EXCITING NEWS! I just chatted with Naturepedic and they said that if you guys like this video and would like to see another video, they'll giveaway a mattress for FREE! That's worth several thousand dollars - wow! So make sure you like, share and comment below what you'd like me to talk about in another video. Happy Sunday! xo - Lisa

Also wanted to add: Some people have adverse reactions to melatonin and valerian root. I definitely respond oppositely and will lie awake for hours after consuming either. I found that taking Gaia Herbs “SleepThru” works perfectly for people like me with the opposite reaction. I use this is combination with my magnesium lotion (on my back), Young Living essential oils (Cedarwood and Vetiver), and take SleepThru 30 min before. I’m asleep within minutes and I sleep through the night a lot better! I have a hormone imbalance and Adrenal Fatigue, so my sleep isn’t perfect but as someone who has struggled to sleep for 12 years, it is at the best it’s been for a very LONG time! I hope this helps someone else who is struggling!
@Downshiftology
@Downshiftology 6 лет назад
Very true! For me, melatonin helps me get to sleep, but depending on the dosage it also wakes me up in the middle of the night. So I use that the least of the four. Magnesium and CBD oil work the best for me. And given that these supplements all work on different parts of the body - hormones, anxiety, nervous system, etc it really depends on the root of the problem and which might help. I'm glad you've found what works for you though. Thanks so much for sharing! :) x

Thank you for all of this info. This is the first I have heard of sugar imbalance affecting sleep but makes perfect sense from my observations. I have also found that meditating on verses from the Holy Bible really helps get rid of my anxieties. Struggled to sleep for months after the loss of a family member. And that was the main thing that helped.

Lovely video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Millawdon Impulsive Wish Trick (just google it)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for getting rid of insomnia without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.

I had really bad insomnia for about 3 months where I slept at most 4 hours/night. Turns out, I had undiagnosed severe depression. Taking prescription sleeping pills was a life saver for me. All these tips are great, but if insomnia is something you've suffered from for a prolonged period of time I highly recommend seeing an actual doctor for it.

Thank you for your helpful tips. I'm a natural night owl and for the summer I would sleep during the day and stay up all night. Now that I have a 8-5 job, transitioning my sleep pattern has been challenging. I already have blackout curtains, a diffuser and a comfortable bed. I'm also trying to find a workout and cleaning schedule that now works with my new work schedule. So, it's very much a trial and error time period at home. Thanks again!

I make a cup of pukka nighttime tea at 9pm when I take my nightly medicine then I drink it whilst reading or doing othe relaxing activities, I have a set of fairy lights to turn off at 10:40 which is a non intrusive signal to turn off any other light, put on my night podcast, eye mask and go to sleep. I will admit free that due to my chronic pain I do have other factor that can mess up my sleep but this routine help calm my mind and give me the best base for sleep.

@christinat.7171
@christinat.7171 6 лет назад
These are all great suggestions/ideas. Never heard of the CBd oil. You could do more on that. Also, if you have any food sensitivities that can disrupt your sleep bc your body is working to deal with it. So, cut gluten, dairy, GMOs, processed foods, sulfites in many items, soy, sugar etc. All these affect the system. The notebook is a great idea. I used to use that to download all my mind chatter at night. Writing is relaxing. You can look at pleasing photos. Things that make you happy. Or a fav magazine that is uplifting. Nighttime prayers are good as well. Excellent video :). Count me in for the mattress. ❤❤❤
@Downshiftology
@Downshiftology 6 лет назад
Great point about the food sensitivities Christina! All of those can affect the system and cause restlessness in the middle of the night similar to blood sugar imbalances. Magazines and photos are great as well. Anything that isn't too taxing on the brain. :)

Thanks! Each person is unique (to a degree) but there are many studies that show significant adjustments to the sleep hours I indicated can have negative health implications. Sometimes repeated behavior (like always going to be late) can start to feel natural or easy, but our bodies perform best on a natural circadian rhythm that aligns with the sun. :)

This was a great ❤❤❤ video and yes to hearing more on your night time routine and CBD that does not taste bad. I can not take my gummies at night because they are sugar and I also prefer not to have something in a gummy form at bedtime even though they are calming. I am a serious case of chronic insomnia. I have a thinking mind. I am prescribed med for sleep but I very much do not like that it is not natural. I tried lots of things but also have a sweet husband who lost a lung and other is diseased plus he stays up late on his laptop until midnight and gets up now at 5:30 am. Weekends if he is not working he stays asleep late but I still wake up 7 am. More things I do but mainly it is a thinkers mind. You are great at doing these videos! such a great video yes so what rly helps me sleep better is to go do some pushups or run for 5 to 10 mins with some rock music like deltaparole. the getting out of bed and doing smth and music is important cuz that takes ma mind off of sleeping and relaxes me and when i start sleeping relaxed, i sleep better. just dont think about sleeping in bed. best of luck fellow sleep warriors. more videos like this please!

I was literally looking at the ceiling all night without even 5 minutes of sleep last night - terrible experience. My sleep has always been bad, some people saying don’t stay in bed and get up for a walk if i really couldn’t sleep. What you do think? Any advice?

I work 2nd shift and I probably average 4 1/2 hours of sleep a night. I've tried melatonin, tarte cherry concentrate, sleepytime tea, and Aveda's tea, which is delicious. Nothing seems to work. I've also tried zolpidem once.

Magnesium really helps you to relax at night and especially helps if you have leaky gut. But I was told since I have autoimmune diseases not to take melatonin.

Great video! Can I add that I have discovered that too much sodium is a problem for my sleep, would that come under dehydration? I try/struggle to remember to drink probably 4litres of water a day but it helps. My other solution involves my technology🙃 in that if I put on a familiar story on Audible with a timer that really helps, but I do worry that that is perhaps a bad habit to rely on…!?

Greetings from Denmark, Europe. You are amazing, and my biggest inspiration. I learn so much watching your videoes. When Im in a bad period, your videoes gives me the strength to get myself together and start a new chapther with healthy benefits. I have a question: You recommend leaving the phone at least two hours before sleep, which is an amazing tip. Do you have any suggestions on what you can do the two hours before sleep, to relax your brain other than take a warm bath and do you skincare routine? Is it a bad idea to read a book? Hope you have the time to read my comment, and answer it. Keep on going with the amazing work! I am living in Denmark, and would love to meet you one day🤩 Thank you in advance!

I’d love to see a night time routine video! Also any tips you have for micro apartment- dwellers like me (~300 sqft in NYC). I do my best to try to create a peaceful space, but find it hard in a small studio. Thanks for your always-excellent videos!

You're welcome Ashley - I'm glad you love them! And yes, micro apartments definitely come with challenges and that's where minimalism is your friend. You can also think of a local park as your "oasis" and relax and meditate under a tree in the afternoon. The mother nature gives an extra boost as well. :) x

I have a oil diffuser, but only a few oils. Peppermint, lavender, sweet orange, eucalyptus, tea tree, and lemongrass I use a blend of 5 drops eucalyptus or tea tree, e drops of peppermint and 4 drops of lavender. Its surprisingly a light scent. I'm not a fan of lemongrass, and the sweet orange takes over the other scents and it smells like my wood cleaner. I tried using just a few drops of plain old lavender. It was probably 12pm and I just wanted to know how itd smell. It knocked me out like that gross medicine they give you before getting surgery and I woke up with the worst headache of my life and a dry throat and mouth 4 hours later. I cant sleep in a pitch black room. And I need some sort of sound. I usually have my music playing on the lowest volume on my echo. I'm the lightest sleeper. If the light turns off when the diffuser stops, I'll wake up. When my music stops, I wake up. If any light that's on turns off I wake up. Yikes. I'll stop. I write the longest comments known to man. I'm sorry. I have a a habbit of overexplaining

Magnesium: my blood tests show only deficiency in Zinc, I also have weak nail, etc signs of deficiency -- even though I eat 5 Magnesium-rich foods regularly. Since I started taking Epsom salt baths regularly, my nails are strong and hopefully I will absorb Zinc easier. Magnesium is linked a lot of systems in our bodies.

Test your iron levels too! Most women have some sort of iron deficiency because we have periods but a lot don’t realize how much of a deficiency they have. It also actually effects sleep OR it makes you fatigued throughout the day!

@@SkyelarRenee Thanks. No problem with iron since i changed all my pots/pans to cast iron. You absorb 30% of iron requirements from iron pans.
