A little tip for the buckets. Instead of putting the wood at the bottom, which blocks quite a few holes, you can glue or screw it to the top of the bucket under the rim. This will create the space you need without blocking any holes. You also won't need to worry about any babies getting injured by the block. :)

thanks for all the videos and information, I'm new to the hobby and trying to do it the responsible way...I'm thinking about breeding Dubia roaches, I live in US and my garage is aprox 90F all day. Do you think I could breed them there?

I haven’t got a drill like that. I found a hot glue gun pokes lovely sized holes and they are only rough on the bottom side. I’m not sure what you call a hot glue gun in the UK. Mine gets so hot that it will burn me.

My colony is still small, but I use 5 gallon buckets. Seems to work way better. They have more space in between them and the bottom is thicker so it’s easier to drill

I had a set of these buckets when I first had dubia roaches. I bought a 3 gallon and a 5 gallon bucket. That gave a good amount of room on the bottom for the babies to fall through.

When I breed them, I used sand paper on my plastic food/water bowls so the dubias can climb up. So there's no need to damage your food bowls.

I heard you say, predrilled with 3mm, then 10mm for the smalls to go through, but I didnt hear you say what size hole will separate adults from mediums. Did you ever try?

Here's a tip for the bottom of your dubia enclosures. I use eco earth (coco coir) as a substrate in mine. I like it because then they can dig and burrow like in nature. And it helps keep the frass from piling up because frass has been known to cause respiratory problems. I also heard that oranges are like viagra for them. 😁

I would say no honestly. It takes a while to get going You'll end up with a huge surplus.

you won't have just one bearded dragon. it takes about 2 months to get a mixed species bin of feeder insects and clean up crew producing exceptionally well, in a compost style bin. to get the roaches to complete full cycles if you start with extra smalls, it will take six months. if you star with a 1:5 m:f ratio of adults, it will take 3 months to complete 2 breeding cycles. the more adults you start with, the more babies you produce to feed off.

Hey babe I love ur site and ur little boy Makin chow with u well that was the older chow anyhow I have a tip for u and it's the same as urs but a lil more efficient and cleaner well easier to clean em off the bucket and no chance of any getting stuck on the side and bottom of buckets from like home Depot they fit together perfectly and Bec of that they actually hold them selves apart I'd think far enough but the best part is they are better quality so the holes won't do that to u lol

i find buying frozen carrots much cheaper and pre cut perfect size to pop in and as they are frozen they never go off so no waste

My idea is to have a permanent 2 buckets stacked so that the small ones will fall through. Not so many holes that all food falls thru. Have you tried that?

If I notice one of my mommas are pregnant would it be a good idea to move her into the baby bin ahead of time that way I don’t even have to sort them out? Or will see be to stressed because of a new location? I don’t think she would hurt the other baby’s because theirs lots of food but just woundering if anyone may have tired doing it and if it was a good or bad idea

Research has shown that they actually do need a light cycle so you don't want it completely dark.

I'm experimenting with having holes in the bottom of my colony bin to auto sort for me! Use a soldering iron to make the holes, and you won't have to cut off all the stragglers. Also you could spray foam under the lip of the top bucket instead of using the block of wood.
