@Harlan Kendrick lmao used to do demonstrations for people when I did Karate. Stuff like do backflips and weird shit to show fun sparring techniques. Nothing you would ever use in a fight but fun flashy shit. Well I tried doing a flip over somebody and ate it. It was not pretty and in front of a bunch of kids and parents. Good times...
in high school i was on the varsity team but never really took it serious and put in the work. I honestly wasn’t that good either but now that i’m 24, i can actually hoop against bigger dudes in the gyms. I really wish i could go back in time and put in the work and see where it could’ve taken me
True dat. I started playing again at 32 yo after stopping altogether at 19 and I realised how much I've improved in the last 4 years (I'm 36) and how much better I would have been with a different mentality when younger. I had never been a 3 point shooter but now I can and am lethal from corner 3's. I hope my body will let me play at least a portion of the time I missed without hoopin'
these are literally all a waste of time. I see this being taught repeatedly and imo its silly. Shooting on a side of a hoop or on a line does not actually help with the trajectory and mental component needed to hit a shot on a 10 foot rim. I'm gonna write this comment in the hopes that some young guy reads this: Shooting is essentially about ensuring the power comes from your legs. The way to ensure the power comes from your legs is to always move the arms to the pocket slightly before you jump with your legs. This way the power will come as your extending to shoot. The elbow should be tucked in and the wrists should flick towards the rim. The main thing to always remember: Legs (your jump) are what drive the ball, not your arms. The arm and wrist is for aiming and as long as you flick and have the elbow not too flared out it will be on target every time. That's it. Actually once you understand this you dont need to even warm up much. I avg 6 threes a game in my mens league at 32 and I couldnt hit a single three for 10 years before that unless it was in warm ups.
Usually, I start from below the rim doing 3 in a row until I get to the 3 point. It gives me muscle memory on how much range and how much power I need to make the shot from that distance.
Thanks man! I’m 27 and never played organized basketball but am finding peace in shooting hoops at my local park. It’s still great but a little frustrating when I miss a ton of shots and since I never had a coach, I didn’t know about any of these drills. My biggest flaw (in basketball) is how inconsistent my shot placement is (usually wide right) so that first drill is gonna be a game changer in making sure I’m consistently placing the ball in a straight line!
I always go for 10 free throws in a row before even shooting around. Free throws are the most underrated consistency builder for your shot that there is. When you find that release point on your free throw, it stays with you on all of your shota
10 is nice. I make 3 in a row at below the rim and take a step back and continue until I am at the line, then will shot 30 or so (not in a row) then I do around the world, again make 3 from every spot on the key, then I redo that around the world a step back until I finish at the 3. Every now and then in between when my arm is getting tired I make some left hand layups to break up the jump shooting, then when I think I have my shot dialed I will extend it to 3 point line and just try long bombs until my legs can't take it any more. usually like to finish on 2 made baskets in a row to feel good going home.
@@bigdickalo5661 you may not always have a hoop to warm up. It’s just a practice. You’re probably more on line if you hit the line as opposed to being content with making the shot. But it’s mostly for warmups without a rim available.
Those are all fire, I’d like to add that the most important thing with getting your shot right is repping those nothing but net swishes and getting that to feel like walking GREAT STUFF SON🔥
As a shooter, this is great advice about warmup. Personally I like to wake up my shooting muscles by shooting around paint, baseline to fouling line to baseline. Only after that, I shoot some high school threes and nba threes for the last.
1 of the biggest things that helped my shooting was FOCUSING ON THE RIM its sounds so simple but I promise during that shooting motion FOCUS ON NOTHING BUT THE RIM 💯
Everybody who reading this you got this. Put in the grind I’m left handed by nature my family tried to make me right hand but i rebelled and listened to myself. Born a shooter but no to get off topic everybody has the potential we are all powerful beyond measure. Use your gifts to your benefit and push yourself harder till your within activate 🙏🏽💯
I started doing form shots before doing shooting workouts and it has improved my shooting massively. I plateaued hard and didn't get better since my student days but now I'm seeing gradual improvement again which is encouraging for somebody trying to get back in the game.
When I reinvented my shot going into sophomore season (because it sucked), i did one handed shooting starting close and then moving out gradually. Then I worked on putting the other hand up and shooting form shots from close and working my way out. I did this everyday and my shot improved drastically and didnt look like crap anymore. But doing that everyday helped me gain consistency and i became a very consistent shooter bc of that i believe
I love starting off with u see the rim form shooting focusing mainly on what I was Messing up last time. Usually it’s just making sure I snap my wrist and release off of the 3 fingers. And importantly seeing the ball go through the net perfect swish gives instant confidence
I was doing drills like this with my girlfriend at the park , we were just focusing on form and nothing but net , and I was getting shots from the free throw line in no time ! 2 hours out there and we both saw improvement ! These are valid people !
this is def good if you’re still trying to get used to shooting a certain way and getting your form down , but once you got that down i would try not to get too used to this , think about it in most games (high school/aau) you’re not gonna be able to work out like this so try to shoot when you’re cold sometimes too
This is spot on. There’s a video of Steve Nash (RU-vid “Steve Nash in 20 min”) where he is doing a shooting warmup drill. It’s a very simple regimen but it’s amazing how effective it is in regard to getting loose and just having a very smooth feel with your shot.
Facts right there Rodger mason jr taught me the two finger method for the guide hand and starting very close to the bucket gradually moving back making sure everything is a swish
Season starts tmr for me thank you for the tips this should really help me get better ive been practicing in my basement for hours trying me best to improve
thanks bro ive been watching your vids i play for a aau team called be elite basketball but the thing is ive never had actual basketball structure such as plays and other things ive always played streetball plus i never grew up playing basketball i always played football i just started actually having basketball structure instead of just doing whatever but your videos have helped me improve my game and make the team. Keep Up Da Grind Bro🎉❤
These tips are good I used to have one of the best shots on my college team (UK) however since I got to uni I’ve been unable to practice and have put on weight, it’s good to see some drills to practice when I have the chance
