Best explanation of sitting posture in sitting cross-legged position by beginners. One gets to understand why knees and thighs fly upwards away from the ground, why back gets rounded and why the cross-legged position becomes uncomfortable after some time. Please post a follow-up video on what exercises are done to address these problems and how and why they overcome these problems. Thanks in advance.
Superb. So informative and understanding. My inability to sit cross legged is one reason why I don't go to yoga classes. It seems to be the one thing everyone, except me, can do in a yoga class!
this was extremely helpful. I typically do not comment on videos but I have scoliosis and really struggle with sitting and found this most useful. I am so lopsided and my ribcage somewhat rotated. when I sit I feel like both sit bones don't touch the floor. I lean to one side. it's very frustrating. you made my day. it's sooo hard to find information like this and presented as well as you did here. thank you.
I thought I was fine sitting cross legged until I needed to start waking my hands out to stretch the lower back and just knew it wasn’t right. I so appreciate your channel.
He is very genuine unlike many people out there...u might never be able to sit cross legged because of your anatomy he say bt others don't state that so u keep working on something against your body n might even cause more harm. ..thank you sir
Dear Joe, I love the way you described the anatomy while doing certain movements. I am a beginner in yoga and very interested in how everything works on the inside. I subscribed to your channel and hope to find more interesting videos like these. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. I have struggled with this for years and most yoga teachers don't explain or give ways to achieve a good posture. Recently I've discovered that having a block works for me and now I know why 🙏
You have a gift of explaining anatomy and how it affects our movements. This video was very helpful to me. I have both a tight/pinching hip flexor/groin area and weakened external hip rotators. Do you have a yoga video that explains how to tenderly address those challenges?
Nice explanation. My anatomy means I cannot comfortably sit crossed legged and no matter of stretching improves this! Good to have some alternatives 🙏🏻
great video, i dont think i have ever really appreciated that psoas connection and how you get caught trying to stop falling backwards means its just permanently under tension
Wow, this was so helpful and educational! I prefer sitting on the floor to chairs or couches, but I was wondering if I could make it even more comfortable/good for my posture. Now I am excited to use a folded blanket underneath me. I'm also curious about where the best position for the head/neck are when you're sitting cross-legged, as I have chronic neck pain. Maybe against a wall? Anyway, thank you, and I'm looking forward to viewing more of your videos!
some people have a restriction in one of the hips abduction when squating or sitting (due to lack of mobility flexibility there). This can cause a lateral pelvic tilt when sitting. Is there a specific group of positions that can help increase adduction and external rotation on one side,
Hey Joe, I feel lots of knee pain after sitting like this, with legs crossed and hips on a block or in Seiza/Virasana, for an hour or more. Do you have any tips on mitigating knee pain?
Thank you sir , I thought I was the one of the few people who have these problems my thigh is big I can't sit properly But can u tell a exercise to sit properly without using any support, please help a lot
your videos are very informative. They scare me a bit because there are so many nuances to every posture. What we may think is the correct posture might actually be harming our bodies. Thanks for all the information.
I have a class where we have to sit on the floor for around 6 hours on Thursday and Friday. after each 'class i get a lot of back pain. I'm going to class now. i will try this sitting method and i'll update about how it felt! Thank you
If there is a challenge, then is opportunity for a solutions. Firstly is question why you want to sit on the floor. For most people is sitting on the floor for one hour extremely painful and uncomfortable. This is a side effect of past choices. When we were children we all can sit on the floor, but then we make a decision "not to stretch any more". So the challenge is not if you can sit on the floor, che challenge is why you choose not to stretch every day ( like for 15 years🙏😂). The video is clearly showing the resaults of non stretching. You can help you just a little with suggestions how to improve this in the video. One solution is "hard core stretching". For a lon time I was thinking that this is all. But the reality is that food that you eating and how you body digest the food, can dramatically improve stretching. (Please don't make a religion out of food like vegetarians, row, vegan, paleo, keto,..) Ayurvedic prospective on food is quite useful. Ayurveda just explain how different food is effecting your body, according to your personal constitution of body and your current state of the body. This is all useless information if you choose not to stretch every day. But if you choose to stretch, then choosing the right food for your current state of the body, can make your stretching quite a pleasant process. What is the alternative? 🙏😂 Extremely painful stretching. Can we say that junk food can make it worse? The second thing that is influencing stretching is mindset. If you have a job that you can get fired if you show that you are creative... you can get a picture how you will feel while trying to stretch... Anyway I like anatomy explanation... When you can manage sitting comfortably, then is next level, how to manage the thoughts of the mind... and the answer is you can't manage the thoughts, there is a different prospective and now I'm out of this context sitting on the floor..🙏😂 Make yourself a meaningful day🙏
I am 100% convince my legs are too short to be Crossed. At least too short or too fat. Maybe be both. My problem isn't my knees flying up. The issue is the immediate intense pins and needles. My whole legs went numb I could barely move em. And it hurts my ankles. Nobody 8s talking about THat!
It's one of those things that a lot of people (including me) have to work on very hard. It takes time and patience, especially if you're older and haven't grown up sitting in these positions.
