The "Don't expect professors to teach" is so true. Most of this is independent work.

DO NOT LET YOUR HOMEWORKS PILE UP. I can't stress this enough, whenever you get an assignment, DO IT IMMEDIATELY despite you having a lot of free time and the deadline being very far away. You never know what sorts of crazy homeworks are going to be assigned by your professors in the next couple of days, and they can pile up REAL FAST.

For the introverts who mess up their reputation: There's a lot of people who don't care about it, so you can still make friends.

Tbh, college for me was far less toxic than high school. The majority of everyone there was only concerned about chasing their future.

My advice: don’t waste your time and money with textbooks. Often times, your professor will assign reading AND give you a lecture over the same content. Only one is necessary almost 100 percent of the time. Also, don’t take notes if you don’t have to. Many students will end up not listening to the lecture bc they’re too busy copying down the PowerPoint slides. Usually, these slides are available to you, so I’d advise you just sit there and listen to the lecture, perhaps jotting down the most important notes if you feel like it. I know this all seems like bad advice bc it contradicts what we’ve been told, but it will ease your stress/workload and give you more free time. I’ve maintained a 4.0 without reading and while taking very few notes. Just give it a try.

These advices are really handy. If only I haven't already spend 3+ years in college....

Forgot one of the most important ones: Learn to do everything yourself, even if it is a group project.

You forgot to mention Quizlet. It’s literally the only reason why I passed my IST classes. Not once did I open my books for any class. Education is joke nowadays.

If you have any spare time at all during college, spend it exercising. It feels great to have a healthy body, plus it feels great to have your highschool friends be amazed at your body transformation that you went through in college when you meet them again at reunions

I think another one on the list should be: when you’re in a tough class, make some acquaintances in the class and form some study groups when exam time gets closer. I can’t tell you the amount of times study groups helped get me through some classes. Going through the material with other people and making an outline together can be a lifesaver.

My English teacher outsmarted that final point by giving us homework on the 2nd day.

I’m sad that so many people have experienced bad professors. I had great professors in college who were very knowledgeable, helpful, and wanted all of us to succeed. They had amazing knowledge about their specialities. I really enjoyed lectures, and I enjoyed group discussions. I’m very fortunate to have had great professors.

I always had classes that start before 10am. I just felt like it was better to take classes in the morning just to get it out of the way and then study in the afternoon.

0:53 literally happened to me. I dropped one of my English classes after the professor tried to give us 13 homework assignments on the first day.

That one about "don't expect your teachers to actually teach you" is really sad. I don't think I've honestly had one good professor that teaches super well in class. I realize as a Computer Science student a lot of it is self-learning, but I'd still haven't had a teacher sit down and legitimately teach me how to code. Lectures are honestly more like an overview of things you've already learned yourself at home. If you don't study excessively at home, then lectures are usually just a confusing mess where they assume you know everything and vaguely go over these large topics, though it's not entirely their fault as they probably don't have enough time.

"Don't expect professors to teach". That's true. Most of the things I know are either I learned from training or self-study.

I'm in community college so not everything applies but it's pretty true. There's only 20-30 people or so in each of my classes. It's just school but i'm treated like an adult and i love it

I so wish you'd come out with this video when I was a freshman. There were so many things on this list that I didn't do right and that I now regret.

Another good tip is prioritize passing above all else. A lot of college is just bs classes. So if it doesn’t pertain to your major and what you want to do in life… just cheat. Pass it by any means possible and study and focus on your actual major classes. I’m a bio major who is going into the therapy field. I can do anything biology related in my sleep and get an A. Only problem is I had a lot of Chem and physics classes with teachers who can’t teach. I struggled in those classes which in turn made me struggle in my other classes. That was until I learned the art of cheating 😩. Just pass. But study hard for your major classes. You don’t want to be the guy that doesn’t know stuff relating to their major but you also don’t want to be the guy stressing over an irrelevant class

One way to save money: Go to a college near your home so that you wont have to worry about housing, food, traveling far.

College is GREAT, but seriously be careful with mental health freshman year, it comes at you fast and will overwhelm you more than once, make sure you get put of your dorm/room even just to go sit in a study room. Changing your scenery can change your attitude and mindset considerably.

Considering I am socially anxious around kids my own age, I feel blessed to live in a big city around the best universities in the country so I don't have to worry about dorms, roommates, and will still be able to come home to my parents and sleep in my own bed after a long day. I genuinely feel bad for people who have to travel hundreds if not thousands of miles away from their homes they've known for years and live with (and share a personal life with) a bunch of strangers for years on end. I’m glad I caught this one now😭😭I’m about to go in to sophomore year. Can’t stress the first year enough. The last thing you want is a low gpa and to be put in academic probation because you were skipping and sleeping(me)🙄🙄it will stress you out when u have to do your second semester and fight to stay enrolled😂😂luckily I’m enrolled still👏🏾🤧😪

As an instructor: Skipping classes indicates a student should not be in college Fluff classes are a great idea, have fun Classes in the early morning are bad from both sides of the class Homework is not optional; it prepares students for class and to be able to pass Office hours do help if confused, they also give indication that you actually want to be a part of the class. Independent learning is the college experience; if this is not your style- try a tech school or the job market: no shame. Write down homework….then do that homework. IF you did all the other work then one test will not fail you! Clubs are a useless distraction, make real contacts with people within your class….you already have something in common and it is connected to college. Rent textbooks for all base level classes, once you start classes as a junior the texts are usually used beyond the classroom. Finally: If you use homework as a measure of wether you drop a class, then you need to think about why you are even in college: McDonald’s is always hiring.

I’m thankful I had good professors… except for one. Orientation in my freshman year. He took it so seriously, gave us a quiz on the second day about the syllabus without notice and was an actual grade, made us do a 10 page project report, deleted all online notes a week before the final exam without telling us. I really considered dropping it. I somehow finished with a C…. It was a class about how to be a college student and it was my hardest class in all of my 4 year. I finished with honors.

summary: i personally give up in life and just drown myself in fantasies 'till i die.

This is far more beneficial than the teachers who assign tons of homework saying it’s to “prepare you for college”.

having a group or even a friend that I knew from college really save my whole 3 years of life in uni because I realized that I never struggle in making a groupmate for any coursework. and also, the branch of acquaintances also easy to build starting from there because some of my friends are from different major. even when I missed the orientation week, it was fine by me. its a plus when those people are good and not a leech. if you can carry them, dont leave them behind.

I remember a teacher on a 7am class, on the first day of the semester, the first thing she said was: "Did you guys did the homework? I send an email yesterday about a homework due today" At soon as that class ended I drop out of that class
