Did you touch the hard avocado? Science teaches you to mature faster with these tips 🥑⏱
The ripening of a fruit involves a large number of enzymes that produce biochemical reactions that generate changes in the color, smell and, of course, the texture and flavor of a fruit. In all this process (both avocado and other fruits and vegetables) there is a fundamental element: ethylene. This is the natural hormone responsible for triggering all these reactions and, in the case of avocados, it begins to multiply and act, especially once the fruit has been removed from the tree.
So, what we must do to quickly ripen an avocado is to favor the presence of ethylene and its action on the fruit. But how to do it?
tip 1
Put the avocado in a paper bag or wrap it in newspaper. In this way, it will prevent the ethylene, which emanates in the form of gas, from escaping and concentrating around the fruit.
tip 2
It is a complement to the previous one. Place a ripe banana, apple, or mango inside the paper bag or newspaper. These are fruits that generate a lot of ethylene, and this additional ethylene contributes to faster ripening of the avocado.
And what not to do?
Don't go using a plastic bag. Because plastic is non-porous, it traps moisture inside and creates mold that can rot fruit before it's ready to eat.
Do not put avocados in the microwave or oven to expose them to heat. The only thing we can achieve is that the fruit softens due to the degradation of the cell walls, but the ripening process is not accelerated, so the taste, color and smell will not be those of a ripe avocado.
No snacks. If avocados are refrigerated before they begin to ripen, "their cellular machinery" is damaged and they will no longer be able to ripen afterwards.
Do not split or open the avocado ahead of time. That will stop the ripening process.
And remember
If you put the avocado in a bag or wrap it in newspaper, do not forget to periodically check your avocado so that it does not go overboard.
