In this edition, Oakridge BBQ owner and master blender, Michael Trump talks about the 4 things which are harmful to spices, and then he discusses the best ways to store your spices and keep them fresh. www.oakridgebbq.com
Hey Mike, we do not use O2 absorbers when we package our rubs, and for short-term storage (less than 1 year) with opened packages, I still wouldn't bother using them. The most important thing is to keep the zipper free from spice particles each time you close the bag. That said, if you ever wanted to repack them for long term storage (>2 years) I would not hesitate in using an O2 absorber just to protect your investment, but you would also need to be able to heat seal the bag shut either by using a new bag or somehow resealing the original packaging. Hope this helps!
