In this how to video I show you how to fully strip down and service/maintain a Lima class 47. As the vast majority of Lima diesels use the same mechanism this video can be used on a multitude of Lima models including the Lima class 37, 50, 40, 33, hst, 59, 66, 60 etc. Hope you find this useful and enjoy the video.

Brilliant. Just dug 20 odd of my old Lima diesels from the late ‘80s out of the loft and couldn’t have asked for a more useful video.

I also don't use a Dremel tool on the commutator plate. I use lighter fluid and cotton buds. I suggest cleaning the gaps between the metal plates with a toothpick to remove any brush residue. I also lubricate the gears and pickup axles with a spot of technical petroleum jelly. I apply a tiny drop of a mix of sewing machine oil and technical petroleum jelly on the rotor bearings. This results in the Lima G type motor running smoother and quieter.

Thanks so much for showing me this,my Lima Class 47 turned up yesterday and its the first Lima i have owned that you have to remove the buffers to remove the body shell !

I wouldn’t consider myself a Lima man lol but I do enjoy working on Lima models. They may be old and basic but they are indestructible
