeline, means you're now missing 6 frames every second that'll most likely make the playback jittery and "laggy". Essentially because it's trying to play it but miss 6 frames every second and that's the "lagging" that you're then seeing. Now, if you take a 30 FPS clip and want to add it to a 24 FPS timeline, you can also easily use the Clip Attributes and just change it from 30 to 24. That'll do the same as when you're slowing it down manually but without the need to do so. Essentially it means slowing the clip down by 6 frames every second, so the clip goes from being a second long (30 frames) to 1,25 seconds long (30 frames streched over 24 frames per second). I didn't watch the video that you linked yet, so maybe I just overexplained but I hope it makes sense either way! :-)

What cinema LUT is that? And where can I find that one? It looks so good! at 4:54

It’s my cinematic Classic from my Color Pack. However since then I’ve added 2 new ones to the same pack that works even better 😊

what was the timeline color space you used here?
@AlexBjorstorp
@AlexBjorstorp 4 месяца назад
If I transform to DaVinci Wide Gamut / Intermediate, that’s always the timeline color space I use as well. If not then I usually just keep it at the default setting or rec.709 gamma 2.4 😊
