I love someone being honest with players. Most players want a simple system that don't involve the P word. Watching this video and shooting 50 a day in practice, and applying what you learned is key. If you practice these every day you will become a good banker in a month. Johnny Henson

If you have the cut shot, and you can get position, take the cut shot. If you don't have it, bank that thing. Many top players would play a safe before playing a bank shot, but this video illustrates a good example of where there is no safe, and the bank is the only way to win. Have fun guys.

I built a beautiful pool table room in part of our shop. Complete with new carpet under a 8ft slate table. Practicing daily, and my game is getting better and better and better. Also, thanks to Brian, I don’t mind practicing anymore, because, I see the game of pool getting more fun due to making more shots and being able to move that cue ball around the table like never before. Practice and play makes perfection. Love the FX billiards videos ! Amazing ! Thank u !

Awesome! I'm amazed at how my "sight" has developed using your methods. I can (almost) look at a shot while standing, then settle in and without looking at the pocket put that puppy in. So I'm starting to "believe" in the instinct thing. We play weekly with another couple, and he is (in my opinion) quite good; far better than we are, and his banks are just that; instinct. You can see it. Adding this to my daily practice list! Can't wait! Thanks, Brian! KEEP GOING!!!!!

Bryan I really love how you call a spade a spade. You tell it like it is. I have found the way to make any shot is by consistently practicing the shot. It is amazing how after consistently practicing my bank shot it seems some days I can just look at the table and just bank the shot with no problem.

HAH I’ve been playing pool for 25 years and I’ve never watched a how to video for pool. Funny that this is the first one I watch! Everything I learned about this game has been based off concepts/instinct minus the few cue holding positions I use, those came from pros.

Thank you for teaching this!! Too many people on all the channels believing that a mathematical solution is going to save them im these situations. Not going to happen. It is about practice, practice and practice of the same thing over and over and over. Repetition...that's the secret to pool. Think of Tiger Woods repeating the same shot over and over and over. Or Micheal Jordan !! Everyone wants the easy way to everything. And the elite players never bank anyway. They shape is bang on. They do it only once and awhile .

Second video I have watched today with this man and apologise for not knowing the guys name. I was always a instinctive player when it came to bank shots with likely better than average success, however that was most likely due to natural angle. I play in an Asian pool league 8 Ball on Diamond or Brunswick and then down to ratty table level each week and not knowing just listening I think I would be an AP 4 level perhaps a good one borderline 5. I have watched countless videos using Diamond system and parallel for example but some clear and some confusing. Like spoke about in real world you dont have time for that BS and want get down and play the shot..................Good video thumbs and subscribe..................

You are a very talented pool player. And you have learned pool a certain way over time. The truth is that the mathematical way is a very good way to get that instinct you are talking about. Well when a person who doesn't have the knack you have or a natural at this game. They receive a good starting point. I really have found that the mathematical way has launched me way ahead of others who have taken advantage of this method. I have started to play pool 5yrs ago I'm over 40 years of age. Now those players my age are very good players who like you rely more on instincts. They have told me that I have excelled fast and can actually beat most of them on a regular basis. We usually play to 5. They have told me the same as you have. When they seen me practicing the mathematical way they would laugh and said that when in a game will the balls line up!!! Well more than you think and when they are not based upon what I've learned I can make adjustments and make the shots 50 percent of the time. Now as my instincts are getting better I'm making more off line shots. But IMO the mathematical way is a great foundation to become a great back shot maker without taking decades to aquire the instincts necessary to become proficient. Having played with individuals who haven't used the mathematical way of one rail banks I understand and actually hope that they don't because they would be extremely hard to compete with. Lol so I think that you are not having an open mind as it pertains to the mathematical way. I practice a lot as a result of trying to understand the mathematical way the residual is instincts to handle speed and rail conditions also dirty balls with cling and other factors. The mathematical way has been a way for me to catch up to the more experienced people who started playing decades before myself. Just a thought. Have a great day

Liked ur practical approach. That's how I learned to shoot banks. Recently studied kick and diamond systems that helped with the geometric creativity. Played in my apa match then would find me running math formulas instead of feel and instinct. Mentally will break through this as I get closer to my goal as a horrible player evolving to bad. Lol

I use the diamond system on side rail bank shots and do very well. If my shot is out of line from the diamonds, whether it's going to the corner pocket or side pocket, I use the diamond system while paralleling my stick and hitting english based upon the shot presented. In the most awkward angles and all scenarios, I hit about 90% of my banks. I'm by no means close to where I want to be, but I hit banks consistently that are considered top level banks using what I've been taught by what some may call "my pool mentor". I am a great banker doing what you call bullshit hahaha 😂 Again, I love your videos, love your game and the way you present all of this help is great. Just wanted to say that diamonds and parallel shifting within the diamonds has worked very very well for me and people who thought they banked well have gotten better.

Hi Brian. Love your videos and your teaching style and you are way better than I am, but I would like to say something about "intuitive" banking. Yes this comes after thousands of bank attempts but I find that no matter where my OB is or my cut angle, the first thing I do is find the natural angle for the bank using the diamonds. I then go about intuitively adjusting my angle, speed, spin, follow or draw to whatever varying degree necessary to complete the bank, but I always find the natural bank angle first, or as close as I can to it. I believe using this routine can save beginners hundreds of hours of bank practice while still building an intuitive nature when it comes to fine tuning your banking game.

I doubt anyone will get the connection, but Brian is the Scott Grove of the pool channels. 👍 Scott was one of the original guitar channels. Gave in depth guitar reviews and went on to lessons. He wasn't afraid to mix it up and tell it like it is even if it didn't go along with the conventional. Anyone that actually knows him will think there's a huge difference, because Brian isn't gonna call y'all "retards" and isn't gonna get arrogant haha, but the real world approach is what I'm getting across. Brian, here's a touchy topic that came up one night during a tournament. I'm nervous to say it because people lose their shit when you talk about it (for or against) but Chinese knock off/counterfeit Predator cues. Someone told me to look into the "cool predator knock offs break cues on ebay" because I told them a company has got to be on major drugs if they think I'm spending $500-600 on a break cue.as you would say, that's just a topic to put in your bag and you have it if you need it.
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 4 года назад
Hello your Hotness: Knockoff anything is a bad idea. The reason something is ultra cheep is because....it's ultra cheep. I'v looked at those Chinese knockoff and it looks like they are making the same cheep cue over and over again and making cosmetic changes to look like different high end cues. When you understand what goes into making an OB or Predator high end, low deflection cue, you realize that it can't be made for the price some of those companies are charging. Watches, drones, even designer clothing...the knockoff tend to break down quickly. Rather than buying a KO Predator, buy a legit Players, Lucasi, etc for 1/2 the price. They make nice cues for the price and the company wont be out of business this time next year. Thank you for your kind words and your support of the channel.

Chuck Felton Great point Chuck. I think the best one pocket players might be the best bankers. One pocket is a great game but it gives me a headache. You thinking about position, safety, and banks on every shot. One pocket was popular over 60 years ago because pool halls used to charge by the rack, and a one pocket rack could last for a while. Those guys became great bank shooters.

@@FXBilliards One pocket is alive & well, going stronger than ever (even amongst elite players) and it is involved in the action at all skill levels internationally. Yes there is a tremendous amount of thinking, which is precisely why there is such an appreciation for it... it involves sooo much more than just making balls. Of course there is thinking involved in all disciplines but 1 pocket is a whole different level of cerebral involvement and requires SO much more in order to master it. When banking, I tend to imagine a straight line between the natural bank and the pocket, and pick a spot along that line in my peripheral vision, and aim for that spot, not the pocket itself. Sometimes the whole table is too much to take in. 95% of the time, it works every time. At the very least it will hit an inch shy, and cheat or rattle the pocket.

Im asking because Im shooting with regular Jacoby shaft, it's NOT a low deflection shat and I'm wondering if by going to a carbon fiber my game would get better. Spending close to $500.00 on a shaft hoping and not knowing if it will improve is very concerning. Thanks in advance 👍🏽.

Banks are a mystery, no way to teach them. It's all feel and intuition. But once you get the feel down, your deadly. It really can scare or at least worry your opponent. Banks are awesome for eight ball where you can play one pocket shots. Plug a pocket and hide the cue ball. I know you say plugging a pocket is no good against the better players but if you can hide the cue ball well enough, it works.

Gonna give this series a try, however I play on a British table and the pockets are tight and the rails around the pockets don't filter the ball towards the pocket....most of the shots wouldn't go in if i hit the rail first. American tables leave MUCH more room for error. Nice vid though.

@@FXBilliards Subscribed as soon as I watched the video. I like your style....no bullshit. Diamond systems don't work for me cos there's no diamonds on a British table and as I said the pockets are as tight as fuck. 3 inch pockets. Fucking nightmare.

Do you have any tips on bank shots on object balls frozen on the rail. (Other than don’t try)?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 3 года назад
You need to put enough energy into the shot to compress the rails and allow the cue ball to get out of the way. That one tip helps a lot of players. Hope that helps you.

When you hit the cue ball with top right on that bank shot to get to the 8 do you move the butt of the cue over as well or do you pivot the cue tip to the top right of the cue ball? Thanks for your time
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 2 года назад
I never pivot the cue. Thats a move most players who have been around avoid. Usually its a gimmick taught to give intermediate players an adjustment for swerve and deflections. I would never use it because it is not an intuitive move. So to answer your question, my entire cue is moved to apply english. Thanks for watching and I hope that helps Tony,.

sir, i always hear the phrase "pocket speed" what is pocket speed?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 4 года назад
Eric Kort most common definition is to hit the optic ball only hard enough to reach the pocket and have it fallen. Not too hard or soft but just enough.

That’s like jumping over a stepstool 20 time and then wondering why you can’t dunk a basketball afterwards . You’re about 3000 hours short of being a good bank shooter.
