Hey guys, hope you enjoy this one. I meant to mention that Jim is probably joking around when he says "Gideon", that's not an actual mode lol. He also says Mixolydian which is a mode, but that's the major scale (Ionian in mode-speak) with a flatted 7th. I'm going to make a video soon explaining the future of the channel, but I really want to take it back to the roots this year of what this channel used to be. Thanks for all your support and Happy New Year!

I´m loving this. Actualy a great, great way to get into soloing. It´s not all to complicated but looks very impresive. I seriously think you are one of the better teachers on YT and deserve waaaaay more subs. Thank you for all your efforts and everything you do.

Definitely sounds like Jim! I don't really know theory but ''Gideon mode'' did make me laugh lol. Something I'd add to the licks is the little minor thingy he does in pretty much every song live, 7th fret on the G string, 6th on the B string and an open high E to top it off. It's become one of my main go-to licks too by now haha

Thanks for this video man, I've idolized my playing around Jim, but I've only been playing for two years now, and as someone who has never really practiced legato runs and scales/shapes, it's coming off very challenging to me. Would you have any tips?
@BlackacreDoe
@BlackacreDoe 2 года назад
Like I said in the video, I'd recommend knowing your scales before tackling these. What I did when I decided I wanted to play lead guitar is I found my favorite key and my teacher helped me map out all the modes (E Natural Minor was/is my favorite key). Once you know all the positions of one key, eventually you can translate that information to any key you want to play in. For the legato runs, I'd recommend first doing some hammer ons and pull offs between two notes instead of 3, but then eventually working your way up to 3 note per string legato runs. I highly recommend practicing with a metronome and starting out slow, while gradually building up speed.

Would you possibly do a video similar to this in the future for rhythm playing? I'm why but personally I've always connected more to rhythm and when I come up with my own stuff it sounds good enough but maybe some extra advice and tips would be helpful?
@BlackacreDoe
@BlackacreDoe 2 года назад
Yeah that's a great idea! I can certainly do the same style lesson as this, just rhythm examples instead of soloing.

Is legato just lighter picking? And liek letting it roll rather than like strumming?
@Jason-hh3wb
@Jason-hh3wb 6 месяцев назад
Legato is basically when you are using alot of hammer ons and pull offs instead of picking
