Thanks Logan! I saw and ordered the brass back spacer that I think will complete this build perfectly! Thanks for making great stuff and following up on feedback!
Really nice of you folks interacting with small content creators. I'd been on the fence getting scales from you folks or from a local scale maker, but now I know I'll be ordering from you. 🤘🤘
Hello. I would like to ask you a question: I used to have the AD 10, and its liners were made of aluminum. In the AD 20.5 and yours, the liners are made of steel, but I don't know what type of steel. Do you think it's necessary to apply any oil to this part? I'm not referring to the part of the liners that face the scales, as those are protected, but to the part facing the blade
I'm not sure what the composition is but I think it's pretty corrosion resistant. I'm sure it would rust if you dropped it in salt water but for regular pocket time I'd doubt oil is necessary.
Scales sounds really cool but a confusing term. I would consider these grips as it adheres better to our language. English. Scales are usually found on things that are alive. Fish lizards and they can even weigh you which is cool. Scales? Is this slang or is this the real terminology knife experts use?
Hey Stig! Scales is indeed the lingo (predominant nomenclature if you will) in the knife world for folding knives. It is a bit odd, but the term used! Thanks for watching!
Brahhh they do sell a titanium back spacer, I just bought it with these scales in blue! Gives the blade a bit of a different ring when the blade is swung closed
Thanks for watching and lookin' out! They didn't at the time of the video because I bought the scales on the day they dropped. I have a brass backspacer in this knife now! Catch ya on the next one, more Demko content comin in hot!
Very True! I’m super glad though that they released replacements quickly after this. The knife is now rocking a brass backspacer and it’s fun! Thanks for watching!
@Ol' Bubs yes the lime green looks crazy good with black blade. Just got mine in all black and about to order the lime scales. Although they have a new wood grain texture look I'm trying to decide which to do. Thanks for the reply 👍
ive never seen a locking knife that could be swung open by holding it upside down by the handle and swinging it. is the detent soft enough for it to accidentally open in your pocket?
Hey Paul, the detent is definitely strong enough to keep closed in your pocket. It actually takes a bit of practice to open the knife that way. I’ve found that actually almost all spring related mechanisms (axis style locks etc.) can open this way if you flick them hard enough. It won’t happen by accident though!
I just received my AD20.5 and find the lock release to be very sharp. Is this normal for a new knife. I’m hoping after awhile maybe the spring will soften and won’t require as much pressure on the release. I’m sure I won’t have a problem using it but I’m glad I’m not one to be flipping it around all the time.
The spring will definitely soften a bit over time, but you can also just knock the edge of the gimping down a touch with a file or sand paper. It hasn’t really bothered me, but I also do have calluses on my fingers from flipping knives a little too often. Thanks for watching and take care!!
Put these same scales on my 3V and bought the black titanium backspacer from Flytanium at the same time to match the rest of my hardware. It was perfecto.
i changed my scales last week and dont even need to remove the liner at all just remove the scales and replace threads on spacer and done. no need at all for a full disassemble
Thanks for watching and the insight. It’s certainly a fair point, especially if the knife has been recently cleaned/lubricated. I find myself preferring to disassemble and clean most times, and sometimes getting the pivot pushed back through can be tricky if you opt to not take it all the way apart. Enjoy your fresh scales!
