PID MOD On Gaggia Classic:
• Ultimate PID Gaggia Cl...
---
Hello youtube, in this video i’m going to run through some steps on perfecting your milk texture for latte art.
First off, my Gaggia Classic machine has been modified with a PID controller. This helps me to monitor the brew temperature more precisely hence, my shots will be more consistent. You may find out more videos on how to modify your Gaggia with PID in my other video. I’ll provide the link in the description.
I usually use Fresh milk for my milk drinks. When selecting milk at the grocery store, you will usually notice that the due date is fairly short term. About 2-3 weeks duration. There are other milks which is UHT milk (short for Ultra high temperature processing. The milk is gone through specific heating processes, which in turn helps to maintain a longer shelf life. Some UHT milks are also fine for latte drinks but you’ll have to try them and decide.
I usually pour the milk up to the spout of my pitcher. I’m using a 350ML milk pitcher so you’ll want something relatively small to make single milk based drink.
As soon as you hit the Steam switch, you’ll notice that the temperature increases in the PID. This happens becuase the machine is generating enough steam from boiling the water in the grouphead. You may want to purge any condensation out by giving the knob a quick release and then close it back. By now you should be ready to steam the milk.
Notice how I position my steam wand. Slightly 45 degrees and off to one side of the pitcher. You may want to keep the tip of the steam wand just touching the surface of the milk and not submerge it deeply into the pitcher. You will hear a similar sound and using this as a gauge, you should get a well frothed milk.
Next, I’ll go ahead and extract my espresso for my latte. I’m using Ethiopia beans which was roasted in the same week this video was made. So you might want to take note of the roasting period of your beans so that the bean is still fresh.
Once done, I’ll then pour the milk into the espresso and that basically wraps up this tutorial. Be sure to hit the like button, subscribe and comment if you like this content. I’ll see you in the next one Bye!
