I am currently preparing an online school for Japanese language learners whose dream is to be able to speak Japanese. The school’s number one goal is to help people who are not confident in speaking Japanese learn to speak it well. We create memorable classes that resonate emotionally with students, so that when it’s time to speak, you will find yourself speaking naturally. The content of the class itself is created by a Japanese language teacher, myself, and a designer. Since I am not a professional Japanese language teacher, I thought it would be better to have a professional teach instead. The fee has not been finalized yet, but it will be about the same as other Japanese language schools.
Classes will be offered every 3 months (1 term) starting next April. We are preparing 3 courses per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and 2 courses per week (Tuesday, Thursday) for 3 months.
In order to maintain the quality of the classes, we, unfortunately, can not take many students in the beginning.
So, if anyone is interested, please pre-register using the link below, as we are considering admitting students on a registration basis. This will help us understand if we need additional teachers.

Looking forward to the whole series to compare all the various ending particles to get a better understanding! Listening-wise, I always get confused between ですよ and でしょ. I like your call-outs to your friends! It gives us a good glimpse to the casual conversations between Japanese friends. In Japanese language schools, our Japanese teachers wouldn't speak this way among themselves because they need to set an example for us. Your call-outs really help to give a different impression! Here in Singapore, we like adding our own ending sounds (e.g lah, leh, lor) to our spoken English. We are often laughed at for speaking unofficial English because of these. But their purpose is also to help us sound less formal and tense among our own friends. You aren't a Singaporean unless you know how to use them!

It's so awful that you've experienced mockery for your language. Singlish is just another dialect/variation of English just as there is British English, or Australian English, or American English (and all the sub variations), and is pretty cool imo.

Interesting. The main way 'yo' is taught is a means to emphasize or present new information. I always thought that it was more forceful in nature so I thought it was best to not use 'yo' too much. I'll definitely have to study more up on the subtleties you tried to teach cause it seems there's way more to 'yo' than I thought.

I'm really glad I found your channel. I've been learning Japanese and your videos have been really helpful so far. It is awesome how you call up your friends so we can hear realistic dialogue. Also, the Japanese and English subtitles together are extremely helpful. I have subscribed, and will definitely be watching more of your videos. I've been wondering how to properly use よ because I have been hearing it a lot in anime and other Japanese shows. I would most commonly hear characters say いくよ or いくぞ, and I wasn't sure how they were different. I knew that both meant "let's go," but I didn't understand the difference between yo and zo. Now I know that いくよ is a friendly way to say "let's go" while いくぞ seems to be more of an order like "Let's go right now!"

really interesting thank you! It sounds like 'yo' makes the words more 'heart-felt', as a particular kind of emphasis. In English that is usually conveyed by a shift in tone, softer in that there is sense of deeper connection or concern.
@lilyl5492
@lilyl5492 3 года назад
this might be a reach but health students may be interested... it seems to me the way this 'heart felt' sense is communicated includes a head movement of pressing forward and up with your chin and mouth??? (as if smooching a cat under your chin) and the lower face is linked to the heart via the ventral vagus nerve, which links up various organs of the 'social engagement system' in humans (polyvagal theory), including hearing and voice. so I wonder if the 'yo' sound captures that movement as well???

There's this game called ダンガンロンパ, in which you can refute statements of other characters, and everytime you do it successfully, the main character yells "No, that's wrong!" in English and 「それは違うよ!」in Japanese. Very good examples, I feel like based on what you explained, it is a little similar to "hey" in English in my opinion. For example if someone told me "look at this." It would be a more serious command, but if they were like "hey look at this" it sounds like they are inviting me to look at something interesting. Or "you dropped your wallet." vs "hey, you dropped your wallet!". It depends on your tone too but that is the closest translation I can think of.

i think the ending "yo" is the equivalent of adding ",you know" at the ending of an English sentence. and it's been working quite well for me so far -daigakusei desu yo +im a college student you know -ii yo +its fine you know PS: the "you know " at the end of a sentence can give off different meanings as well

I've commented on a few of these videos. I'm not a student of Japanese (yet) but I am bilingual and an interpreter (American Sign Language-English interpreter), and have studied linguistics. This is really great content. Really very interesting.
