Finally got around to watching this, super insightful! I'm slowly figuring out each "band member's" role in my setup after getting some new gear, planning to use the MPC as the brains of it all, along with a few other tasks

Wow man, you are the BEST teacher of this art form you're so incredible at! 🙌❤️✌️ Thanks so much for everything Edit addendum: the part at 24:44 is so easy to overlook. When I first heard that my favorite artists would use the same 2-4 kicks in like every song, my mind was BLOWN away! But, it's clear af when you think about it. My favorite albums from before drum machines were usually just one drum kit and the same few instruments. Just because every 16th note can be a different sample, doesn't mean it SHOULD be🤣

Nice move with the sub37… recalling preset is far more convenient at pattern change than tweaking the old behringer on the fly!

I guess there different beasts and for fingerprint work the recall is handy. Still the love tweaking has its advantages too.

Are you changing the tempo during a set? Are you putting the full set (all songs) in a single project on the MPC/OT? That's where I'm struggling right now. I have all my songs in their own project. Still trying to figure out the writing process specifically for performing live because it's going to be hard for me to put all my separate project songs into one single project and they're all different tempos. These transitions make sense, but I feel like the missing piece is the project organization/optimization side of getting ready for a show.

Hi David, thanks for watching. I’m sticking within a same project on the mpc. Just chop your workflow into bite size chunks and grow the build from there. Look at hardware less like a daw and approach it more simple. If you’re in a band you wouldn’t swap out your guitar 🎸 for every song.

@@AnalogKitchen thanks so much! Looks like next step is building out a single project, so far I've been making a project for every idea. Obviously switching between them means no sound while things are loading so I've been trying to think around that.

Playing Live Techno is an accident waiting to happen. I sure hope so, because it is those unexpected directions that allow you to take a collection of your own sounds into somewhere you didn't expect and ride a wave of energy to where it wants to go. Nothing feels better than doing your own head in with sounds you made 🤣🤣👍👍😎😎

So all your songs are in one big MPC project? I’ll have to see if that is an option an elektron setup

That might not work. And I guess it depends on what sound you’re making. But for me I have my Akai do music, have the Octa do the slicing and dicing so it’s how you want to do it. If I was merely loop or loopsequence based than I would have the Octa be master sensei

@@AnalogKitchen It seems it should be possible with the Patterns function. for changing the instruments could be done with the parts function but i will have to test if i can change the part and pattern at the same time, or if parts are controlled by patterns UPDATE: Yes parts are dependent on your pattern, so for each pattern you can auto select which part should be selected. Since there are four parts, you could make for songs with different instruments and settings in one project. Or more if you get creative about it, like having more drumkits in a single sample and using slices and parameter locks :)
