Thank you! Typically for silent acid reflux how much time does it take for Betaine HCL to work? And how will I know when to stop? I took 2 capsules of 600 mg each, but still got reflux at night.
How to stop acid reflux naturally: 1. Take betaine hydrochloride 2. Get plenty of potassium and sea salt 3. Get plenty of zinc 4. Chew your food longer 5. Lower your stress Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍🏿
Thank you Dr Berg. Your videos are very informative and helpful. Plus, you take time explaining things without rushing through and using a lot of medical “ jargon”.
Eating smaller meals, intermittent fasting, nothing late at night... was the only thing that really worked for me. Had it so bad I was coughing all the time. I watch all your videos 👍
@@toddbarker7804 I cough once in awhile. I find taking cough candies helps with it and relieves the sore throat. I am doing much better but will have to continue to watch it. Try not to cough if you can. It will let you heal better. Good Luck.
I agree 100%. I started supplementing with betain HCl. It worked wonders on not just my acid reflux but also inflammation in my skin and face. I recently had an endoscopy on my esophagus and they found a small hiatal hernia. GI doctor recommended antacids and had no comment on me supplementing with the betain HCl. Three other doctors had no idea what it was. It’s pretty crazy how ignorant our medical community is.
I am 69 yrs old and have suffered with IBS w constipation, Hiatal hernia, Barrett’s Esophagus & acid reflux disease, since my 20’s. Do you have any videos about Hiatal hernias & Barrett’s? I also of course suffer from constant gas & bloating. Anyway, nothing modern medicine has offered has done anything but make it all worse. After watching this I finally have HOPE! Thank you so much!
Try eliminating Gluten, Dairy, Nightshade (incl. Tobacco/smoking), caffeine and foods with lectin and reintroducing them back to see what helps you and what worsens it.
Another way to stop acid reflux if you can do this… I started with acid reflux in my 30’s. I thought it was because I was becoming unfit, therefore I started to jog 3 miles every other day. After my 2nd jog the reflux stopped, I did a few more jogs afterwards. So I stopped running and about 2 months after my reflux started again, so I started jogging again and my reflux would stop again. I still jog a little and go to the gym and I’ve only had attacks after good night drinking sessions etc, I'm 50 now and have been fine up to now.
8:12 Dr. Berg's Recommendation to Stop Acid Reflux: The best remedy is to take something to build up your hydrochloric acid and that's called Betaine Hydrochloride. You start by taking three right before your meal and see how you feel, if it's better but you still have problem, next time you take four, next time you take fine and you keep increasing it until your symptoms go away. It could take seven or eight or more of these Betaine Hydrochloride tablets before you have no more acid reflux. 9:01 Dr. Berg's next recommendation: Let's say you're up to eight Betaine Hydrochloride and your acid reflux goes away and you feel great, I would continue to take a little bit more until you start getting heartburn or a warmness in your stomach which you're taking too much, so then you can back off. That way you can know exactly how much you really need to fix this problem. 9:31 Make sure you're getting enough potassium and sea salt in your diet because those are the precursors to building hydrochloric acid. 9:42 Make sure you're getting sufficient zinc. 9:49 Chew your food longer. 10:04 Make sure you keep your stress down because stress can aggravate the situation. Thank you Dr. Berg. Sincerely, 11 : 11 Meditation Portal Channel
Betaine Hydrochloride is available in many dosages (480mg, 500mg, 650mg), can someone explain which dose is recommended following Dr Berg's plan? Thank you in advance.
I watched this 3 months ago after suffering with heartburn for 5 years. AND THEN I WAITED 3 MONTHS TO ACTUALLY TRY IT because I didn't think it could be that easy. I took betain hydrochoride for about 4-5 days, and it was rough in the beginning not taking my usual famotidine. But here I am, sleeping so much better and reclining on the couch with ZERO heartburn. No famotidine. No betain hydrochloride. I'm so relieved I could cry. THANK YOU!
@@sn3495 I used 650mg tablets, about 3-4 of them per meal for the first couple of days and then less the few days after that. Now I'm at zero and have zero heartburn.
That is amazing.. Do you have silent reflux? Did you change your diet while taking the Betane Hydochoride? I am wondering if this will work for me as well.
@@filo8582I have silent reflux. It was like an awful head cold . Yes change your diet because you need to make it easy on the restoration of acid ph. Eat alkaline foods take Betaine with protein meals .
What about acid reflux due to hiatal hernia? Is there any hope for me? I’ve been on omeprozale for about 6 months now and it seems to work decently well but I’m worried about long term side effects
Your advice is useful for people who truly have hypochloridia. Unfortunately half the people who have GERD HAVE HYPERchloridia=overproduction of stomach acid. For those people, adding more acid, i.e. apple cider vinegar, makes the condition worse. There is a stomach acid test that can tell which condition is present. People should have this checked out before blindly going on an ACV protocol. You can't choose an appropriate treatment without a proper diagnosis. That said, I appreciate in general your efforts to provide healthy alternatives to tradition pharmaceutical solutions.
Yes. Like j feel how when i eat tomatoes(tomatoes are the same as putting acid in my stomach for me) my stomach acid kills me. And with ppi i can even eat tomatoes and feel fine. How can i add more acid when the aim is to lessen it because that is when i have no reflux. And many of us have hiatal hernia, like i do, and that may be the cause. Simply we need a surgery to put the stomach back and the valve may close.
@@Marciushaget your hernia fixed first. Then see if you still have problems. Too much stomach acid is a good thing. PPI’s are bandaids not proof you have too much acid
Thank you Doc. This alkali gut problem needed a deep dive. ACV changed my life. I now embrace vinegar in many forms, including pickle juice. Anti acids are ruining people's lives!
I drink pickle juice when I get acid reflux and it works every time I also found that the juice from sweet pickles Works faster than the ones for sour pickles
Dr Berg, I watched your similar video on this topic. My daughter had a terrible acid reflux as a baby. I was too scared to give her anything acidic and as I breastfeed, I even myself avoided acidic foods. To my surprise, first foods she went for at 6 months was lemons and fermented cabbage. And that was an end of her acid reflux. She’s 6 now and she loves ACV in her salad, still eats lemons and it’s interesting that she’s saying how lemons are fun and make her tummy happy Worst thing was that doctors were prescribing her that terrible Lozac and renitidine that made things much worse
isnt that crazy? Just toss pills at you. I had high blood pressure, solution, PILLS! Real cause, low potassium. LOL They arent solving the core problem, just putting duct tape on holes in a submarine
I thought I would take PPIs for the rest of my life and dead of oesophagien cancer. I prayed for healing but never imagined all syptoms of 12 years are gone immédiately by taking ACV, even the chronic pain on my right side of body disappear at same time. All the pain was ralated to the déficiency of gastric acid! It was a 12 year nightmare, I was starving because I could not eat lots of food. I had difficulty in swallowing and I cough a lot after eating. I woke up every morning with painful throat and my voice became terrible. I could not explain to others, I was depressed and I could not even work and have a 2nd kid. I wish I would found this channel earlier. Now I am healed and I just want to cry. Thank you Dr. Berg you are a real super hero who save people's life. It's incredible that the whole medical système treat people in wrong way! There are so many doctors in this world but they don't curious about the true reason! I did meditations for 2 months to attract a magical healing and I found this channel. This is really a magic!
Enjoy your videos but I've noticed that in most cases when you recommend using a supplement such as betaine hydrocholoride in this case, you recommend taking a number of capsules or tablets of the supplement in question but do not specify what the typical dosage is of the supplement itself. In looking up betaine hydrocholoride, it seems to vary between 600mg to 1200mg. It would be great if you could include a baseline for the supplements you recommend. Also, several articles recommend taking the betaine in the middle rather than before eating and to include at least 6 oz. of protein with the meal.
If I skip my ACV I am guaranteed to have heartburn. So glad to find an affordable solution. I despise funding the crooked pharmaceutical companies. Thank you Dr Berg
I just appreciate all the time and effort you put into this channel. Your videos are always super relevant. Thank you Dr Berg. It's that familiar burning or painful sensation in the chest that pretty much everyone has experienced often enough to immediately declare it a case of heartburn. I used to have gastric reflux. Simple dietary and lifestyle changes can go a long way toward alleviating and preventing heartburn and acid reflux.
I appreciate i too, but you do realize he gets paid for this!! And it's advertising for his products. Still very worthwhile but it's not solely an act of goodness.
Factors that can aggravate acid reflux include: Smoking. Eating large meals or eating late at night. Eating certain foods (triggers) such as fatty or fried foods. Drinking certain beverages, such as alcohol or coffee. Taking certain medications, such as aspirin.
not entirely true, I suffered chronic acid reflux for 30 years.. went keto and all perfect... I can eat large fried foods late with no issue, I used to believe it was fried spicy food.... it's actually gluten that causes it!
This is exactly what we are taught in pharmacy school, and treatment consists of PPI, H2 antagonists and antacids (most efficacious products containing sodium alginate). The content in this video does not correspond with the treatment and causes we were taught. Although, he is a dr so I take his word for it...
@@MeMe-dw1sm Well I've had to cut out gluten and been off it for 3 weeks now and I've had reflux almost every day or at least the burning and pain in the gut so there is more to it than gluten and that may work for some people if that was the trigger but it won't work for all...I'm proof! They aren't giving the cure They are saying these are things that can trigger it aka make it worse!
Im confused. Are you saying every single heartburn patient has low acid? What if one has acid reflux because they have high acid? Taking HCL will cause a lot of serious problems. I heard you can have acid reflux either due to low acid production or high acid production. How do we know which is us?
Yes, it blows my mind how my Gastro doc wants nothing to do with helping me to heal my digestive problems. He simply suggests famotidine for the rest of my life. When I try to engage him in conversation about the things you teach, Dr. Berg, he just looks at me like I'm stupid and switches right back to saying I have way too much acid in my stomach.
That explains, I have GERD, I was prescribed Omeprazole for 2 months, it made worse. I began drinking apple cider vinegar diluted with water twice a day, changed my diet, my symptoms have been improving. Thank you Dr. Berg

Can age-related hypochlorhydria (over 60) be reversed using this method? Also, what dose of HCL are you referring to when taking up to 8 caps or more as they are available in many different doses.
Thanks Dr Berg. Taking your advice I have been taking Betaine Hydrochloride regularly for the last two months. There has been a marked improvement - the acid reflux that used to plague me at night has come down dramatically. I usually take 2 - 3 capsules every night with my dinner. My question is, how long do I have to take this?
I got acid reflux and stomach ulcers after I started eating ricecakes regularly (cheap bulk food for weight training) and then I remembered you warning about the alloxan that's in it. Turns out you were right.

Dr. Berg, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and for providing your audience with valuable insight regarding health. Much respect to you! I took Pantoprazole for 5 or 6 years due to GERD. When my GP prescribed it to me, I asked about possible side effects, and all she mentioned was a lack of Vit B12 with long term use. Well about 3 years ago, I was rushed to emergency with severe stomach pain and had to go on sick leave for 15 weeks. It was then I stumbled on a video talking about the dangerous side effects of proton pump inhibitors and the amazing benefits of apple cider vinegar. I stopped taking the Pantoprazole immediately and took ACV in water 4 to 5 times per day along with cutting out carbs. It took me less than a month to totally get rid of my GERD.
I also went the same thing but less severe as you. My doctor prescribed me with Omeprazole because of refluxing acid for 1 week, however, it didn't end my acid reflux so I would continue taking omeprazole whenever I get acid reflux and it still didn't end my acid reflux and after a few months, I encountered dr. eric's channel and found out that I shouldn't take antacids when I kept getting acid reflux day in and day out but rather, I should increase the ph and amount of my acid so I took Apple cider vinegar like dr. eric said and after taking 2 tsp everyday, I finally ended my chronic acid reflux thanks to dr. eric and his informative videos.
Thank you, I will try this, the second dose of Proton Pump my shortness of breath and heart beating fast, I put them in garbage, I drank lots of herbal tea i felt a lot better, now I will try ACV, thanks.
There's another video where Dr. Berg says GERD is caused by a vitamin B1 and Zinc deficiency. Don't know why he doesn't talk about it in this video. Vitamin B1 needs to be taken in the form of non-fortified nutritional yeast. You could have gotten rid of GERD within a few hours going this route. But it's a good thing you decided to cut down on carbs/sugar bc you couldnt have stopped GERD without doing so bc that's what helped you build back up your zinc and B1. If you ever eat too many carbs and your symptoms reappear, just take non-fortified nutritional yeast and zinc complex, (or a few oysters instead), and it will be gone in a few hours up to maybe a day at most. ACV is also very important :)
I wouldnt say anything bad about pantoprazole. To lay people, especially those without health insurance in the US, pharma might be evil. But pantaprazole is SO effective when treating upper GI bleeds and stomach ulcers. It also gets rid of pylori bacteria. It's usually prescribed for temporary treatment. If youre taking a lot of medication already because youre unhealthy, youre also prescribed pantoprazole because your stomach might not be able to handle all those difficult medications at once. 90% of the people who go into hospitals for repeat issues are unwilling to change their diet or lifestyle so medication is really the only bandaid given. Personal issues about not improving diet and lifestyle are not doctor issues, theyre patient issues.
It amazes me how ignorant most md’s really are. I stopped going to a medical doctor when I was 16. I only see chiropractors that practice applied kinesiology and are natural paths.
Dr. Berg, thank you for another informative video. I do have a question regarding supplementing with B. HCl - when your digestive symptoms improve, do you start to decrease the dosage? Will your stomach become "lazy" and not produce acid any more due to the abundant B. HCl, and then you are stuck with taking the supplement for life?
⚠️⚠️ Please DON'T just jump into 3 capsules of this stuff- you can really hurt yourself if you take too much! 😱 You need to start with a low dose and gradually work your way up. I usually start people off with 1/2 of a low dose tablet called Hydro-zyme, then they may eventually "graduate" to using 500 mg capsules.
(I will add, however, that the rest of this video is SPOT ON. And yes, you may get up to 8 or 9 pills. I just start people off at a much more conservative starting dose.)
@@alexanderohanlon8825 I've worker with people who tried betaine HCl before working with me and they really hurt their stomach starting off to gun-ho 😥 It's a powerful tool, so we need to be cautious with it.

Dr Berg. I have had acid reflux so bad, have had a scope and no damage. I watched your video and have your advanced digestive formula (plus more of your supplements) and took up to 8 before meals for a few weeks and backed down to 3 now and it has done wonders for my reflux. I hardly have any problems anymore. I am so pleased and thank you for your helpful, informative videos.
For years, I was led to believe that my Acid Reflux was caused by eating; a)too much acidic foods; b)basically eating too much; c)drinking soda or alcohol; d)spicy foods. This video has me rethinking a lot of that. I have a Previcid prescription that I take on occasion, especially when I am traveling (thus eating out). When I limit my food intake, especially in the evening, I do not get heartburn during the night. Lately, I have been sleeping with my head and shoulders elevated by two pillows, so as to minimize the discomfort. Your video and some testimonies stated here have given me ideas that I will definitely incorporate into my diet.
I suffered GERD decades ago for two years. I lost weight terribly, had anxiety, lost of breath. I went to doctor but the meds he gave me didn't work. You are right Dr. BERG.. I had lots of stress and thinking so much. I stayed away from acidic food but it didn't help. Until I tried the ACV. It helped a lot and the best that helped me was fiberhealth. Im loving acidic food too because of what I learned from you. I never take antacid. That won't help me either.
Have been doing the 2 tablespoons of ACV for a few days and so far am very pleased. Ordered the Fairchild brand. Until it comes I am using Braggs. Thank you.
I'm just starting ACV. Did it work right away for you? I'm finding it's working for a short time, but I'm also getting this pressure in my chest. Did you have anything like this?
I am having success with ACV. I take a tablespoon in half a glass of water before each meal. It started working immediately for me. I am also chewing my food more thoroughly.
I suffered severe acid reflux for years - the burning pain in my throat was excruciating, and it even burned my Bronchial tubes which would set me off coughing till I was almost vomiting - and the cough (productive) would last for a week. I was already on PPI's and swallowing antacid tablets like they were jelly beans. It got so that I was scared to go to sleep at night and would lie awake for hours if I felt little burps coming up - which to me was a sign of imminent reflux. How did I get rid of it? - five months ago I started to eat an apple every day after my main meal of the day, and from the very first day my acid reflux problem vanished! You may think it is just a coincidence but I notice in the comments APPLE cider is mentioned. I no longer fear acid reflux bouts - my only fear is that I should forget to eat my Apple!
Very seldom do I comment on RU-vid videos but I felt compelled to do so in this case. I’ve been taking omeprazole for 10 years+. After reading about it’s potential links to gastric cancers I decided to look at ways to get off. This method has worked 100% for me after just one week. Thank you so much for this sterling advice and once again highlighting just how flawed modern medicine is. Classic example of treating the symptom not the cause.
Thank you so much Dr Berg. I just have 1 or 2 questions. What strength (mg) Betain HCI should I take e.g. 250 or 650 and can I take Apple cider vinegar as well as the Betain HCI ? I stopped taking my medication prescribed by my GP and I am now taking Slippery elm twice a day and Licorice Root Extract DGL and Apple cider vinegar 15mn before a meal. I am getting better, but can not eat big meals yet. I get very bad pain in my esophagus. I had an endoscopy and every thing was fine: stress related. Thank you again for all the info you are given everyone.
THANK YOU, Dr. Berg! I healed my acid reflux disease following your advice. I stopped taking my medication (Nexium) after 14 years. Then I started taking HCL Betaine pills, anywhere from 4-8 per meal. I did that regularly for several months until my body was able to start making its own acid w/o me taking the HCL Betaine. I also started doing IF and low carb meals. It has been exactly a year since I stopped taking Nexium and never looked back. So thank you so much for all your knowledge and for helping the world heal what doctor can't even figure out. Instead, they are simply putting us on different medications, causing other side effects that are so harmful to our bodies.
This guy is a hack. A load of stuff that is not based on: physiology, anatomy, pharmacology. Bits of truth in here, but too many bits of distruth for me.
I have been considering needing to get surgery for a fundoplasty to repair my lower esophageal sphincter because it has no reflex left. The doctors told me I could never get that reflex back. I have to be on meds constantly and suffer from a hernia as well. I'm showing this video to my doctors at my next appointment!
I had the same problem and I started taking Apple Cider Vinegar with salt and lemon as my first meal and intermediate fasting for 3 months. I changed my diet completely. Try that!
Your Dr will laugh at you just like my Dr did. They are from a different system designed to be using pharmaceutical products. Anything else doesn't register with them.
You need acid to trigger the reflex also you need melatonin to suppress acid production at bedtime and sleep time. They will reject what is said here and offer PPI meds. Omeprazole and other PPI meds are a toxic melatonin analogues. "They are the most potent inhibitors of acid secretion available today. Omeprazole (one of the PPIs) and melatonin have similarities in their chemical structures. Therefore, we could consider omeprazole as a rough copy of melatonin. In this paper, we compare the advantages and disadvantages of the clinical use of melatonin and PPIs." ---Ricardo De Souza Pereir The PPI meds suppress stomach acid at the wrong times of the day. The PPI meds cause free radicals whereas melatonin is a powerful antioxidant.

Dr. Berg, I'm a 54 year old menopausal woman, and I fast 3.5 days a week. I get horrid reflux while fasting, which doesn't seem to make sense since my stomach's empty. When I'm not fasting, certain acidic low-carb foods make it much worse-lemon juice or tomato based sauces set me on fire, LOL, but I have reflux even with steak tips and a salad... and the one time I supplemented with Betaine supplement (while already having reflux), one single tablet made my feel like an active volcano, the burning was so bad. This led me to believe that perhaps I really do produce too much acid, and I was talked into a low-dose PPI by my doctor. The problem is that it's no longer working. I take it daily and the reflux has become bad again. I've had an upper GI and have no anatomical anomalies, though I was recently diagnosed with esophageal spasm, which, of course, is triggered by reflux. I already supplement zinc, chloride and potassium and do not supplement calcium. When I can't stand the burning any longer, I use baking soda in water for relief. My doctor wants to up the PPI dose but I believe that has to be another way. Is there anything else I might try that you didn't cover here?
Hello. Google Sole water with pink Himalayan salt. Let the pink settle and don’t drink the pink. It’s iron oxide. Take Zypan from Standard Process with your meals.
There's a gadget called Iqoro that you exercise with x3 daily. It strengthens muscles from mouth to stomach. As we get older the sphincter to the stomach loosen meaning acid flows back up the oesophagus. Exercise to strengthen the sphincter & I read, that you actually need ro increase the acid in the stomach as its the acid that helps keep the sphincter closed. So I also take ACV in water night & morning, use the Iqoro, don't eat processed foods, pastry, cakes, very little bread, no alcohol & sleep propped up. I have stopped taking the medication as I believe it was reducing the stomach acid too much & if I stopped taking it for a couple of days, I felt so ill & then had tremendous pain. Not any more, thank goidness Have managed to
I have acid reflux for years. I followed your recommendations like taking the betaine hydrochloride, ACV, vit.D, Zinc, probiotics. But nothing works. Am I missing anything why nothing works? I need your advice. Thank you, Dr. Berg.
Thank you for the video, Dr. Berg. Very helpful. One thing I would suggest, though, is instead of telling us how many pills to take, tell us how many milligrams of HCI to take, since the mg fluctuates wildly, depending on which brand you buy. Any info on this would be appreciated.
I had nausea for two years, after being prescribed Boniva for osteoporosis.A gastroenterologist did an endoscopy and told me I had a highly acidic stomach. He also said that I had a hiatel hernia, but he said lots of people have that with no problems. Over a year’s time he put me on five different anti-nausea medicines. I had no idea there were that many. Anyway, most of those meds helped me for a month or two and then I would get the nausea back. My niece had suggested Braggs apple cider vinegar but I didn’t think a natural solution would work for me. After two years of on again, off again relief, I tried the apple vinegar. I had immediate relief! I continued to take it for the next two weeks, and over time I forgot about it because I wasn’t having nausea anymore. I know that it is good for health anyway, but I hate the taste and I haven’t taken it for 2 years now. The nausea has not returned!
So, I am trying to get off my stomach medication(esomeprazole). A doctor prescribed them to me over 10 years ago. Apparently, people aren't supposed to be on them for long periods of time. He told me I would need to be on them for life. Further research revealed a bunch of side effects that I am experiencing, like high blood pressure and dry patches of skin around my body. I only eat whole foods, haven't drank alcohol in over 9 years, exercise 7 days a week, and only eat whole food. So far, I am 9 days into this therapy, and it doesn't seem to be working. Is there a time frame in which we may see some results because it is pretty painful. My doctor is trying to tell me the side effects I am experiencing isn't from the medication and says I need to stay on the medication but I so not trust him at all and think most doctors are just big pharm salesman. They like to just prescribe medication to treat symptoms, not the actual cause. Not sure what to do but all I know is I am not going back on those medications.
I have suffered with GERD and heartburn for years. I am a Type A blood type and we have low stomach acid. After watching a few of your videos, I started on HCL, 3 at first then have worked my way up to 6. If I am eating something I really shouldn't based on my blood type, I add an additional HCL. It has helped me tremendously. I also added the zinc and have always used sea salt. Thank you, Dr. Berg for all the health advice you provide!
@@shoumeiyan6221 I started on 2, I've found that taking 3 works just fine but if your heartburn comes on after eating or the morning after, try taking 2 or 3 without food, it's worked wonders for me, I mean happiness restored!
Is it safe to take long term?I have been suffering with sinuses issues ,postnasal drip(also h pylori )that might be due to silent reflux, nothing helps and I am desperately looking for a solution!
That post nasal drip has been giving hell for 17 years. Coughing constantly. It was manageable until a few weeks ago when it flared right up. Been taking Zinc and Vit A and raised my bed head and it seems a bit better and I'm going to add potassium as bananas give me stomach ache.
I used to get woken up at night with the stupid heartburn almost nightly, even on a fasted stomach. What I did, was jump off a step a bunch of times with a stomach full of water….. worked like a charm & haven’t had it since. I hope this free fix helps someone.
Well I'm the odd one cause an empty stomach many times makes me get acidity and feel I need to eat Hoping it will calm it down it seems it does at first but after a hour I go right back to it and sometimes belching up a little food. It's such a pain in the gut! I've wondered why I feel acidic or stomach hurts when I haven't ate ...Like you said first thing in the morning!
Hi Dr Berg, I'm an avid fan. No-one explaines how stuff works like you. Clear & simple. I've just learned how to manage my acid reflux. It plagues me! Thank you, for all the learning I've achieved about my body over the years. I don't write in the comments, however u are the exception u deserve full credit for pulling together all the research and presenting it so clearly then giving solutions to so many health issues. A BIG THANK YOU from my ❤️ Mags, Dublin Ireland.
First of all, thank you Dr. Berg for all of your honesty and candor. Second, I had my gall bladder removed at age 31 and am now 71. Can I still take betaine hydrochloride safely? I have very severe silent night time reflux to the extent that my new ENT discovered that my throat, voice box, and tonsils were being fried for years. Thus, a ton of tonsil infections every year with antibiotics. The pain had become terrible just to talk. My PCP and I were afraid I had throat cancer, so I saw the ENT to rule that out, since he is also a board certified cancer cosmetic/reconstructive surgeon. He put me on an anti reflux diet after scoping me in detail and the PPI omeprozole 40 mg. He directed me to sleep elevated by about 6 inches. This has all helped greatly, but my dermatologist, who had decades of practice experience and is more holistic in his approach, is really concerned for me to be on PPIs for the rest of my life. Can I take the betaine HCL? Please and thank you. I have very strong bones now, but do not want that to change.
i am in the same boat , my problem also is a im a poor metabolizer all medication on me become toxic because my liver is slow to process medication ,my galbladder was remove at the 24 years old , now i am 62 my main symptoms if the phlegm in the throat and cough ,back in 2016 regular dosis of ppi send me in the hospital with ideopatic gastroparesis ,was the most scary thing ever happen to me
I no longer take my prescribed PPI. I do take betaine HCL. This video will help me to refine the dosage, along with the required minerals. Thanks, Dr. Berg.
Look up Dr John Sarno and Dr Howard Schubiner on healing from pain - chronic pain is a stress/emotional response not a physiological problem. Good luck 🙏🏻
@@TheATdragonfly Indeed. That works fine for me and it has no noticeable side effects for me either. Of course it's not a permanent cure, it just suppresses the symptoms.
Hi Dr. Berg. Is it okay to take with an ingredient called pepsin? Also when you say start with one do you mean from your product which is 100mg? I see other brands that have a capsule with 1000 mg. Thank you.
When I started eating more meat and no carbs, acid reflux all but left. I now eat more natural sea salt on my food and use electrolytes as well. One thing I realized this week was that eating whole meats makes me chew my meals, unlike the carbs I was eating, as those don't require so much chewing. I'm certain this was a key component to producing more digestive enzymes.
I don't know, I think I'd rather follow the advice of a real doctor, not the "advice" of a non-medical doctor on RU-vid. I'd highly advise others to do the same and to search this guy's name, maybe take a look on Rational Wiki. Simple answer for my reflux and associated dysphagia: stop drinking nightcaps. Very unhealthy thing to do. 8 weeks omeprazole prescribed to reverse the damage (not some random youtube advice to make it MORE acidic). Problem solved. Not a doctor myself but I suspect for most people their problems come back because they think the medication is resolving some random "glitch" that came up in their body, and don't resolve the underlying cause. Not because it's some weird mass conspiracy to go against the Hippocratic oath and knowingly prescribe something that does harm to the patient. There could be dangerous "advice" on this channel. Always listen to the people who earned their place in the GP's office, not monetized RU-vid videos. Misinformation is very lucrative ($4k for this video according to a site that checks)
Thanks Dr. Berg! The following has helped me: -mix one tablespoon of corn flour in room a 4-6oz temperature water. No bloating or acid reflux or heart burn especially at night! Also I drink a tablespoon of of apple cider in 6-8 oz room temperature water before bed. So far, no more sore throat, coughing and bloating!!! Try these…good luck! I use the Maizena corn flour sold at Walmart and Spanish grocery stores you may try other corn 🌽 flour products. All natural solutions have made my reflux acid and coughing manageable. Good luck!!!
Can anybody tell me that As dr berg said that when We have low acid in stomach Then LES valve becomes loose And we get heart burn But why when we have high acid In stomach LES should close tightly And again we get Heart burn as acid Goes up into esophagus I have also acidity But it goes up into Throat In gas form and feel so much Bitterness in mouth Also feel mucus lump in throat What should I assume It’s low acid or high in stomach Dr gave me ppl (nexium-40 mg/day) I am taking it from 15 years Can anybody advice me please I am so much confused
There is a test called the Heidelberg test. It's not commonly done, though, and I don't know how accurate it is. You're better off experimenting with a LOW dose of betaine HCl (start much lower than what he recommends here) and seeing if your symptoms improve.
@@namename1518 well, betaine HCl and/or apple cider vinegar is a good start. Mindful eating is ultimately the way to stimulate stomach acid production, though. Slowing down to really taste your food, enjoy your food, chew your food. That's what helps in the long run, but it takes time to unlearn the bad habit of rushed eating.
I have no gallbladder, so bile will be constantly dripping. So does this mean that I likely have too much acid?? I have recently learned that I have fundic polyps in my stomach and a small swelling on my esophegus. Could this all be due to too much acid please?
I love your videos Dr. Berg. I wish it was that simple for me. I tried HCL with Pepsin, I took just two and woke up in the middle of the night with my stomach burning so viciously I vowed to never try it again. I wish it was this simple but some of us can’t take HCL without this type of reaction, what do you suggest we do instead?
Hi, I get the same reaction. I know my stomach acid is not where it needs to be, I also have sibo. I have tried digestive bitters of various kinds, hcl, digestive enzymes, and I get acid reflux after taking them. It burns my throat bad! Wish they had recommendations for people like us!
The cause: not enough acid in stomach. The solution: decrease stress levels, increase zinc, sea salt, potassium. Decrease calcium. Take betain hydrochloride.
Amazing advice. I just ordered the Betaine Hydrochloride, and started Potassium and Zinc as my acid reflux dramatically increased lately. Nowadays it is vital to look beyond allopathic medicine, and into more natural remedies. Nothing does it better than nature. Thank you
If I have a cooling sensation in my esophagus, feel uncomfortable in my throat (almost like the aftertaste of toothpaste) is this also acid reflux? I have also been feeling vomiting sensation. I’m only comfortable in bed on my left side.
HI Dr Berg, Love your video's as always. I'm been suffering from reflux and related digestive issues for many years. Two questions re this video. 1) How come we are deficient in these minerals? I know people they can eat 3 fatty hamburgers + drink 1 liter of beer, eat little vegetables in general and have no problems whatsoever. So it;s about alleviating stress and supply deficient minerals? 2) the betaine hydro: will they fix my problem permanently? In other words: how do I reverse the problem on a permanent basis? Thank you?
Great to see that he heart reacted to your comment but didn't respond. I basically have the same ending question. How do you alleviate this on a long term basis or is it just a "buy my product" kinda thing in the end? The more videos from him I watch, the more I'm realizing he isn't "fixing" any of the problems, he's relieving the symptoms just like big pharma does.
Maybe the endoscopy gave me a hernia when all along my complaints of pain in my right rib is probably gall bladder disease. I'm definitely asking my specialist.
Please try apple cider vinegar. It cured my major problem of acid reflux. There are a lot of videos on RU-vid explaining the effect of Apple Cider vinegar on acid reflux.
Hi Dr. Berg--I was diagnosed with acid reflux and told to take the standard drugstore over-the-counter meds. Then, thankfully, I found your channel and in one of your videos you recommended apple cider vinegar before meals to help with this condition. I began drinking a tablespoon of a.c.v. in a 10 ounce glass of water right before each meal (usually 2 meals a day), and now, 3 months later, I feel fine again. I'm wondering - do you recommend betane hydrochloride now, rather than apple cider vinegar? The vinegar works for me so I'll keep taking it, but is the betane hydrochloride a better option? Many thanks for your fine work.
Betaine how long how can take like everyday or u til problem. Solve the. Leave I have ibs problem so is it safe to have for that Also just started magnesium So doesn’t go with it or not
Hi Dr. Berg. Thank you for this I formation on gut health. There are 2 basic types of issue with stomach acid. Lack of stomach acid or too much stomach acid. Too much stomach acid people are given meds such as Prilosec. How do you know whether you have too much or too little stomach acid?
QUESTION: if one supplements betaine HCL to build stomach acid, does that mean the body will stop producing it on its own? Thank you so much for all your research and work to inform us! My headaches have stopped forming after eating because of your knowledge on betaine HCL and ox bile, Thank You! 💛
@@YinYanUzumaki I would have headaches in forehead region and behind the eyes after eating things harder to digest (for me) ex: salads, cruciferous veggies, recently started eating meat again, so that too. Started taking 1200 mg of betaine hydrochloride and 500mg of ox bile and the headaches stopped after doing this. Have also tried Tudca which I thought was ox bile but is synthetic bear bile for all those vegans out there 👍🏼 I am thinking of increasing the doses for each as I can still feel pressure in head, but no aches 👍🏼 One other thing: I feel more awake now after taking these supplements for digesting...maybe I am absorbing the nutrients better which leads to more energy, a more wakeful state. Hope this helps 👍🏼💛
@@coffeesunset1965 hmm I get frequent migraines too and the Allopathic doctors around me didn’t root it to any cause so I took help of Ayurvedic doctor . He had done a nadi checkup and said I am having imbalances in the body . In addition to that I must be having high acidity ( I had disagreed with him on acidity part as I was not really getting any visible effects of it by then but started noticing shortly afterwards with my tooth enamel being discoloured and many more things) . He had also said that I am not producing enough bile and hence my body is not able to extract nutrition from food . Although he also said that I have been like that chronically and it’s a really long battle to fix it . Anyway 9 months on Ayurvedic prescription and now my migraines occur only once in a while as opposed to once in a week before . Also the intensity is now completely tolerable . However I am still waiting for it to go away completely - I understand that it might take longer than I am expecting . Thanks for your response . I am starting the use of another Ayurvedic remedy - alkaline water ( cucumber and lemon pieces in a glass of water to be drunk the next morning ) and hoping it helps as ACV doesn’t suit my body type as it immediately increases heat in my body causing me to even breakout and increases anger . I appreciate your response . Thankyou .
No acid reflux for the first time in years. My husband sent me this video to get the list of supplements I needed to stop acid reflux naturally. I realized I had all of these, except for Betaine HCL, in my pantry. Zinc, Potassium, and included Probiotic. I took 1 dose for each supplement and had my morning coffee and no acid reflux. This is day 4 with no issues. I have started taking Dr. Berg’s Betaine HCL formula along with the other supplements listed in the video. I feel great and am very happy with the results. Thank you Dr. Berg. Keep up the Good Work.
@@r.studio6170 have a table spoon in a glass of water when you wake up in the morning. First thing on an empty stomach. And make sure you drink it with a straw because acv damages the teeth.
@@r.studio6170 I diluted one teaspoon in half glass is water and drink before each meal. Also I have available in my night stand to using during the night, just in case.
Hi Dr Berg, thank you for your hard work in keeping us all informed 🙏 I am not comfortable with taking Betaine Hydroelectric Acid as I keep reading that you shouldn’t take it. So, can I just use Apple Cider Vinegar instead? Thank you.
My father who was a GP knew about betaine hydrochloride fifty years ago and successively prescribed this for the majority of his patients with this problem. There is a fabulous book by two research MDs about the importance of stomach acid. They also highly recomendable betaine hydrochloride. Start with small doses and take with meals
Betaine is a great methyl group contributor, a wonderful supplement. And the acid form, really helped me. I took the acid form with pepsin for six months and after that I was good. Some of what I see on Google is full on disinformation/untruth/lies. I took the acid form of betaine mid-meal not on an empty stomach.
Is it hard to do the surgery intervention to help close the valve? I heard people can become permanently free of gerd issue. Acidifying my stomach makes everything worse!
I certainly agree that the root cause of acid reflux is low stomach acid. The problem for me, and I suspect many others is that when I have bouts of acid reflux, if I was to take betaine hydrochloride it would only make the condition significantly worse. Timing of when to take HCL is tricky
In my case it was not low stomach acid. I used to drink a lot of bottled juices, orange , grapes, etc while working at the post office. After so many months drinking bottled juices I developed acid reflux. I tried different medications but to no avail, they only brought temporary relief. A friend recommended to eat red apples. I tried it and after a couple of days acid reflux was gone. My wife used Fuji apple and it worked also. The problem never came back.
Thank you Dr. Berg I have acid reflex for the longest time I take Pantoprazole for it, I don't get the burn sensation I get awful pain if I try to quit the pills.
@@sn3495 Yes, I started taking the Zinc 15mg 3 weeks ago and raised my bed head with two bricks. Last week, I added Vit A and it does seem to have cut my post nasal drip right down and night coughing but, my stomach feels a bit gassy. I got some natural Vit C and it was a no no for my stomach, so acidic food is not good for me. I tried the ACV a couple of years ago. On the second night, I had the worst stomach pain ever, for most of the night. So, I won't be trying that again but, this docter does say that could be caused by gastritis. I don't have an ulcer though. I'm going to add potassium next because bananas give stomache ache. I'm debating trying the HCL yet, as people are saying It's being taken off the shelves. But, that could be because it works. They want people on the pharmaceuticals for everything. $$$$ It's a right carry on but I had no trouble until I was given my prescription for a strong anti inflammatory drug without Lanzoperole in 2004. Keep me informed if you find anything to help.
