In Pt.7 of the MK2 1.8t swap series we finally get to install the engine. I talk about why I used the Corrado G60 transmission and the motor mount brackets. Then we install the bumper brackets, crossmember's and engine.
Again I'm just trying to put some information out and hope it helps someone.

I sense your frustration. There's a bunch of ways to get things done with the VW lego. I try to ignore anyone who starts a comment with "Why don't you just" or "Just do x". You're figuring it out and there's a great satisfaction on the other side of that. I just got my kid's VR6 swap to start the other day and all that head scratching and research will make it all the more worthwhile. Keep up the good work.

That downpipe should work. You could just have the old bung welded shut. Buy a weld on bung and just move it to a spot where you have more clearance.

That is a good idea. But now that I know the stock one fits I’m thinking about actually buying this $52 and seeing if it fits. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is the best advice given to date, “ya but the super fancy Exhaust that is no better than the original and gains only 10hp. I’ve always bought second hand parts or modified old parts. Who cares I’ve dealt with people who try and show off -You have have the most HP in your car but if it’s too noisy to drive or still sitting on the ground in your garage it’s a waste of time. What matters is getting the project finished and on the road and to a car show. You don’t have to have the best car in the world but one that’s driving is always better than any Loooooong term project car

If you are looking for an aftermarket downpipe that isn't overpriced check out Raceland. Theirs is $150 free shipping also what I did was take it to the exhaust shop local to me and had him do 3" straight pipe from flexpipe back.

The engine floated in! I dread pulling the engine on my 225 tt when it gives up the ghost :'( Rawson to the rescue. Don't have a Mk2 but mk4 this video is very informative

You need to rotate the downpipe counterclockwise 90 degrees. I did it and it fit perfectly.

I have a mk2 Jetta with a cracked KR 16v engine, I’m planning to get a KR however due to the lack of availability of the KR engines in South Africa, I’m open to an engine swap to a MK4 1.8t or a AAA VR6 engine. You have done both, according to your knowledge, which swap would you recommend for a novice enthusiast like me?

Mk4 VR6 24v all day lol. Way easier, less parts to find, I’d be done right now if I was doing one. But it really depends on what you want the car for. My 24v is more of a roadtrip car. This 1.8t is going to be for track, spirited driving. Two very different set up cars. A real track set up car you will not like driving it for a daily. My 24v is amazing to drive all day.
