So the trick is to take these pedals and get cool and unique sounds and then turn them into songs that people want to hear. So you could write a nice pop rock song on an acoustic guitar then plug into your pedal board , add different effects to the verse, chorus, middle, ending etc ..Or use the effects to create a song. We all wish we could be in a band where we could just play around with our effects for 2 hours, but the reality is you still need Good Songs. So study and practice writing songs ! Remember , there really hasn't been a Shoe gaze revolution yet. Let's make it bigger than its cousin , Grunge ! , Thanks, 10🌟 G

@@claudiot315 It has already come back, beginning in 2016. Ride, Slowdive, and Swervedriver reunited years ago and are committed to making new music. Lush had a temporary reunion and tour, but they are no more. However, Miki Berenyi formed and alternative/Shoegaze supergroup called Piroshka with members of Moose, Modern English, and Elastica. There are many new FX-heavy psychrock and Nugaze bands out there, inspired by the original bands from the 90s.

you should listen to loveliescrushing, specifically the album "bloweyelashwish". If you can imagine the sound of Loveless but way down tempo and NO drums. The first I listened to it I felt like I was floating in the air.

@@suspenceful7426 From what I understand, both the Polara and the Hardwire RV-7 have Lexicon algorithms in them. Not sure if they're similar though. The RV-7 is going up in price these days.

Another good thing to have is the Ibanez Tube Driver. Absolutely beautiful and amazing fuzzy distortion. Paired with good echo and whatnot it has a beautiful fuzzy distortion tone. Good stuff.

You can fake " reverse reverb" pretty easily. You just need a reveb with some kind of "gate" fuction. Ad reverse delay and some chorus or even better slow vibrato and your in shoegaze town.

@@pedalpartners you should dive into the tc electronic "toneprint"... It takes a bit of experimenting but after you get over the steep learning curve you can do just about anything you can imagine. Several people( tc included) claim the " hof" series isint intended to do reverse reverb but if you put your time in on the toneprint software its pretty basic to trick the pedal into reproducing an effect that mimics it very well. I think the hof gets overlooked for a lot of obscure effects because it does SO MUCH so well right out of the box. But you need to take time to learn how to make it do anything that isnt a preset.

I know they’ll be some perfectionists out there, but if you’re not doing legit recordings mix any chorus, reverb, delay, and distortion in different orders on the line (delay is best to put last though, and some reverb pedals will have digital delay and/or chorus). Personally I like adjusting muff effects, but an overdrive pedal (or if you can’t afford one, just overdrive your amp by putting volume high and master volume low) or regular fuzz will service you fine. Again, this is more advice for just playing for yourself, I just see a lot of money in this particular setup that might not be worth it if you’re just beginning with your gear. That said, good vid!

Wonderful demonstration brother. Guys out there who are trying to pursue this kind of sound should watch your video(s). They are really helpful. I do not have these pedals, I own a zoom g5n multi fx processor. However I try to listen to these sounds coming out of these pedals demonstrated in this video and growing an understanding about them, most importantly about the 'sound'. I would try to emulate them and create something of my own with whatever options I have in my processor. Thank you for being an inspiration on this.

Love me some EQD - the Afterneath is a wicked cool pedal, and it's kind of a perfect little demonstration box for exploring the fundamental connection between delay and reverb. I used to think of Delay and Reverb as two different, distinct effects, until one day I spent a few minutes noodling around with the Afterneath and realized that they're actually more like two expressions of the same acoustic behavior - perhaps you could call this behavior "echo". When the echo is distinct and produces discrete repetitions, it's delay. When the echo is indistinct, such as when it repeats very fast or from many directions at the same time, it's reverb. The Afterneath can traverse the spectrum between these two acoustic "forms" with the twist of a knob, and it can make some *very* cool sounds along the way. I am less enthralled with the Transmisser. I owned both pedals at one point, and I really *wanted* to like the Transmisser, but the sustain is so ridiculously long even with the knobbies dialed *all the way* back, it just turns your signal to an atonal pink goo. The "trick" to a great Shoegaze sound is in making a panoramic "wall of sound" that is simultaneously massive but also controlled. There are many ways to accomplish this but a Transmisser sort of sabotages all of them.

Current rig: Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster into the a pedalboard On pedalboard: TC Polytune. Boss NS2 noise suppressor. Rat clone with the OG chip. Mojo Hand Colossus fuzz (big muff on steroids) DigiTech TL2 metal distortion. TC Corona chorus. Red Witch Violetta modulated analog delay. All of the above hooked up to a Free the Tone ARC-53M routing controller. This mess feeds into a Strymon Timeline (currently mono) then split into stereo by the Strymon Dig, then out into the Strymon Bigsky, from there I'm feeding one channel to a Crowther Audio Double Hotcake OD, and the other into Vox Ice 9 OD, and then they both feed into the clean channels of two Fender Hotrod Deluxe III amps, one with a Eminence speaker, the other with a Celestion (the two amps sound radically different) both of which have tge spring tanks cranked up. I have many other pedals including a Devi Ever Rocket and a Muff, but I feel I could do with at least another reverb, as well as some kind of vibe pedal, a trem, a phaser and maybe a pitch shifter. I've discovered that the ODs at the end of the chain after the delays and reverb really smoosh it all together, bring the dynamics down to manageable levels with all that stacked reverb and delay, which can otherwise cause random spikes where dissonant notes have slow interference patterns which fart out the speakers, and finally bring the grit back after all that smearing of the time based stuff, which tends to otherwise make things far too smooth and angelic for my liking. I want to record this blurred out mess along with either a DI thats treated pretty clean mixed in, or an actual close mic on the strings mixed into it, in order to give it something rhythmic. Top add to this blurred out, low tuned mess of dissonant noise, complete with extended periods of analog delay feedback to end tracks, I'm planning to record reverb drenched black metal style shreaking, but only in odd places, and buried in the mix. Not particularly fussed about percussion at this point, although I have a very expensive drum machine and could add EasyDrummer, that's a bit too mainstream for me really. Not like I'm doing this for other people to listen to.... 🤪

Enjoyed your video and you definitely know your gear and your shoegaze heroes. Asmuch as I respect that one might want to ‘study’ how people have archieved that particular sound, I would prefer it if anyone developes his own. So skip the Strymon and try the most cheapass Digitech leftover or a Chinese Timmy clone. Use an ad2 of Kaos Pad for those delays. Try a diminished chord. Working with bare essentials can stimulate your creativity to finding different solutions to the problems your heroes also faced.

Your reverb rig is similar to mine. I have the Transmisser and Afterneath but instead of the Holy Grail I have the EHX Oceans 11. In addition I have the Walrus Audio Slo and Old Blood Noise Endeavor Dark Star. I'm a shoegaze/dream pop/dark ambience guitarist/songwriter.

both, settings as on screen. most of the velcro-y tone is coming from the spires, based on two awesome fuzzes - rosac nu fuzz & eqd dream reaper

Question when playing ambient, post rock or shoegaze how much does the amp play a role and what is needed to the amp in respect to midi and loopFX in out ?

@tomtasker1 OK Thanks for the Info. So the best choice would be to have a clean sound for me with a lot of headroom and more better in Stereo on 2 different Speaker splitted and an Amp Simulator, Fuzz, Distortion, Blues driver, Overdive for the mushy sound not so much the the FX Loop input, because its fixed and can not be changed while playing. I know a lot in Post Rock use Fender Tube Amps, but I would more like to go for the Revv G20, but the Revv G20 can not split the stereo signal I thnik, its a Tube Amp with 20 Watt so not so much headroom they say, but it can also simulate other amps, I will test Fender VS Revv G20 and then decide.

for these genres i would recommend the roland jc-40. i play all the genres you listed & it works great! i will have a video on the amp soon :)

Is there a way I can make the whammy bar strumming thing without actually using a bar? I mean, I have a tele/jazzmaster hybrid without a bar. A pedal maybe? Idk just wondering

try putting a vibrato or something at the start of you chain, that might work. but i doubt you can get the same pulsating feel you get by using the whammy bar manually

You can either press down the bridge of your guitar or if you push the neck and the horn of your guitar in opposite directions that’s creates a vibrato noise

pedal chains are all about personal taste ~ for me it works as in the order of the video, so ~ reverb, distortion, delay, modulation, more delay & more reverb!

hi i'm a beginner guitarist and i'm curious if i can make a shoegaze sound out of a korg axg3000g? and also can you suggest me some more shoegaze musicians aside from MBV? thank you guys

yes you definitely can! i am not so familiar with that unit, but as long as you have fuzz style distortions, reverbs (most importantly reverse reverb) & delay, you should be on the way to creating some interesting sounds! some of my favourite shoegaze bands include ~ slowdive, flyying colours, pinkshinyultrablast, ringo deathstarr & stargazer lilies

Hi everyone! I bought the Small Clone a year ago (and a Small Stone too) after watching this video. They are both beautiful but I experience a big pop noise in my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV when I engage the Small Clone. Anyone have ever experienced an issue like this? I tried to replace the switch but had no improvements. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot a keep on gazing! :)

yeah none of these are run into an fx loop, but definitely give it a go for delays & reverbs to see what suits you

mbv haven't used it from my knowledge, but reverse & gated reverb are key parts of the mbv sound. shields mainly used alesis rack units for his reverse reverb.
