I just want to tell you from over 15 years experience you are very smart. Your learning fast. Breaks: pay only once.... go to Auto zone buy your pads there "one time" and get lifetime pads free. Same with many other parts they sell. The more you do it on your own the faster and more confident you get. I changed many break sets out on the road on my 34 resets. And front end work " ball joints ect. Second: get that back seat out of there and buy a thick foam pad from Walmart its much more comfortable and much more room. 3rd: for winter... get a generator ( a quiet one) it will come in handy in winter. My policy... never ever ! idol my truck. It's too hard on wear and tear on your motor. Motor rebuild 18 k a generator much cheaper. I bought a Honda generator ( very expensive) but it is worth every penny but harbor freit has quiet ones for much less. 4th: Snow chains: get them at Walmart and practice putting them on w gloves and heavy winter gear. You need to be well trained in putting them on and off in icey weather. Anyway hope this helps. I rarely got motel rooms or ate out on the road I cooked everything in my truck used Walmart to restock supplies.

Love this video, also just a suggestion. You might want to check out synthetic oil change for diesel engine (I'm assuming your running a diesel engine), you can go up to 75,000 miles between oil changes. I wouldn't go that far out out but that could save you quite a bit in time and money. I drive semi and my company run synthetic blend and PM every 65,000 miles. Of course every 25k miles we do a lube or old school grease job. Happy trails and keep up the good work.

It happens, and if it hasn’t happened yet, be prepared for when it does. Dot knows what they’re looking for. Save money for that few thousand $$ fine too.

Could you go into a little more detail or explain a little bit more how the gravity fed auxiliary tank works?? I know nothing about them and was just curious how you operate it. is it something that you have to get out of the truck and do or is there something in the cab that you can do to get the auxiliary tank to fill up the regular tank?
@SuperSaturn1993
@SuperSaturn1993 3 года назад
From what I understand his is gravity fed and when he is stopped for a break he turns a valve to fill up his primary tank.
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Hey man! The comments below are spot on! The legal way is to open the valve when your parked and not have it open while running... 🤷‍♂️ If I wasn’t in a hurry to get mine when I got it I would have opted for the power style to get an extra fuel filter just to filter it one more time! It’ll cost more but I feel it’d be worth it.

@@WeekendTruckin When and if you decide to change trucks, will you take this equipment with you, or will you have to repurchase another auxillary tank?
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
I think that would depend on if I wanted to sell the truck as a "ready to haul" truck to try and max out the potential sale price... So I may leave everything in it to leverage for the best price I can get for it and have some negotiation tools to use!

@@rvnewby1455 I have a check valve style gravity fed tank. I always leave my ball valve in the bed open. The check valve is DOT compliant and will allow the tank to all ways feed the stock truck tank. It acts like a roll over safety, of the truck rolls over, it won’t leak out. RDS makes a gravity fed style valve,$50

Maybe I'm just rolling the dice so to speak, but from what I've heard is it's not a main concern unless you're "rolling coal" in CA in front of a DOT officer. But from what I gather, there may be A LOT of trucks and semi's that are in a similar setup!

@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
You don’t need a CDL! The exact average is $5,100/month is what I’ve averaged per month over the past three months. That’s what I’ve put in my bank account and is after I pay for fuel. That’s the only direct cost I factor in on an initial level of expenses. My other expenses are all part of my “personal” expenses in terms of I use the $5,100 to pay for my truck payment, insurance and all other expenses like mortgage, etc. I’ve also set aside 15% of the gross pay since starting and have just over $3,500 in a maintenance account for major issues to come. I run three days a week doing one 1,000-1100 mile trip! All the main loads are out of the Elkhart area and you self dispatch so get to choose where you’re headed. There’s one or two lots in ID as well, but I’ve talked to guys that drive up from Texas unloaded to grab campers and this is their full time gig, so it could work for you if you know your numbers and prepare for the inevitable issues that will come!

What does the oil bypass system do and how does it help with engine longevity?
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
It adds another filter that catches debris at 5microns (I believe that’s the right number but could be off) which helps catch more particles that cause damage to your engine. I believe it’s said that 90+% of your engine damage is from particles that are less than 20 microns and that’s the filtration of a normal oil filter.

Hey Craig! I'll be honest- I only know how IT works, but I feel most of the larger companies, IT/Horizon/Synergy, are all the same with their little ins and outs they have for rules, etc. Larger companies typically give you more freedom/flexibility and the smaller ones typically are a forced dispatch where you either get told what you're taking or you have to call in and book a load.

@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Does any man really know how to convince a woman of anything!? 😂 I’d say if you have a plan of attack and if it helps provide the financial resources your household needs then you present it like that! Otherwise if it’s so,etching that would allow you to get out of a 9-5 you hate, you go the route of you have a chance to be happy and maybe you don’t have all the ins and outs figured out yet but you know you’re done not enjoying what you’ve been doing and need a change. The caveat to that is that you would have to reciprocate that type of trust and flexibility if she were in a similar situation! We’ve had our battles with adjusting to me physically being gone for a few days a week where I was there all the time before... There’s definitely a learning curve in terms of family time and roles!

I’m not fully sure of what you’re asking, but I’d assume that’s determined how you set things prior to setting up payroll with them. If you set up an LLC, etc. then they’d be paying your LLC. But it’ll still be contract work and, in my opinion, it makes no sense for a single driver RV transporter to create a “business” for this endeavor. If you’re hiring other drivers, multiple assets, etc. that would be a different story! Hope that helps! If not just comment below again!

Well my question is, I don't want to take any income in my name or ss # so I do have a Corp already for another business in a transportation related endeavor , so I'm wondering if they who you work for will make all payments to that LLC

@WeekendTruckin

I’m sure there are! I talked to an older guy one of my first runs at the DAC and he was from NY. His game was to drive over to IN, take a CA trip and head back to IN and get one heading back home. Then he’d stay home for a set period before repeating it! He may had even mentioned he’d do two CA before going back east. But it all just depends on what you need to get out of it to make it work!

If you're ever in Southern California I can get you in contact with a guy I found on Craigslist who sells used 5th wheel hitchs and might have a hitch that would work for you. Also do you have the torque pro app? I have a 2007 powerstroke and the torque pro app is a totally life saver! Never heard you talk about it so I thought id check.
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
I appreciate it!! I may take you up on that offer if I take a SoCal trip in the future! Is that an app that gives you live feed on various truck/performance numbers? I had originally bought the set up and then after I got my tuner added and it had the ability to scan codes and show certain temps, I never put the plug in for that back on. So I never gave it a fair try to see if I liked it.

@@WeekendTruckin dm me if you would like and I can give you his info. I got a 5th wheel hitch for $350 but it was only 16k so im sure it will be a good amount more for the b&w 20k if he even has one. He is in Apple Valley Ca. And i forgot thag tuners have that capability. Im pretty sure they have more info than torque pro anyway.

@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Hey Randall! I’m sure you could start up leaner, especially if you take out the truck issues that I didn’t catch when buying it. I think there’s a lot of guys out there that have a misunderstanding of the profitability of RV Transport due to the minimal expenses associated with it, and dead heading with a 20mpg pickup truck in terms of fuel consumption. I say that just because, yea a guy that has his own company could piece together partial loads for $3-4/mile but he’s got his 20k/year com. Insurance. A factoring company takes a certain % of each load, etc. etc. so although they grows a higher rate per mile out the gate, their net has sharp decrease compared to RV Transport... I believe Tow Piglet mentioned he profits 40% from gross. I average in the 60’s. I had a few rind close to 70 when fuel was cheaper, but that is what it is!

3500 ram. I asked somebody else and they said yes. I would need to purchase the 53ft flatbed. If I don't have one dies the rv company let me use there's or I have to purchase one. Also are they alot of multi hauls available. Thanku
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Ok! So for the flat bed/lowboy division you mean! I think so!! I know IT has a newer program where you can purchase one from them- you put so much down and then it’s 15% of your outbound loads and 10% of your backhauls until paid off!
