Several months ago, I was driving SB on San Fernando Blvd close to the noon hour when I came upon what at first I was sure was Mr. J. Thaddeus Toad speeding NB in the fast lane piloting a monstrous bright green motor car with huge brass head lamps and a white plume of steam escaping from the undercarriage. Upon closer inspection, I determined that the driver of said motor car was none other than that well known auto adventurer and bon vivant Sir Jay Leno. Sir Leno had a huge smile on his face and his grey hair was flying in the wind, headed no doubt for some great adventure! Tally Ho, Sir Jay, Tally Ho I say and well done!!!

Thanks for bringing back some memories of my youth, Jay. My Great Uncle, my grandmother's brother-in-law, had a Stanley Steamer. Uncle Wayne used to visit once in a while and of course we all had to go for a ride. I think the whole family could fit in the back seat the car was so big. he used to toot his whistle for us as we rode down the street. Tragically Uncle Wayne and my Aunt passed away and 3-4 passengers were badly burnt and his Stanley Steamer destroyed in a fire while in a parade at Knott's Berry Farm due to a propane tank leak. The propane was used for the pilot light. This was back in the late 60's.

Loving the steam cars Jay, thanks for sharing these beauties and explaining how they work. Many books on early cars gloss over steam as it saying they didn't work vs gasoline once electric start came along. Very true but this brings the trials and joys of steaming to life! The White and the Doble were highly complex for their time. I think of steam cars like the Chrysler turbine car.... an interesting road not taken but fascinating in any case. Electric cars were written off for dead once and are now coming back as batteries improved ... maybe steam will someday too

Jay Leno literally created the best Car and motorcycle show ever created. Always a great host since the tonight show, always laugh at his jokes. So hard for comedians these days to be funny these days without profanity and todays environment of political correctness but Leno makes it look easy. Beyond that, the show is binge worthy, the perfect mix of old and modern and it’s literally the right pick me up when I’m down or depressed. It makes me happy that even though I’ve lost everything I was able to scrounge up and by myself a 2004 Yamaha Yzf R6! Take it from Leno, if you spend your time on hobbies instead of vices and drugs women and drink, you’ll be able to keep a illustrious head of hair! Just like his favourite category of cars, his hair is original and unrestored I could listen to him explain things for hours, I love his car related catchphrase’s! I enjoyed hearing the history of the White steam car and seeing you put it through its paces. By the way, your shoes also took me back in time "a few years." Thanks very much!
