Yes, but you would take more damage using a grenade vs using a stun or chaff grenade. A guard can also shoot Snake and push him through the door as long as he’s in the correct position.

It’s annoying that he didn’t even mention the origin or at least name of the skip.

@rh8306 Thanks for your comment. I wanted to keep the video focused on how to do it instead of the background. There are a few RU-vid videos dedicated to the origin, but not a lot about a tutorial for how to do it. To give credit where it’s due, I added a pinned comment and a paragraph in the description giving credit to Boba.

Thanks for your comment! On casual playthroughs, I agree that there are many ways to overcome the challenges. However, when doing Big Boss rank runs on Extreme difficulty or Fox rank runs on Hard difficulty, you can't afford to take a lot of damage and you are very limited on the number of guards that you can kill. This skip is very helpful for the challenging runs because you get to save on time, health/rations, and number of kills. Since you can use special items even in the Big Boss / Fox rank runs, you can just equip the bandana and spam stun grenades the whole way up, and then the only problem is the rappelling section.

Does the fast travel work for this part with the cardboard boxes or do you actually have to run it? I don’t remember 😂 A lot of people didn’t know that for backtracking for the sniper section neither. I just figured it out by chance

The guards can absolutely damage you through the door, but she just happened to be in the correct position and facing the correct angle. She got very lucky, and there is a way to remove the luck factor and do it intentionally.

It just happened to me in my very first playthrough just 2 days ago, didn't know why I was supposed to use the rope, and also I didn't know why was Liquid waiting for me on the roof of Tower B

That's true. The guard can shoot you through, and that is actually how this skip was first discovered completely by accident. You do need to get the correct damage animation to go through the door, but if you're out of stun or chaff grenades, the guards can help you out.

@@phillipbancroft7087 ok I figured out you have to do the weapon glitch that avoids you fighting the Hind d after using this glitch for it to work.

This was a complete accident by a streamer named Boba. She was doing a casual playthrough and was struggling. She happened to be in the right place and got shot by a guard, and it worked. The speed run community went to work to figure out how to do it intentionally.

That's mad. Never knew about it. Been playing this game since it was released and still finding out new things 😂

I’m not sure. If it did, it would have to be a door that led to a transition to a different area, so you couldn’t do it to get the PSG1 early or anything.

A couple tips that helped me practice: When you're pressed against the door and moved all the way to the side, go into first-person view mode while you're still doing the movement animation while stuck to the edge of the door. I think if you let go of the movement button before going into first-person view mode, you can accidentally shift your position by accident, especially if you are using the sticks to move. Using the direction buttons instead of the sticks is better for aiming yourself toward the crack. Each tap of the direction button moves you a set amount toward the left, and that can help you aim your view more consistently. Try experimenting with different views a little to the left or right of the crack. I don't think it needs to be 100% precise, but it needs to be near the line on the wall. If you don't get the right animation to play out, you have time to reset and try again. You should go back against the door, shimmy to the side, aim toward the crack and try again. You can also stay in first-person view mode and have the guard shoot you. It's not as consistent as the cooked grenade method, but the damage from the guard can cause the same animation as the cooked grenade. Keep trying, and I'm sure you'll get it!😄

It does make you feel like an action movie star, but it's brutal for extreme runs.

It's for the speed running community not for the casual community. Speed runners naturally only take up maybe 1% of games popularity but help keep the games relevant and in main stream attention this skip referred to as the Boba skip was accidentally discovered and brought new life and new streamers back to mgs1 to keep it relevant as new people tried for personal bests in mgs1. Speed running is a healthy part of the community and have strict guide lines on what's accepted. Some categories even include no sequence breaks category which this would be categorized as.
