In this tutorial we take a look at how to start a braid using a Spanish ring knot. This technique gives you a start that does not need to be covered with a decorative knot. It is a bit more challenging than the turk's head start demonstrated in the previous video.

Two questions my friend. First, how are you cleaning up the ends above the knot, second, those strands look very spaced apart perhaps too much so for braiding or plaiting. Is your core too large for this strand count?

Hey! Good questions! The knot is tightened firmly, then I simply trim the ends using a razor. The strands here are spread apart quite a bit so it is easier to see what I am doing. You could move them close together/add more. For plaiting though there are faster ways to start, since you are working with a lot of strands. Cool, but you completely skip over how to start. As in, you begin with a bunch of stuff already having been done, and I don't know how you got to that point to begin with. ...if that makes sense?

Like, you have cords coming and going all over the place before the tutorial even starts. I can't even tell how many cords you are working with. ??
