6 years later and you still can reach a person's attention with a video about making a successful channel...your perspective alone was excellent. I almost went for the promotion first and videos second...even knowing there's only a couple there...but you solidified my thoughts...make more videos for the people to even watch on your channel, not just a couple. Its common sense and solid information. Thanks, Flukemaster...for the information. Fi$h-N-Game 4LIFE!
I was really thinking about starting a RU-vid channel for awhile now. Thanks for all the info on "the facts" of starting a channel. Congrats again on 100,000 subs. God Bless
Im goin to start a RU-vid cannel in 2016. This helped me tremendously. I have been watching you, john, mike, and flair and trying to learn from the videos you guys produce. Once again, thank you and I am happy that you reached 100K man. Cant wait to see it double next year!!
Just want to say thank you I’ve been watching everyone your videos that I possibly see. I am 59 years old and just getting started and loving every minute of the fishing world. And believe me when I tell you you have help me along tremendously. Thank you again looking forward to seeing you next video
Gene. Yes dude. This is what I needed to hear. I've been following you since way back to bass resource days and I just never thought I could start a channel of my own. I finally got the courage to and have just recently started. I've got about 5 videos and I can already see how I've progressed and become more comfortable in front of the camera every time I go out. You're the man... Thanks for all that you do and continue to do. -Cruz
Thanx gene, this is exactly what I was looking for, I just needed a little advice/tips on making fishing videos. Your the best bass fishing channel on RU-vid brother.
This has nothing to do with starting my own channel. I just want to say thank you for the videos. I began bass fishing just this summer and when I youtube "how to" your channel pop up and I've been stuck ever since. Thank you and keep on bring out great videos
A lot of good pointers in this video. Thanks for posting. Always nice to see someone that knows what they are talking about and doesn’t mind sharing what they have learned. I just hit the subscribe button.
Thank you thank you thank you. Pretty much answered a few questions and doubts I had. One of my videos I actually say to never give up. Again thanks and keep up the great work.
Congrats on 100k! You're the man Gene! The bite out in SoCal isn't great but it's good enough. Glad I had your videos to teach me some season-specific techniques (and just techniques in general) to help me land some keepers. Lookin forward to whatever is next for you brother. Congrats
I just came across this vid, thanks for posting this. Some really great suggestions in here. Especially BE YOURSELF! Love it and the channel. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your fam!
I liked this video out of all the videos I've watched on how to go about having a new channel an how to make it grow it was by far the most helpful thanks for the info man I'm subbin for sure
Congrats on the now 263K subs I have been subbed and watching for a long time hopefully with the advice and inspiration youtubers like you and others have provided me over the years I will one day get there as well! As always keep those awesome vids coming!
I just uploaded my 15th video and I'm glad I watched this because I do actually get excited and enjoy editing and can't wait to film the next video. Thanks for the awesome tips gene!
It's tough not to give up. RU-vid is hard. Especially because it takes a while to grow and get out there. Many people make channels and end up giving up. My cousin did this. He still records footage on his GoPro but he just doesn't edit. I'm still encouraging him to get back editing. Trust me who would think that anyone would like my channel. The reason I started my channel was because I love editing and fishing. It's great feeling when you know people support you. I'm growing slowly but surely. And what you said about telling people to check out my channel it's not the best way to promote your channel. It's all about having a connection with those people not just having subscribers.
I've started my channel using the $129 GoPro Hero. I use the open backplate to get fair audio. It only shoots in 720P but it works for me for now. I recommend it. Thanks for the help Gene!
Great advice. I've been contemplating on making a channel for a very long time, and recently decided to invest in a GoPro and some editing software to start working on a fishing channel. I really think you hit the nail on the head with most of the points that you made and I'll definitely be taking them into consideration when I get my channel going live. Wish I would have run into this earlier!
Thanks for all the tips👍 Just started this channel yesterday. Uploads on the way, gonna do some tips, tackle reviews, live action, giveaways, and anything else the subscribers can think of👍
this is seriously the best video I couldve ever watched as I just started my channel a month ago, lol Im the guy who was over-advertising and only has 2 videos on my page lmao I really do appreciate everything u've said here tho and really plan on making the right and smart choices in growing my channel, thankyou so much for your time and teaching vids
Congrats on 100k Gene. I've never thought about starting a channel and never will but that was interesting. Ghost followers never heard of that before.
Great video and tips brother. Liked that comment about amount of content. I just started and only have 3 videos uploaded and it motivated me even more. I find i just over think the content and get way to critical, need to pump out more solid content. Cheers from Canada!
Dang it Gene, your trade mark symbol is the one I was going to use except the small line in the middle goes all the way through. My name is John T. Fitch, it would have been perfect and now I have to come up with something new. So thanks Gene. Keep up the good work. I look forward for this year's videos.
This really helped me to realize I need to slow down my thinking. I only have 2 videos working on the 3rd. Imma just go fishing and incorporate ideas as they come and not force it.
I enjoy watching you videos, i feel like its a nice way to end the day, and lately i have been wanting to go fishing so bad, I'm going to Florida next week and was wondering if you had any suggestions on what lures i should use.
I have one video dont check it out but I watch your's all the time thanks for the advice your the best and everything you just said I failed big time but one thing about me I dont give up I love the sport
100k to 200k plus! Your on a roll. I Mcgyver lots of my stuff next project is to get the mic drilled through my go pro case great tips! Long time sub on your channel and mines got a long way to go!
Hows No-shave November going? lol great video as always Gene! Iv'e been subscribed since 2011. And not that the other tips were good but that first tip on getting a good camera was the best advice for me. For 3 years I cycled through 4 cameras that were junk and created low quality videos and only a few of them every few months. I got the GoPro last Christmas and went from 200 subscribers to over 600. That was because the GoPro has a 2.5 hour charge and I can capture most of my fishing trips and create better quality videos. The hat cam thing was always an issue while on the water because of the angle and stuff but the GoPro made it very easy and enjoyable. I highly recommend everyone who wants to start a channel to get a GoPro or Sony action cam, it really helps.
First of all Gene congratulations on 100k man I have watched your channel from inception years ago and you have helped me with my own gaming channel tremendously believe it or not...I di have to respectfully disagree with part of your statement as I believe quality over quanity any day BUT people ask me to go to their channels to subscribe and there are a either a lot of videos with no true content or there is only one or two videos that were uploaded months ago. Dont get me wrong I do not have a ton of subscribers but in less than 7 months I have established my brand very well and have two sponsors from two different US based companies that provide products for gamers. You are 100% correct in using social media to your advantage. USE IG, FB, TWITTER (Twitch if you're a gamer), and Periscope. With Periscope you can broadcast your life outside of an edited youtube video its pretty awesome and I immediately saw a 80% spike in my views in less than one month simply by making the titles of my broadcasts more attention grabbing! (ie. "I shouldnt be doing this but..." or "Watch me crush this game!") But I wish everyone luck in this RU-vid game. It absolutely is a process and it will take time. But when you feel like giving up...DON'T! Put up a sicker better and more entertaining video and you will see the fruit of your labor ladies and gents!
Hey I started my youtube channel last year called PrestonOutdoors just to try and get my name out there. To when I have the opportunities to start fishing tournaments and network with people I can have a basis for people to notice who I am and what I can do. I just want to thank you for your videos because not so much on the fishing advice but the advice you give on setting up to film and the behind the scenes information which has helped me alot in making better videos. Hopefully someday I can have half as many subscribers as you do haha.
Congrats on the 100k! Always enjoy your stuff. I know you got a job and a family with kids. On top of that you gotta get out for fishing, recording and editing - how do you manage your time and still keep the family happy?
