Nice job! The only suggestion I would add is that in general with these guys it's a good idea to avoid doing enclosure maintenance or handling at night. My Green Tree Python is a very gentle soul, and I can do any enclosure maintenance needed during the day; it doesn't bother him at all. But at night, much MUCH more so than any of my other snakes, he goes into predator mode. He hangs there in ambush position and is extremely alert and reactive to even slight movement, so sticking my hand in there for any reason would not be a good idea. It's just his feeding response, but it's intense.

This is so true!!! Thank you so much for adding this. They are a different snake at night time 😂

Great job, Tricia. As a GTP keeper myself, I can safely say that you really nailed the handling advice. 👍🏻

@@pewpewcat7679 lol I told my husband I want a snake and he said no your not getting a snake a few months later i got a ball python I now have 2 snakes 2 leopard geckos and a credted gecko he's ok with them now but still won't hold any of them
@pewpewcat7679
@pewpewcat7679 4 года назад
@@luvlost03 haha. Yeah most people that don't like snakes just have these preconceived notions and once they actually see a snake, or any reptile for that matter, in person, they get over it. Risky to just get them but I'm glad it's worked out for you.

I'm researching GTPs, because I want to get one. There's a book by Justin Julander and Terry Phillip that I would highly recommend this one to anyone who is keeping GTPs, or to someone who is thinking about keeping them in the future.

Have you ever heard of target training snakes? I've been watching Lori Torrini's videos about how she target trains all of her snakes and I feel like you would he amazing at it and that your green tree python would be an excellent candidate for it. She's a professional animal behaviorist. She never forces the animals or grabs them without their consent, she just trained then to follow a target and then leads them to activity spaces and they have the choice to interact with her, their environment or go back in the enclosure. It works really well with food motivate snakes. She target them to go to the scale to weigh them without her having to grab her. She'll target them to a safe activity area while she cleans the enclosure. You just totally have the right respect and temperament to work with snakes like that and it would make excellent content. I know this is an old video but I hope you see this and consider :) she does video consultations, she did one with another RU-vidr (reptiles and research) where she guide him through a training session with his Mexican black king snake. It's just really great for snakes that can be defensive they really learn to trust you through that kind of training.

Hey Trisha! I’m a huge fan of yours! Thank you for always posting such educational videos on a variety of pets!! Could you maybe do a video of pac man frog care? I know there is a lot of research I could do on my own, which I have because I’m currently a new pac owner, but on RU-vid there is not enough care videos, and I trust your videos and go by them for care. Your very knowledgeable about different animals care and I know you own or have owned a pac as well! Thanks so much! Please keep being awesome, and posting wonderful educational videos!!
