The majority of this video is great. However the "tempo" thing is all wrong and a terrible thing to tell someone for hardcore tanking. You should not be looking to push a tempo as a starting point for any HC dungeon run, only with experienced/insync teams. It just takes one time where someone needed a little bit more mana, thought they could just do something irl (because in game they were drinking), starting drinking so started typing afk when you charged off or just lost step with your pace (due to drinking) that will get inexperienced people and whole groups killed. ON every pull you need to know the whole team is ready for the next set of mobs or boss. You really should walk that one back. Tempo is learned from experience but also good communication with your group and all groups are different. One day you could have an amazing healer that is able to juggle and dance in and out of the 5 second rule and using down rank heals optimally to produce great results. On other days you have someone who doesn't even know what anything in my last sentence meant.
In HC the Casual Player should NOT rush the Dungeon like you said. And it is better to use a shield. Some tips in your Guide is more for the MAX Aggro and Group DMG and the Speed Running Meta. The Casual Player should not do one thing in a Dungeon, and that is to die. Your Guide is not bad, but has not one Single Ref. to HC and that is why I watched it.
Agree to disagree. A new player with a shield will generate no rage and the experienced dps will continue to pull threat, then blame the tank. Now the tank is discouraged and doesn’t play ala the tank shortage. A tank with no experience should be able to tank 2H or DW with no issues at all from RFC to about RFK. If there’s an issue it’s more than likely a healer issue, which is then a good time to go shield. If they play slow the new tank won’t realize they have no rage every single pull and that leads to no threat. Thanks for watching.
There is some sense in what you are saying. With a decent healer a DPS tank works well. I levelled vanilla, classic and now am levelling HC as a prot warrior. It is slow, its painful and it sucks at rage. However at the same time I get my groups to use CC even in RFC. One mob at a time. It takes a lot longer but my HP doesn't drop and everyone comes out alive. It is also good practice of getting people to use the techniques they will need as things get higher. I joined a HC RFC on my hunter and had an Arms tank. It took a third of the time to clear RFC as he pulled 3-4 mobs at a time. However his HP was ping ponging up and down all the time. They were swapping to a shield occasionally as well, but it looked dangerous. At some point that strategy is going to get people killed. The tank will die and then the group. There is no need for efficiency with one run per day... what's the rush? Play smart, play safe and be proud that more than likely the whole team will be making it out alive. Or you could just dual wield fury build to try and get baron down with 20 min left on the timer. I feel bad that there will be more corpses littering the floors of dungeons due to your suggestions.
If you want to grief your whole group and have a higher chance of a wipe - tank with a shield. The only scenario in which for me you would say that - is that you haven't tanked a single dungeon in classic with a warrior. Good luck getting threat with a shield when DPS pulls off aggro almost immediately on 3 mobs, which leads to you not getting any rage at all => even less chance to get the aggro back. So, in fact, tanking with a 2H or DW is safer than tanking with a shield ;)
@@radiiliev1892 I tanked Vanilla pre-nerf Scholo with a shield. I tanked up to 4 horsemen Vanilla with a shield. I tanked in the classic era with a shield. Now I tank in HC with a shield. You are 100% correct about threat. Your DPS can go all out quicker with 2h or DW tanking. However they shouldn't have to. They don't even need to. It was classic era with retail thinking that pushed the DPS must DPS all the time mentality to the top. These days its not about how quickly you get it done, its making sure everyone comes out the other side alive. Who cares if it is done 10 mins faster, if people die its game over. Its about the DPS learning control as much as the tank balancing it.
I never understood the Prot hate, I get it that arms is technically an easier leveling experience but I never noticed that prot was drastically weaker than arms. Sure my kill times were slower but not dangerously so.
A Men brother!!! I been lving my warrior in prot just fine. Last stand, Concussion Blow, Improved Bloodrage and Improved Revenge are great talents for lving. Im a stun machine with 2 interrupts. I use a macro to switch from shield and dual wield during fights. They key is do quest that are lower then your lv. I can take 2 or 3 mobs at the same time. Prot is GREAT for lving in HC and will save your life. F to my fallen rage starve Arms warriors!!
@@frenziiii There's certainly a very nostalgic style to it. Also do you record at 720p? The video, especially text looks kinda blurry. That could either be low bit rate or upscaled resolution. Try to have at least 15-20 Mbits bitrate for 1080p video on youtube, 20-25Mbits for 60fps if you can.
I cant lie im a pretty good healer and on HC I still get a bit tilted if the tank pulls while im drinking.. even though I know it's the done thing.. I never mention it or complain of course but that little bit of mana I am unable to drink because the pull has been going a while could make or break whether someone lives in HC. I would much rather everyone fills up buffs up and we take time, than get the dungeon done 5 minutes faster at a slight risk of dying to say - a double pack pull or mobs fleeing into chain pulls which ooms me.. the moment im going oom im thinking "why couldnt he just wait for drink" Its funny because now im tanking I see people get impatient because I built this attitude as a healer. But in my mind its my group and I have the final say as Tank to wait until everyone is topped off.
Lots of good tips. Not swaping to a shield when your 5% is awful though. You didn’t even need more threat just taking extra damage for no reason. Wayyy to yolo for average player
UD Strat has ton of pats and body pull potential so I usually ranged pull all of that dungeon. Some dungeons like WC, RFK, SM Cath and more are more open so you can charge. Thanks for watching!

That’s honestly not a bad idea. Funny you said that, I DC’d and came back to my character dead. It’s been a reoccurring theme for people on the servers, so a little frustrated.
So, using a 2H for tanking is good but it’s not the safest. You are saying a lot of this advice under the guise of HC and it actually has nothing to do with HC. It’s a basic tanking guide, you’re just slapping HC on to it for views. Telling a player NOT to spec into defensive until 60 is a good way to have bad RNG because you have 0 mitigation talents and your DW getting parried and getting slapped because of parry haste by Eranikus. You have 3 basic macros when there at least 10. No CS into Shield+SW for dicey moments, no IS+Bandaging, no sequence macro, or mouseover macro for int/taunt. You’re building your warrior for improved damage when that’s not what a tank is for in HC. Clearly you’re under the impression it’s not much different than era, but it is. Take the HC out of your title, it’s clickbait and you know it.
It’s literally not any different at all. Tanks still play the same exact way in HC. 2H arms tanking in all of my groups. I’m sorry that you’re mad, but take it out on somebody else. “That’s not what a tank is in HC” last time I checked it’s still classic with no changes. Not everyone has to play prot because they feel “safe”. You need a macro for Shield Wall? How about equip your shield macro and press a hot key? It’s faster than pressing a macro if you’re good at it. Everything you are saying fits only you, and you’re mad that people play other ways than you. If you actually watch the video I say DW is an option to about SM/RFD. Then you need to start shielding in certain situations, but you didn’t watch the whole video because you were slamming your keyboard mad.
Because you don’t need to always tank with a shield. Many people 2H or Dual Wield tank especially at early levels. I have no points in protection either. Thanks for watching!
nice vid brotha. im a level 47 warr currently on HC. i have bonebiter and am arms for my whole leveling/tanking so far. Should i switch to fury and use vanq sword + 30dps axe or go 2h fury? Im still tanking dungeons daily but i see alot of tanks Dual Wielding Fury. Also do u have a talent tree if so? Thanks
Are you orc? Axe racial is huge if you’re planning to dual wield. You’re starting to hit that level where fury tree is actually beneficial. Talents like Enrage, Flurry, Dual Wield Spec are very useful for tanking. You’ll find once you hit ST that tanking arms is doable but such a nuisance. Also be looking for some hit % pieces. Rune of the guard captain from the Hinterland elite quests is a great start.

Hey I'm about to ding 60 on my warr, want to tank dungeons with the best survivability/threat talents. Should I go deep prot? Also, is it normal to tank 60 dungeons without tac mastery going fury/prot? Thanks man
If your gear isn’t good and you feel more comfortable with more survivability then go prot. But eventually once your gear is better, by all means go fury/prot. More rage/Threat/Damage. You will not need tactical mastery as a geared fury/prot.
Usually the standard is heavier in the main hand and quicker in the offhand. There’s also nothing wrong with dual wield dagger , especially if you have fury talents. Thanks for watching!
Everytime I’ve had a shaman healer I’ve gone below half health while they’re full mana. I’ve literally had to ask for heals. Never using a shaman healer again they are garbage

when tanks want to 2hand or dual weild through an entire dungeon as a tank WTF . your soposed be giving advice not trying to turn wariors into the new huntards. i ran a sm lib arm cath run and the tank never stoped wearing his 2 hander not even for the bosses i with my epic sheild and sword was spending the entire 3 dungeons waiting for it to fuck up and me have to tank with a four man grp.
