no you shouldnt waite 2 minutes before its on operating temp, couple of seconds is enough. and you can throttle a bit, sometimes you have to, as long as you don't go full on throttle. then put the choke off waite another couple of seconds and youre off to go.
@dirtniggasteez by "stuck" do you mean that neither of the pedals will turn backwards? If so, there is 99% chance that the piston is seized and the engine needs to be rebuilt. If the engine isn't seized, you've got something wrong with your gearbox. Either way, it's A LOT of work to fix an issue like yours.
we'll i've owned tomos mopeds, and i've also owned 50cc scooters, and I prefer scooters. A 50cc scooter is much faster than a tomos, and they're more reliable. More storage too.
Technically you can start the bike off the stand, but i wouldn't recommend it if you're using choke since you have to use full-throttle. Those crappy tomos brakes probably wouldn't stop the bike from taking off on you.
There was never a "tomos speed sport". Pretty much every tomos moped will go about 30mph. I modify mine to go faster (exhaust, air filter, gearing, carburetor etc. etc.) These bikes aren't really moderated or anything, they're just built at an low state of tune. You can tune them up and make them fly. If the bike you're getting will only go 20, i would definitely try and modify it to go faster because that is SLOW!
I have a 1978 Tomos Targa with a 12/14 sha carb, 62 jet, A3 bottom end and A35 top end on the engine and, a biturbo pipe. I weigh 184lbs and can go 45mph. NO LIE! Have used a speedometer app that I've double checked in my car. Absolutely spot on. Great little bikes!!! I LOVE MY TOMOS!!!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
what do you do if the gas cap is locked but no keys, there is gas and oil.. ive checked the choke the fuel tap is kinda loose. i try to kick the pedal to start it but the pedal is stuck. any advice ?
Probably too late by now, but the engine may be locked up. Take the spark plug out , add some penetrating oil or marvel mystery oil in the cylinder , put the plug back in and leave it for a couple weeks. Then remove the plug and see if it will rotate.
Mine choke doesn't click it just slides into place and when I try to push it a little bit more to see if I just needed to give it a little more force the whole carburetor turns, if you could help me or tell me why that is that would be very helpful. It is the stock carb by the way
Should you fill it with mixed gas? Or just gas and keep the top tank full of oil? Or oil tank full AND use mixed gas? I have a similar tomos, just making sure I'm running it right
if your bike has the oil tank then you've got oil injection so run it on straight unmixed gas. However, you can also run 50:1 mixed gas with oil injection. This gives the engine a little bit more oil and will stop the engine from locking up if the oil injection should fail. But unmixed gas is fine for a bike with oil injection
Christian Ingmar Kjølsvik they only give americans automatics. because in America if it doesn't have pedals you have to have motorcycle license. its messed up and sucks. but all that's shipped to America are automatic mopeds. im 47 yrs old im American and ive never seen a tomos with foot shift. only pedals start.
Hey Alex, I just bought THIS bike from Facebook yardsale. When I say, the same bike, I MEAN THIS SAME BIKE!! I now own this bike, 10 years later. Id like to reach out to you on this. Let me know how I can contact you! Thanks!
I would but I seriously fear going to someones house to pickup a moped. Like what if this guy said Hey here's the bike you wanted then BOOM he shoots me. But Then again I could kick someone like that in the Dick then take the bike and leave the money.
NEVER use the oil injection on a Tomos moped. It is absolute junk. I found out the hard way. There are so many things wrong with it that it would take a book to list them all. Remove the complete system, including the pump under the left engine cover and the tank under the seat, and run 40:1 premix. Mix the gas and oil before pouring it in the tank. I put over 30,000 miles on my '05 ST with the A35 engine like that. My new '03 ST never even made it home form the dealer before the engine seized up solid due to oil injection failure.
I never had any issues with the oil injection but i always kept the tank almost full, since i was afraid if i were to drop the bike or something air would get into the line. I'm amazed your bike made it to 30,000 miles. Usually the transmissions blow up long before that mileage.
Yes, the transmissions don't usually last that long, mostly because of the cork clutches. But most of that was highway mileage, where the clutch was not constantly engaging and disengaging. It was also completely stock, including the exhaust. I found a ton of problems with the oil injection. Starting under the seat, the vent hole in the cap was often blocked from the factory. You could poke something through it and open it up, but they also put it in a bad place. Just sitting on the seat (I'm around 200 pounds) would push the seat base down against the cap, blocking the vent. The oil lines were what appeared to be fish tank lines. Very poor quality. The crimped together connectors would come apart, and the lines would kink easily. They were also prone to being crushed where they went through the cover to the pump, and were often kinked where they attached to the pump, because there wasn't enough room in there for them to bend without kinking. Another problem was the injector itself. It had a ball check valve in it, and after sitting for a few weeks, the oil would thicken and plug up the injector. Also, being such a simple system, it relied completely on engine RPM for how much oil to inject The pump was connected to the engine crankshaft, and the faster the engine ran, the more oil it pumped. There was no connection to the throttle like most 2 stroke motorcycles and scooters have. So it might not get enough oil under load at full throttle and lower rpms, like climbing a hill. And the last issue is how the pump was connected to the crankshaft. It was literally glued together, with a rubber spacer between the pump and crank, and was prone to coming apart. The Mikuni pump itself was really the only decent part of the whole system.
How you start a cold engine, flip choke on for 1 second and give her WIDE open throttle.... Rename video, "How to lower the life span of your tomos engine". For those interested in how to properly start a cold engine. Leave choke on until engine is at operating temperature and don't touch the throttle. Seriously. Leave it on for like 2 minutes. No touchy throttle. At all. Trust me it works, there's a reason every carborated vehicle manual says to. Unless you like to replace piston rings/pistons.
