I spent a couple of years working with two Japanese franchise dealers with an in house marketing team and partnering with other marketing companies and this, what you’re teaching is so fundamental, not simplistic but foundational, strongly! This has to be the most important video not just for photographers but for any kind of business owner. Truly!
I watched the whole thing and took notes! That's a first! I am currently building my website that I started two weeks ago and I am sat twiddling my thumbs thinking what to do next and I just found it! Thanks Signature Edits for the excellent video. If you'll excuse me, I've got work to do!
What I like about yopur video is you do know about SEO, I can say this as I know a bit about SEO, not as much as you but it does prove to me that your are correct in the things you are teaching. Thanks for the video and I am taking a look at your website offerings.
"Watching" in the background as I was doing some editing. I heard "get a 'caking' program" and I had no idea what the suggested program was...looked over at my second monitor where I had the video playing... turns out it was a caching (pronounced "cashing") program. learn something new every day. ahah. other than that appreciate the information, and reminders.
I really liked the way you explained things. Every word and its explanation was very easy to understand since I am not into this field. I loved it. Thankyou...
Awesome, glad it made sense and hope you see big results from applying it! If you want even more in depth strategies & step by step walkthroughs check out our full SEO course. This vid covers everything you need to do though in a broad way - Good luck! :)
You definitely hit one of my pain points. Waiting and wasting time is the death of me. I am a solopreneur and I have come to the conclusion that Google ranking needs to be prioritized above all of my marketing strategies. Actually, this can be what I focus on for a while. I have had success before with Google inquiries and let me tell ya, it's way better than trying to find people. So thank you so much for this. Very informative and I'm interested in the course as soon as I am able. ThanksSignature Edits. PS. there is a lady later down the line in the comments that LOVES your voice. Somebody may acquire a stalker. lol
Totally agree! When it comes to bookings, 95% of the weddings I get are from ranking well on google / good SEO. Definitely get that sorted asap as it takes time start working, but is well worth the effort! Good luck :)
That's awesome, so glad to hear that! If you want even more techniques and step by step strategies definitely check out our full SEO Course :) shop.signatureedits.com/rankongoogle
As a photographer, I have been wondering how I can start my SEO and get more visible for about 6 months. My fiance has been a photographer too and neither of us had this much information so far. (not even close to it) We are really really thankful for this content. Also the way you explain is very smooth and clear. Thanks a lot !!!
Amazing, so glad to hear it was helpful for you Ihsan! If you want an even more in depth step by step guide, make sure to check out our full SEO For Photographers Course! shop.signatureedits.com/rankongoogle

Hey there. LOVE THIS. Question for you...Is it necessary to delete old blog posts? Should you? How do you know? Also, I’d love if you made a video about how to blog properly!
Hey Boomer! I never delete them UNLESS they contain work I actively want to hide... So for example if my style has changed a lot, I would make sure those blog posts aren't easily accessible to visitors (aka hide them from the menu) but I actually wouldn't delete them - I keep them around for the SEO juice and backlinks they might have. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for the video!! I have been working on back links from Pinterest but I’m realizing I’m sending people to blog posts which may not help with backlinks to my homepage…. Thoughts? Or is the Pinterest part just to bring people to your site in general to show google it’s an active and relevant site?
Glad it was helpful! U r doing it right - backlink should go to the blog post (assuming its yoursite.com/blogpost) - google is looking for natural links to the site - if all the links go to the homepage that would be unnatural and actually work against u!
Question about the age domain sites. If I choose that name for my site does that need to be my business name or something close to it? I guess I just don't understand how that will help people find me particularly if it's not my name or my product and that site name? Would you mind explaining this to me a little bit? Thank you so much for this video it's so helpful! I'm a women's portrait Fine Art photographer just starting my professional journey. Building my own website is where I'm at now and I'm a bit stuck and frustrated 😖 any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your videos I'm a long time subscriber! ❤️
Hi, thanks so much for this video! Quick question, would buying a domain with authority and forwarding it to your existing domain work to boost my SEO?
Yes, it would! However it wouldn't be as effective as if you used that same domain. Still would give you some juice though so if the domain were cheap worth trying. The best way to do it for SEO would be not just to redirect all traffic to the one homepage, but to redirect every page on the website you bought to a corresponding page on your new website. So if the old website had a link to a page titled "best wedding photographers in chicago", you'd want that page to redirect to a page on your site with the same topic.
Hi! What if you don't have a niche? My photo and video business shoots primarily products, food, apparel, and events! Should I not have a website that includes everything, and instead pick 1?
Thanks! Personally no, I don't - Although if you were to load your photos into google maps THEN that could be very helpful. (Ie tag a bunch of photos you took at a recent wedding on google maps around that venue location) - Great question!
Agree with almost everything you said. For most though a CDN could actually increase load time, especially the free one used by Siteground. Most photographers will be targeting a local demographic so simply use a host with servers in your location and then you don't need a CDN.
Hmm interesting perspective Gary... Maybe you're on to something. Have you experimented with both? I've personally found the free CDN has increased my site performance every time, BUT I've honestly never dug that deep into it so maybe I'm missing something. The other advantage with a CDN is from a resource perspective I think you can download files from multiple servers at the same time, which would increase speed regardless of location. But I'm not a technical guy so certainly people should look into it for themselves :)
@@SignatureEdits I'd read so many people rave about CDN so tried the Siteground free option. It caused couple of issues so discarded it. If I ever left Siteground I'd probably host with WPX hosting and I would use their CDN. There are some advantages to a CDN but people need to understand what they are and if they are important to them. If you have visitors from all over the world or have high traffic then I'd use one. Most photographers though have low traffic and target a local demographic. I'd argue 90% of photographers don't need a CDN.
hi when looking for domain name in Auction site, is it ok to but an old domain not related to photography ? Will that still give the same effect as you mentioned in the video ? Or does the domain have to be photography related to get the right result ? Thanks and great video :-)
Interesting question CJ! A none photography domain would technically achieve the same purpose, but would have a slight disadvantage if google knows it as a carpentry site but then you change it to photography versus one that google already knows as a photo site. That said, I'd say go for it - You're still much better off than with a brand new domain!
Wondering about blogs...is there a particular blog platform we need to be using or can we use the blog feature that is included in our website? Thanks!
Hi Tammie! The specific platform doesn't matter as long as you have your own website domain... (ie tammiephotography.com) --- using a free platform like tammiephoto.blogspot.com is going to be WAY harder to rank, so just make sure you're using your own website!
Hi Ryan! Great video. I am an SEO idiot and despise marketing and the amount of time it eats up. Even this video has me pulling my hair out with all the things I need to do. I'm very happy to buy the SEO course, but how much easier do you think it will make the process? I'm not balking at buying the course, I'm just honestly wondering how much easier it will be to follow these steps. The steps you laid out are plenty understandable, just ridiculously time consuming (for an SEO idiot like myself.) Will the course make me life easier? Thanks again!
Hey Paul! Great question. Obviously I'm biased, but short answer is yes, I'd say it would make it easier. This video gives a 20k overview of the things you need to focus on to do well with SEO, whereas the course breaks it down step by step and shows you the most efficient ways to get those things done. I spent a lot of time condensing it to give you max results w/ minimum viable time and energy invested on your part. That said, it comes with a guarantee so if you're on the fence I'd say give it a go and you'll know first hand whether it's a fit for you :) Hope this helps!
i like the video, thank you. Do you worry that taking word for word from pinterest posts etc ( at 15:20 in the video) even with a new picture or graphic is actually promoting plagiarism? I believe that original content should be just that. has any issue ever come from where there has been a close copy of someone else's work?
Hi James! Great question, and rewatching I definitely wish I had been a little more clear on what I meant. I agree - Content definitely needs to be unique and original in most cases. SOMETIMES you can get away with copying something that is not a unique idea of the creator - For instance, you could copy the info from a post with the average winter temperatures of different cities in the US - That is public information... But yes, if you're going to use this method for content, you've got to put your unique spin on it so that it is unrecognizable from the original post (ie "5 ways to sharpen a knife" - You could rewrite "5 creative knife sharpening methods") - Hope this gives a little extra clarity!
That's a great question - One method I've found is helpful is to take text from a related article, and then use it as a prompt while I am writing. I definitely don't copy text from other websites as that is plagiarism and can get you into trouble (Unless its something like an address or non copyright material, in which case feel free!)
With regard to buying an old Photography domain name, how old is old enough? Are you saying that the level of activity on the old site is not important, just the age?
Both activity and age matter, but it is way easier to rank an aged domain event with zero activity. I'd go for anything over a year, as long as you like the name. Older is better.
@@SignatureEdits Thanks, that means a lot to me, being a bit of a dinosaur in this sort of thing. Surprised and impressed that you answered so fast! I'm considering purchase of your training kit.
any tips.. I've been trying to get my code from google for months.. they only do it by postcard.. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT. I do not show up on google...... I am not getting any clients
I see a lot of people with the same issue.. I feel like it's killing my business! I can only do so much in instagram and facebook, and like you, buying ads did not work for me.. I only come up when you type in my name exactly. I want people to discover me from their search
Hey Alexis! GRR that is so frustrating. With Covid I know all these things are taking a lot longer, so that's probably why. Fortunately that's not the only way to show up on google search, and doing proper SEO with your website will make a huge difference! If you want a more in depth step by step process, check out my full SEO for photographers course. Good luck!
For those watching, when you get to the ‘Active Content’ section, do not copy others work like he mentioned. That’s called plagiarism and it’s not only wrong, it’s illegal.
wait. so going on to pinterest, and using the top content with a new graphic isn't plagiarism or copyright violation? I feel like my biggest fear when generating ideas for my photography blog for my website is finding something original (which lets face it, is very hard)
I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "same content" with a new graphic Mikey! No, you can't just copy and paste other people's work. But you CAN use other people's work and ideas to create something new and improved. Copyright law has a lot of grey area in it, but in general with written word you can copy the ideas, just not the verbatim word for word - You'd have to rewrite the ideas in your own words.
I misread this sorry. I thought these were actually old domains that were previously used by others. On another note cant beat having service and location in domain titles 😎
Look, this video is amazing, we all know that. Hands down it's the best on RU-vid. But can we take a second to appreciate your voice? It's almost better than the video. I would listen to you talk about socks even though I don't give a flying f about socks
Do you have recommendations on who to set up websites with? I'm currently using Weebly (paid) and while the website is beautiful, the load time is awful and I'm not even ranking in google. Got to page 13 and the search results devolved in to pages that weren't even related to photography
Hi Jennifer! I'd definitely recommend a combination of siteground for hosting and wordpress for your website builder. Squarespace is also good and a little less complicated if you're not super tech savvy! Definitely check out our SEO Course if you're interested as I walk through everything in depth. shop.signatureedits.com/rankongoogle
Everyone, please don't buy an existing domain for a quick rank. This is a 100% bad advice, even if it helps you rank quickly, it's impact is negligible in SEO if you're in the business for the long term. If you're doing this, you are abandoning the chance to use your own brand as your domain. Your domain name should help your brand become memorable and standout from competitors. If you use an SEO-driven name, you're gonna be stuck with it and you're 100% going to regret this route.
While you’ve got some totally valid points about building your own brand, its equally possible to buy old domains and redirect to your “brand domain” also for 99% of photographers, brand value is never going to matter as they wont be reselling their “brand” down the road since their brand is effectively them :) Lastly you are kindof conflicting yourself… saying it may help you rank quickly but also “its impact is negligible” so… Just some observations :)
I'm pretty sure buying expired domains don't work anymore, it hasn't been a valid SEO strategy for many many years now. Google has sniffed out a lot of bad players trying to blackhat their way into ranking fast by buying expired cheap domains.
Oh my god thank you so much for this video, I started my photography business three weeks ago and I’m learning day by day but one thing is for sure, this video has been the most helpful so far! Thank you ❤️❤️
